Doctor Recommendations in the West Valley: GYN, Internist

Hi Moms,
I spend so much time taking care of the kids, husband, home, and work, that I forgot to take care of myself! I recently woke up to the fact that I am in peri-menopause and need an annual exam, mammogram, the works. Can anyone recommend a GYN and an Internist in the West Valley(preferably women docs)? I would prefer the Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Encino, West Hills areas. I really need commpassionate, understanding docs who will listen. Also I have been reading a lot online about natural hormone remedies, so I would like to go that route. Huge factor is that I am self-employed and do not have medical insurance, so physicians who accept payment plans or who give cash rates would be ideal.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi P., my Dr. is great, he is a male but he works with a female Dr. too, you can request to be seen by her. Her name is Dr. Felicia Ota and the male Dr. is Dr. Entin. They are in the Encino Tarzana Medical Center Building and the phone number is ###-###-#### I'm not sure if they accept cash payments but you can call to find out.

Good luck,
P.

Hi P.,
I have two amazing women who delivered my last child and have been my ob/gyn's for seven years. They are both moms and younger than you and I, but very bright and extremely compassionate.
They are Lauren Hyman (I know, it's a crack up!) and Imelda Tio. They are in West Hills.Their number is ###-###-####.
Please call them! You will love them:)
Good Luck and take a deep breath.

Hi P..
I have just read the responses and felt compelled to answer as well. Dr. Entin and Dr. Ota have delivered both my kids and I have been going to them for years. They are great, HOWEVER - you have to wait forever!!! Since I am not planning to have any more kids and my schedule is busy, I get extremely frustrated at the LONG wait I ALWAYS have whenever I am there for an appointment. Unlike when I first started going to them, the office is now so busy, that I do feel rushed by them. I am actually going to look for a new GYN (and probably one that isn't so focused on the OB part). If you have luck - I would love to know!
All the best! PS - Since you are tired a lot, you may want to have your thyroid checked.

P.-
I only know a Dr. Tina Koopersmith in Sherman Oaks- she is AWESOME but don't know if she's an internist. I highly recommend (though not a woman) Dr. Frederick Kohn in Encino. He is my obgyn and he is just a really great person who always makes me feel very safe and comfortable. I don't feel like he's shoveling me in and out- he cares. I would call ANY doctor's office in advance and ask what the cash rates are if that's what you're choosing to do. Good luck!

Hi P.;
We have a huge family here with 3 girls and 1 son - kinda a Brady Bunch situation to boot! Anyways between the children and their medical problems as well as my own person medical problems that I have had since I was a pre-teen, my medical expenses alone were expense and could of broken us! Let alone those of 4 growing kids! (All which are grown but the youngest and she has severe medical problems of her own as well!). I was looking for doctors that not just the kids felt comfortable with but so did I and yet the costs were as minimal as possible!! Growing up thru my father's work we had Blue Cross/Blue Sheild - no thank you. Nothing personal against them I just found them more costly compared to the care I received. We as a family go to Kaiser Permente-Woodland Hills. They have offices and pharmacies all over and if you are not satisfied they make sure you are. They have male and female doctors in each field and they send out surveys regarding your appointments and the staff and the doctor who treated you. They are generally on top of things and care about your opinions there. My older 3 were all 3 sorry to outgrow their Pediatrician, esp since he would explain things where even they could understand it. They gynocology dept is great, my youngest is only 16 so she can be seen by one of the female Peds dr's there or go up to the Teen Dr.'s or to the Gyno area, and their pharmacy is open 24/7 in one area and yet on every floor they have another pharmacy so the lines aren't long, as well as other pharmacies thruout the area that are Kaiser Pharmacies.. and their prices are so much LESS expensive!! You try raising a family of 8 kids, ( at one point I also was raising my 2 neices as well) and they too needed to see doctors!
And yes, if you don't have the money for your appt that day, they will bill you. Especially if you know you know you are going to need the $ you do have on you for a prescription. Just ask your doctors receptionist to have them bill you plz, and they will - no problem .. I have - no problem! They used to have a bad rap I know, but I promise ..not any more or trust me as a former surgical nurse I wouldnt be taking my children, husband, neices, or better yet myself there! Good luck! They are at DeSoto Blvd and the 101 - Just north of the 101 on the left side. Also, as far as their Breast Center goes its top notch! And God forbid they do find something ask for the surgeon ..I don't know if I can say her name here ..but Dr. Janice Shilling .... she works both there and in the surgical area..and Mary does the counsoling - Janice's nurse's name is Lisa, tell them Karen sent you okay? They know me well there. They are very gentle and caring people, and will help you all the way! I know they did me. Even when mine reoccured as it runs in my family. If it wasent for them I don't know what I would of done spiritually!
