Do U Wish You Lived in a Different State?

The Northeast has gotten snow the last two Octobers. That has made the winters seem soooo long. Now, it's May here in the Northeast and it's going to be rainy and cold tomorrow and possibly on Sunday. It was nice outside the first week of May....We've had only one or two weeks of good weather since September. It's been cold here for the last 7 months !

I CAN'T, but, I wish I could move to one of the Carolinas. My friend in S. Carolina pays practically "nothing" in property taxes on her 3500 sq ft house. Plus, the weather is so much nicer. Oh well, I can go and visit her. But, I can't move.

What state would u move to? Or stay in?

What can I do next?

Yeah, Hawaii. Because it's May and snowed here two days ago and I wish it were warm out. But wait. It's May in Central Oregon and we have 4-5 months of paradise ahead of us. Warm days, cool nights, miles of hiking trails, the lakes, the mountains the rivers. Never mind. I'll stay here and wait til October to start complaining again.

I'm always in the state of confusion, so yeah, I wish I lived in a different state!! lol!

Seriously though, I wish I lived in California - somewhere that I would be able to see the ocean every day!!! I absolutely love San Francisco and Carmel - so somewhere in that area would be perfect!! But it's a dream that will never come true:(

I'll probably die in Ohio - but at least I've gotten to see a lot of other states while growing up, so I'm happy with that!

Great question!!

I would like to move to and stay in the state of Bliss.
As it is, I live in the state of Chaos.

Seriously though, socially, culturally, and meteorologically II'm happy here. There's ;lots to do, I love the fact that there's a festival of some sort or another almost year round, this is where my ancestors immigrated to (I'm Cajun - as in descended from Norman exiles), and there is little cold compared to states further north. I HATE HATE HATE cold, but I live for heat. July in south Louisiana is heaven for me.
As for hurricanes, everywhere you go, you will have bad weather of some sort or another - hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, earthquakes, flash floods, droughts, wildfires. It's just a matter of which natural phenomenon you're most willing to deal with.

I am happy in IL, I have lived all over the country at this point - except the east coast and would like to move all my people here so I do not have to travel so much to see them!

I like our weather, snow does not bother me unless it is really dangerous conditions - then I stay home and overall it is a nice place.

No, not at all. I've lived in three other states and I love it here. Illinois gets a bad rap for a lot of things, some of which are justified, but there are huge pluses for us and the things we like to do. We love Chicago and all it offers. We love going to the theater, museums, and great restaurants. We live in the suburbs, but I've told my husband if we ever come into any money, we are getting a condo downtown so we don't have to spend money on hotels! Don't get me wrong, we love doing outdoor things as well, but there are plenty of states we can travel to for outdoor activities.

I am a fifth generation Californian. My commute to work is 10 minutes down the coast highway and each morning I cross a summit and get a spectacular view of the Pacific. I can see the ocean from my office and we are surrounded by mountains and forests. I am never leaving. It isn't perfect, but it is my home.

Yes! I do wish I lived in a different state. The property taxes in Jersey are through the roof and I've been here my whole life. Seasonal affective disorder sucks as well.

Would love to live in Ca. Yes, it's more expensive but my family is there and they trump taxes any day.

But for now, I am here bc my hubby's job is here and so is his family.

I live in WA state. While it certainly does rain here a lot, I have grown to love most of it.
I love the summer here. It's gorgeous. It's never too hot. We reach about 90, sometimes, 4 days of the year. Usually it's about 75-85. I wish our summer was longer though!
I wish that I was back in southern CA for the ocean. I love love love the ocean. I love being able to get in the water and not freeze to death and I love to feel the sand on my feet. Here you can go in the ocean but your toes feel like they will fall off in a couple of minutes and the nasty green plants get all wrapped up in your feet. bleh.
Fall here is beautiful, there are so many trees! They all change color and it really is like a postcard.
THe cost of living is high. Wish that wasn't the case.
We don't get tornados, there are rarely earthquakes here, and while certain areas do get flooded from all the rain, it isn't too bad!
I would not move.

If I could, I would move to Washington state tomorrow. I live in VA now and even though I've met some great people (we moved here 2 years ago from CA) and there is a lot of stuff to do around here, I'm still just not loving it. I DO really like fall and this spring has been really nice and I LOVE winter and cold and snow. I'm really not looking forward to the hot and humid summer. I'm not looking forward to all the bugs. It's not as beautiful as I thought it would be here either. I also think I just need to be near the ocean. I grew up on the beach so it's a lot different here in the DC area. It's a whole different world here. My best friend lives in northern Washington near Bellingham and I've been to visit her a few times and it's just so amazingly beautiful there with the San Juan Islands and the people just seem so friendly. I always tell my husband that someday we will live there. It might not be until we retire, but someday, we will live there.
We won't be leaving VA anytime soon. We are hoping to buy our first home towards the end of next year. I am getting happier and getting used to the area more and more though.

I like certain things about Texas. It's cheap. You can give A LOT of house for very little. Taxes are low, unemployment is low. We have a great economy, great growth. The immigration problem is huge, though. The months of 100-105 + degrees, where the lows don't dip below 85, can be soul crushing. However, there is nothing like that first day it feels like fall. It's like heaven after the hell like summer. Tornado season can be particularly scary. Especially, after we got some bad weather days after the tornado in Oklahoma. Everything shuts down when it snows (or ices, more accurately) so I don't have to worry about being outside in the bitter cold.

I would leave Texas, if I had been somewhere that felt like home. I don't like many things about living here, but nowhere else has felt like home...yet.

I hear you about the weather. I hate a ton of snow!!

What you have to take into account is salary. Salaries up north tend to be higher because cost of living is higher. If you take a lower salary in SC, you might not be any better off financially, so you have to crunch the numbers.

It is VERY hot in the summer in SC. That's something you have to keep in mind, :)!

I miss Chicago and my family, but having been away so long, I don't think I could do those winters anymore. ETA: I also really miss Louisville, where I lived for many years, and all of the dear friends who still live there.

I LOVE where I live now---Henderson, NV (numerous reasons specified in a recent answer to another poster considering a move LV).

We never get snowed in, rained out (okay, very, very rarely!), have no hurricanes, tornados, etc., no state taxes, more family activities than we can do in any given weekend, and most of what I do on a daily basis happens within a 3 mile radius. Makes life wonderful.

Our weather in the summer can be pretty awful, but that's where air conditioning, swimming pools, and getaways to San Diego come in handy!

I love living in Canada. In Manitoba it gets very cold, and there is a lot of snow, but these are really minor inconveniences compared to earthquakes, hurricanes, flash flooding, tornadoes etc. experienced elsewhere. Also, we don't get all those poisonous spiders and snakes that live in the warmer climates. We pay high taxes, but it is worth it. I would never give up things like health care or one year paid maternity leave we get here. I make the best of the weather, spending as much time outdoors as possible during the summer and dressing appropriately for the weather for the other seasons so I am able to enjoy them as well.

I would move to Florida in a heartbeat. I hate Illinois. Hate the snow, how it's cold pretty much over half the year, I hate cleaning off the car, and driving in the snow and having to put on 12 layers just to go get the mail. And what's the saying? Chicago has 2 seasons- winter and construction. Plus the taxes here suck and it is the land of corrupt politicians.
The only thing holding me here is my husband. He loves Chicago and the cold and doesn't want to move. Plus his family is here and they are really close. Mine's here to but they cause a lot of misery and pain for me. Which is another reason I'd love to put some distance between them and I.

My heart has always belonged to Minnesota, although I've been living in IL for the past 12 years. This winter, however, has made me feel lucky to NOT be in MN with the new season "Sprinter." Days that my parents were getting 10 inches of snow, we were already outside BBQing.

What I REALLY miss about MN are the lakes. Lake Michigan is a poor substitute for the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota. Here in IL they call water retention ponds "lakes" when they are marketing properties, and price them accordingly. NOT COOL.

I abhor where I live. I am a transplant and have been here about 10 years and I'm still not acclimated to the way of life nor weather for that matter. If I had my dream I would move to So Cali. It's where I'm from and despite all the negativity there is regarding taxes and the like my family is there. But, husband's job keeps us planted right where we are so all I can do is make the best of it.

Fuzzy, too funny! May I join you in the state of bliss? Until then, I'm enjoying my life in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I love all the seasons (well, perhaps not the humidity in summer) and am not too far from the ocean (heaven) and Boston (museums and concerts). I love my neighbors and my town. We try to be supportive and accepting of one another. As for the weather, it's 49 degrees and raining, but we need that rain to fuel our lovely spring growth. Now a little sunshine wouldn't hurt either.

I've been here in Milwaukee WI for 15 years and it still does not feel like home. I just can't bring myself to love it. I look at all the positives but only tend to focus on the negatives. Does not help that my mom lives on the gulf side of FL and my sister in the Bay area of CA. I always have to hear about their great weather.

I love the south and love the ocean so I think my ideal would be the Carolinas or Georgia. Ca is to overcrowded. Maybe I should move to the Caymen Islands.

I couldn't live anywhere it gets really hot. I'd rather deal with snowstorms than that. I have to live near a large body of water, I hate the feeling of being landlocked. Our winters here are getting milder and milder. We have long autumns and longer springs. The only place I would move to is a more rural area, but I love PA. "Penn's Woods" indeed!
But I HATE OUR CURRENT GOVERNOR. Although I do like living in a blue state. I couldn't live in the south for many reasons, not the least of which are the christian-conservative leanings down there. *shiver* No one here cares what I believe or where or if I go to church. No one is trying to convert my children. (You know why there taxes are so low? Because we who live in the blue states supplement their low taxes with our federal tax money, they pay the least and take the most federal tax money. No way do I want to live in a "taker state".)

there are many things about maryland that i do not love. it's a tax nightmare, it's insanely buggy in summer, and the winters are too cold for me (i don't know how northerners survive.) i visit utah once a year and love love love it. but much as i love the huge sky and soaring red rocks, i suspect that if i left the verdant lush green i'd miss it.
and our home on our little farm is pretty close to paradise.
i grew up in bermuda. that's pretty hard to beat.
if we grow old and die here, i'm fine with that. but i'd also be open to moving somewhere else, if it met my requirements of beauty, privacy and affordability.
i've had friends tell me too that the carolinas are where i should be. i'll have to check 'em out one of these days.

I live in Wisconsin and we do have 4 seasons, they are Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter and Detour. However Almost Winter and Still Winter CRASHED into Detour for 2012 & 2013. We actually had FROST warnings last night ---FROST IN MAY. I joked on facebook last night I wanted to put my house on a truck and and move it to a warmer area. A few friends said they wanted to come along. I thought the sight of my house, 3 of my friends, myself, 2 dogs and 3 cats rolling down the road on the back of a flatbed just might make international news.

Would I move? In a heartbeat, my dream house is somewhere on the beach in sunny Southern California, probably in Orange or LA county. Now I need the income to make it happen. And convince my kids they want to move too.

I feel your pain though because I lived in Los Angeles for six years and I hate hot sunny weather!!!! The seasons never changed....I almost lost my sanity. I begged, borrowed, and saved and saved to get the hell out of there. My first day in NY I walked across central Park in the snow and practically kissed the ground.

And outside of NYC? France or anywhere in Europe.
