I'm concerned. I believe I will make 15,000 more for tax purposes this year because we haven't invested as much money into my business this year as we did last year. And yet, last year we owed 100 for federal and pretty much broke even for the state or owed 500 or so, I forget exactly. But it wasn't pretty.
So I used the H&R block estimated tax calculator and it says we will only owe 500 or so. Either that calculator is way wrong, or my preparer was way wrong last year. I know the tax amounts and deductions haven't changed all that much.
Any ideas?

We buy the on-line version of Intuit's Turbo Tax every year. It walks you through evey step, offers suggestions, scans your return for possibly red flags that could cause an audit. We always include the state return, as well. Turbo Tax comes with Its Deductible, which I log into throughout the year. It tracks all deductible donations, such as clothing to Goodwill, books to the local library, etc. Their on-line and phone support are the best we've seen. Good luck to you.

I hope I don't offend anyone but with H & R Block they are overpriced and you risk getting an underexperienced preparer. There's an exception to a few people that are more seasoned.
Since you have a business I would seek a CPA, someone who has had more extensive training and testing. Sorry I don't have any recommendations.
I would also have them look at last years paperwork

I'm not sure where your located at. But we use a guy in Oak Grove called Taxes by Me Tim Reynolds. He's really good; we use to go to H&R block and never hardly got anything back and had to pay a fortune. Now we actually get money back and he's actually cheaper. He knows all the little details and does a wonderful job.
