Does Your Hubby Know How Much You Weigh?

My husband and I have been trying to get in better shape. We work out together a couple times a week, and in between time we try to stay active by gardening, doing housework, etc. I am by no means thin, I'm a medium build, curvy, with oversized girls :) I think I carry my weight pretty well, but I NEVER tell anyone my actual poundage unless I have no choice and I'm forced on the scales at the doctor's office. Anyway, tonight we were talking about our weight loss goals, and he has no problem with his weight or telling people. So I came out with it and told him how much I weigh. He said he never would have guessed that number, and he thinks I look amazing and sexy, etc, and he was very sweet and supportive. BUT, as wonderful as my husband is, I still feel like I shouldn't have told him! It's like I told a big deep secret that I've been hiding for years! Is that my insecurity and I'm just being trivial? Do you share your weight with your hubby? I'd love to know what you all think!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your thoughts! I feel happy I’m not alone, and also encouraged that there are so many confident women on here. I agree that knowing each other’s weights could be a good motivator, and I’ll try to see it as such. I do believe my husband loves me just as I am, and it has definitely been a point of my own insecurity. Maybe “secret” was a bad word to use, because we have no secrets per se, it was just the closest word I could think of at the time. But, after reading your responses, I feel much better about it, and myself. Plus, if he didn’t like it, it’s too darn late, cuz he married me and that’s that! You guys rock. Thanks for your input :)

My hubs and I have been trying to get in shape together also! That's awesome, keep up the good work. He knows how much I weigh, and vice versa. I carried and gave birth to his children though, so information like that is just a minor detail. If he were to ever give me any grief, I think I'd have to punch him.
Good luck on healthier living!

When I was military, we used to have to say our weight out loud, in front of others, all the time. I got pretty immune to it BUT what I *didn't* get immune to were men's reactions. HeHeHe.

If asked to guess, I'd be told 115, or buck and a quarter. EVEN if they were holding me at the time (as part of the bet). I was very tall and very thin. 167. It used to crack. me. up. that men really do have no idea how much women weigh.

FF many years to my doubling (yes, doubling) my weight when I was pregnant. The "guess" people would say is around 200-225. I was over 350 at the birth and 310 the day after (10lb baby +23lb placenta plus apparently 7lbs of water).

Today, I'm about 50lbs overweight. When people guess, they guess about 175. (Which is what's on my License and what's going to STAY on my license). And they're about 50 pounds off.

People, men in particular, are absolutely clueless about weight. You could say that these people were being nice... but I doubt it since there was almost alway $ on the table (serious $, which is why I'd actually be picked up in some cases to "judge" before I stepped on the scale), and the people guessing now are my boundary-free family.

What was LIBERATING about telling people my actual weight was both their shock and the complete and total "shame lift". What's annoying is their shock. No. I didn't just magically get heavier between one sentence and the next.

To my way of thinking, weight is like age. It used to be that NO woman was ever asked her age, nor would she ever tell. Now, women are completely and totally open about their age, and to my way of thinking... it's to the betterment of ourselves.

He knows your real weight. That means you can step off the scale and clap and cheer and say XXX and have him clap and cheer with you.

Victories come in all kinds. And I think that part of YOUR victory is having your husband be happy about the truth, and not a mathmatical lie. Besides, cat's outta the bag, hon. Make it work for you.

i just asked my fiance... he doesn't know how much i weigh. i'm not above telling him. he knows i weigh more than him (and am more than a foot shorter than him). I have told him my goal weight. But he thinks i'm amazing how i am, and only encourages me to loose weight for my health. but i'm sure he could guess within 20 lbs.

I think you're feeling that way because of your insecurity. your hubby will think no less of you knowing what you really weigh. it won't change how you look, or respond to him. just know that he loves your body if you weigh 100 lbs or 250. he is your husband. he loves you for more than just your body. you are blessed to have a hubby like him.

good luck on the getting into shape! i'm currently working on the same thing! go get 'em tiger.

Absolutely, in fact I keep my weight and measurements posted on the refridgerator. Why? I'm keeping track of my weight loss. I'm 5'6 and after giving birth to our 2nd baby in January 2009 I weighed a whooping 289 ugh! Now, i'm down to 161 with only a few more pounds to go to return to my prepregnancy weight of 145. whooo-hooo!! My husband admires my spirit of losing this weight due to i've had to over come hip therapy due to i pushed her out on the first try; they gave me nerve damage on my left side from the epidural; so i've been under going not only regaining strength, physical therapy, but working out. It's worth it. Yes, i know my husband's weight too; he's working on it and says i'm his motivation....gosh I sure love my man.

I have no problem sharing mine with my husband. I am 198 at 9 months pregnant. :) (Not happy about that number and this is the most I've gained while pregnant, but whatever. He was sitting with me in triage when they asked.)

My husband doesn't really register numbers either way. I was close to 150 pounds and wearing size 4/6 and he was upset that I still wanted to lose a little weight before I got pregnant again. When I pointed out that according the weight charts I could be less than 120 pounds at 5'6" and be "healthy" he got upset and said I should never been within 20 pounds of my best friend (who is not even 5 feet tall). I think most guys don't have any idea what weight "looks like" and they are usually surprised by what our actual weight is. It also depends on your scale. I had a scale with a dial for years and it always registered the same differences as my doctor's scale, but the actual number was about 10 pounds lower. It finally broke and I bought a digital and had an overnight 10 pound weight gain, so I'm learning to consider my weight only one indicator of health.

It sounds like you are insecure about the number, which is fine, but I honestly don't think guys care that much--they are much more interested in how we look and feel. I also know more men who like curves or "meat" than women who are too thin, so that is always reassuring. :)

When i was pregnant and my husband would come to OB appointments with me, I would make him turn around before they weighed me. Now that i'm actively trying to LOSE the baby weight (after having 2 kids in 2 years) I do tell him and I tell him every sunday what my weight is. He never asks and I doubt he even cares but I feel like it makes me more accountable in my weight loss goals when I tell him honestly how much i weigh. It really is a self-confidence issue, and I am terribly insecure about my body and weight. Hearing my sexy husband say "good job, babe!" or "daaaammmn girl your lookin' good!" just makes me that much more motivated. Your hubby sounds so dreadfully sweet and wonderful and i'm sure he could care less about the number on the scale. Keep up the good work and enjoy those sexy curves of yours! he delivered our baby, and kept me from bleeding to death on the bathroom floor, if he wants to know how much i weight, i got no problem with that. anyone else wants to know, i tell them, not going to happen
ok, lets look at it this way, if you were a man, do you think people would be concerned about your weight ? no, didnt think so. if someone asks you how much do you weight, ask them a extremely personal question in return, like, do you spit or swallow ?? and while they are standing there looking stunned, you say, well? you wanted to know how much i weight, i and want to know do you spit or swallow, wheres the problem, you dont like being asked personal questions??
so, your husband knows your actual weight, so what.as long as he didnt put the information on cnn, i wouldnt worry about it

of course he does. I have no problem telling people how much I weigh. I am 153pds. and no one believes me, most people guess around 130, and when i weighed 140 before my son most people guess my weight to be about 110. I am 5ft2 and have small bones so i look smaller. I knew a girl who was my height and 150 pds and was so tiny she had to do all her shopping in the kids department. my hubby knows how much I weigh because he weighs 3 pds less then I do and I tease him about that

Yes, and every time he hears it he says "really??" Though he also tells me I'm in better shape now than when we met. I weighed about 15 lbs less when we met..I also didn't exercise that much back then. Now I've had 2 kids and work out 5 mornings a week..I guess being older and having had 2 kids does certain things to a body, weight included. Anyway I can wear the same clothes now that I did then, so maybe some of it is muscle. My arms are more toned and smaller than back then, but the shape of my hips has changed (probably forever) and I'm still working on that little area of flab over muscle on my tummy that is more stubborn than any 2 year-old I've ever met. :)

We both talk about our weight and share openly about our weight loss goals. We have both struggled with our weight and have been working on it together for quite some time. We are still both overweight but trying to get healthy. I am currently pregnant with #3 and he knows my weight and that I can't try to lose any. The hardest thing is that he is losing and is almost down to where I am. I keep telling myself it is okay since I am pregnant and I will lose the weight once the baby comes. He is super supportive and doesn't make me feel badly about it at all. I think it is good to have everything out in the open.

Yes. I am pregnant with my second child, and I've struggled with hyperemesis (losing over 20 lbs in the first and second trimester). I was approaching "underweight" status for a few months, and I weighed in front of my husband every morning so he could help me keep track of my weight loss. I am slowly gaining some weight back, but my husband is still kept up-to-date on my current weight. When not pregnant, he also knows my weight. I've never struggled with my weight, so to me, the number on the scale is an arbitrary number. It doesn't bother me if he knows how much I weigh. As long as I'm in good health, that's all that matters.

Some of my mom friends have a message board where we report to each other our successes, frustrations, etc with losing weight/getting in shape and we encourage each other. Sunday mornings we "report" our week and share our weight, if we choose. Its awesome! One of my friends has lost 96 lbs in the past 12 months!

Weight is nothing more than a number and part of a whole pictures. My husband knows and I don't care if I tell anyone else either.
Muscle weights more than fat. You could have a higher weight but be more muscle. Your weight also changes depending on where you are in your monthly cycle, what you've had to eat, what you're wearing, whether you've recently gone to the bathroom or not.
In my house we can move the scale literally inches in any given direction on the floor and literally have our weight change up to 5 lbs! I mean, step on the scale, kick it an inch one way, step on, get another number than the one before, kick it again and get yet a third number.
It doesn't really matter that much to me who knows what I weight.
edit: I'm about 5'9" and fluctuate between 154 and 159. I'm also on the bigger boned side of things.

No, my husband doesn't know. The lady at the driver's license counter had a fun time conspiring with me to keep it a secret.

I'm fairly tall (5'9") and am built "strong." I am NOT petite. And with fairly wide shoulders, big hands, and big feet, each inch of me weighs more than an inch of a lot of people, even if our BMI were the same.

DH, on the other hand, is 6'3" but has only just now, after almost 9 years of marriage, started to have his BMI not read underweight. He's a bean pole. I can't find pants his size because his waist is the same as his inseam.

When we got married, I could wear his shorts (his pants go over my feet and well past my toes) and we weighed the same. So I didn't feel comfortable telling him my weight.

And I'm glad I didn't, because 3 kids later, I outweigh him by 10 lbs and he isn't exactly a tactful person. He'd rub it in.

I think that if you can trust your husband with that number, that's amazing. I wish I had such trust in my husband.

I don't actually know how much I weigh, so I could only tell him a ballpark. I always told him how much weight I gained during the pregnancy. I assume I lost everything I gained, because I look the same, but I'm not sure. So, yes I would tell him..if I knew. If he thinks I look good, I don't see hwy it matters. I think it's probably your insecurity, and what's done is done! I seriously doubt your actual weight number has colored the way your husband sees you! Well, I don't know my exact weight as I don't own a scale. I am overweight (by approx 30 pounds). My husband does not know my weight. It is not a secret that I'm hiding. Weight is just not a topic that typically comes up in polite conversation, or something that one makes an announcement about. Obviously he knows I'm not the weight I was when we married, however, we are married 20 years and just don't have a need to share every last detail, we are way past that getting to know you and full disclosure stage. I'm not saying it's a terrible thing for you to know each others' exact weights, I"m just saying I don't find it necessary.
