Donating Hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Campaign - Need a Salon!!!

I have been growing my hair out for some time now. I lost a cousin to skin cancer in November of 2007. I felt the need to do something and I decided since I had been blessed with good hair, I'd donate it to someone who had lost theirs. I am needing a good salon/hairdresser that has experience in hair donation and then styling my hair after the cut! I've had two babies in the last 3 years and I'm in desperate need of a new hair-do! The guy that did my hair all through college left the salon he worked at and I don't know where he went! Please help! I live in Hurst, but I'm willing to drive anywhere but Dallas:) Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just got my hair cut Saturday! I went to Penny at the Yellow Brick Salon in Hurst. She ended up cutting 9 inches off my hair! It's in a cute bob (shorter than ever) and I love it! She not only spent over 2 hours with me, but also gave me free product to try and even gave my mom an entire bottle of hairspray for FREE! She was wonderful and I'm thrilled I was able to do this! I hope it will give someone struggling new-found hope, strength, encouragement, and confidence! Thanks for all of your responses. God bless!

posting because I'd also like to see these answers. I've been growing my hair out with the idea of donating to Locks of Love (or another organization), but haven't researched any of them.
Thanks!

I went to Avalon Aveda Salon in Snider Plaza and donated my hair to Locks of Love. They gave it to me in a bag with the paperwork and I had to mail it in myself. I didn't really need a hair-do, just cut it straight, my hair was super long and I wanted to keep it that way. Anyway, they have great hairdressers from the most expensive, most experienced to the new-bes. Good luck! I'll never forget the feeling when I got a card from Locks of Love letting me know I had helped a little one! =)

I'm in the Maypearl area and love the stylist I go to. If you are nearby, drop me a line and I can give you the info.

Any salon, though should be comfortable enough with preparing hair for donation. You should take in the rules from the donation site though, just in case. I have heard the hair had to be 13 inches from one person to only 10 inches for yet another person.

I did this about 4 years ago as well and my hair was accepted. More importantly, I donated my hair the day after my older sister's birthday..she died of leukemia at just 18 months old. My dad actually teared up when he heard that I had donated to Locks of Love and that is when I realized the significance of my donation.

It's great that we have this opportunity available now and I encourage everyone who can to do this.

I know that if you go to ANY salon they can cut it IN a pony tail (at least 10 inches of healthy hair). You can take it to the American Cancer Society located off I 30 near 8th and Summit in Forth Worth. I am a cancer survivor MYSELF and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your selfless gift! Some will really appreciate your generosity!

Hi C. P, I am C. M and I am a stylist in Justin, TX and I would love to help out! My Mom died of Lung Cancer last August and I have been a huge ACS supporter since 1997 through Relay for Life and locks of Love events! My cuts are normally $25 and that includes the shampoo and a blow dry finish. However, when I have a donation situation, 12 yrs old and younger are free, but my adult donors pay the $25 donation and I forward the money to ACS(American Cacner Society)with the hair donation.
The Saolon website is www.the4thstreetsalon.com and there you will also find contact info as well as directions to the salon. I typically take care of my own bookings as we are all independent stylists. To book with me directly, my cell number is ###-###-####.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you. Way to get proactive! I am so proud of people like you who care so much and can't stand to let cancer take one more life or another strand of hair! You go girl!

There is a salon here in McKinney called Rene's Langniappe Hair Design. The address is 4610 W. Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney 75070. Phone ###-###-####. I'm not sure if she donates to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Campaign, but I know she is involved with hair donations to the American Cancer Society somehow. She might be able to point you to a salon closer to Hurst who does the same thing if you don't want to drive all the way over to McKinney. She does great cuts/styles, too!

My daughter donated to Locks of Love a couple of years ago, and she used my stylist. We actually mailed the hair ourselves; Carla cut it in the proper manner and banded it for us. I have been going to Carla for a few years now, and am VERY satisfied with her. When you figure that, since I have short hair, I go every 5-6 weeks, that's a lot of time to be satisfied or dissatisfied!

most salons will donate the hair. my sister had it done at great clips and got a free haircut because of it. Most of them give free haircuts if you are donating and they send it in as well. Good luck and that is wonderful what you are doing. my 7 year old wants to grow hers out and do the same.

You don't have to use a certain salon--my 10 year old donated over Christmas. I took her to a Pro Cuts near our home they followed the directions for hair donation I got from the Pantene web site and then we mailed the bagged hair as directed. Several weeks later we recieved a thank you from Pantene. I did take a ruler with us to the hair salon and several rubber bands and the zip lock bag.

I hope this helps.

I don't know about the Pantene's campaign but I do now where you can donate to Locks of Love. She is in Crowley and I feel is well worth the drive. C. I would recommend my stylist and salon if you are not opposed to driving to Dallas. His name is Jason and he's at the Avalon Spa in Victory Center downtown. It's actually easy to get to and easy to park. That salon feels very strongly about donating hair and donates to an organization that does not charge the recipient of the hair--some organizations (believe it or not) receive the hair and turn around and charge the recipient for the wig made. I recommend giving him a call!

There is a salon in North Hurst off Grapevine Highway between Precinct and Norwood called "We love haircuts". I was there this past weekend to get my hair done for a wedding, and noticed a sticker on their window that talked about donating hair. Try to give them a call and see if they have the experience you need. Good luck and kudos to you for doing this!
