Hi Moms, I am expecting a baby in November and my first born will be two and half. I have the snug ride infant carseat for the car and I have a question about what double stroller we should purchase. Would you recomend that I get the Graco double stroller that accomodates the carseat (although I would really like a stroller with single wheels) or should I get something else like the BOB? If you were in my same sitation what did you purchase and what worked best for you? What stroller do you recommend for a newborn and toddler? Thank you so much in advance for your help.

My sister has her first two children almost two years apart. She suggested a tandum stoller with the older child in from to keep stimulated from everything going by the front of the stoller. She said it fits in doors and between aisles in stores better as well.

hi L.- congrats on the new baby!
we have the BOB - there is a converter bar that adapts the infant car seat (my friend used this - it also provides a cup holder area for the toddler) - I did not get this and began using it with my newborn after a few months -
in the early weeks/months i wore the baby and had my 3 year old son in the stroller or walking...or used the snap n go for the carseat
i love the BOB of all the strollers i have had (Chariot/Maclaren/In Step/Snap and Go) it is great.
good luck and have fun!

I purchased the urban mountain buggy with the graco attachment. It is a very heavy stroller but is all terrain and great for walking to beach, playground etc. For another option is the Joovy Caboose for less all terrain.

Hi L.-
My only advice is to look at what your needs and wants are in your double stroller. If you are looking for something for everyday, the Graco is great; but if you are into running/walking outside (alot)the BOB is wonderful. I would go to a place like Babies R Us and try them out. Test the way they move around stores, fold and how your 2 and half fits. I got a BOB and I love it. The only down fall I found in my BOB (double wide) stroller is there are some places a double wide just is hard to get through (ie the lines at airports, department stores...)

Happy shopping!!

Hi L.!
I was in your same situation (Infant now 5 months and toddler 23 months) and I looked around a lot! I loved the Bob and Teds I think its called with the lay down for infant and sit up for toddler but it was pretty pricey and not that accomadating for once they grew up...so I stuck with the Graco Duoglider! It fits the car seat-I have the same one-and is still pretty easy to function. And it really isnt that much bigger-when folded-then the single Graco! I have a Van and the trunks in vans are tiny and it still fits laying flat! If you have any other questions about it let me know-Good luck!!

We bought a baby trend sit and stand. The back has a seat that can accommodate a car seat, hold a sitting/sleeping child, or the seat comes out to use the sit and stand bench option. There are a couple models, we bought ours at Target for our 16 month old and 6 week old. It works well. There is a big storage area under the seats. We do have the baby trend travel system, but the graco should fit fine.

Hi L.,
Our daughter had just turned two when our son was born last fall and we bought the double bob revolution witht the adapter bar (for the infant seat). We love the bob but I really think it is a personal choice and depends on what and how you are going to use the stroller for. THe bob is very smooth, easy to push, great for running, and comfortable for the kids BUT... it is also much more expensive than a double graco, very wide, and big to store in your car. If you are going to keep the stroller at home and use it for walks from your house it is a great choice, if you want to keep it in your car and use it at lets say the mall I would not reccommend it. I know many people that have bought both because they use them very differently. If you do buy the graco double you can usually find tons of them in great shape on craigslist for much less than retail.
Good luck!

Hi L.,
I have a just turned 3 year old and a almost 5 month old and i just got the BOB duallie, which I suggest stalking craigslist for one bc I only paid 350 for it! I love it! It is big for just going to the mall with so in that case you might just want to use the snapngo or other single stroller and have the older one walk, depends though. I mean are you one that goes to the mall alot? I'm not. It will be winter when you have the baby and with me I didn't go to alot of public places when she was born... we just started going more places the last 2-3 months. The bob can be purchased with the carseat attachement so you can use it if you want but I didn't get it, and like I said I just got it so she was just 4 months.
I tried a sit and stand and only liked it for the mall and since I don't go very often I gave it away. It was horrible to push around town.
So that's my thoughts, hopefully it helps!! Good luck!

i agree with your last post. it depends with what you are using if for. but don't get a sit and stand yet. my 3 1/2 year old will still lounge and fall asleep if walked long enough. if you go to a amusement park your gonna want something for the older one to zonk in as well. i just bought a double jogger to go over any terrain(i don't jog) i love it! i feel like i am pushing nothing. my double graco sucks for all terrain but is great for the mall. so although i have a few strollers, i use them depending on where i am going. good luck!!

I would definitley suggest BOB, my friend has one and it's fantastic! It converts from side by side carrier accomodations to toddler seating side by side for when they're older. It's a bit hefty to tote around, but it gets the job done. You could try phil and teds as well. Congratulations on the twins, i hope everything goes well!

We LOVED our Sit 'n Stand stroller. You can get one to accommodate an infant seat and the back seat was great for our toddler. Good luck with number two! Have fun with them!

Like another mom stated below: it really depends on how you use it. The sales people at Tiny Totland in Manchester helped me (9 years ago now-time flies) when I came to choose a stroller. Since we live near a dirt road that I walk a lot, the InStep double jogger is what I needed to go over the rough surface. For the mall I bought a lightweight side-by-side Graco that was great. I kept the Graco in my trunk and the InStep in the garage. I did not bother with a baby carrier but simply strapped my infant into the seat. They sell padded seat inserts that I used to make the seat softer. The advantage of a side-by-side is that both seats fully recline and my oldest was still napping during long afternoon walks. In a front-to-back only the rear fully reclines and the length makes it difficult to maneuver. The width of both side-by-sides (Graco and InStep) was small enough to fit through any door in all the years I used them. Plus the side-by-side has a huge basket underneath. Congratulations and enjoy these years- they go so fast.

my kids are 23 mos apart. and i didn't want to spend a fortune on a stroller b/c i didn't know how i'd use it..... luckily my girlfriend has 5 yr old twins and still had her duoglider.... so i borrowed that at first.

i liked the duoglider b/c the carrier can go in the back seat (where as the sit n stand it has to go in the front seat). but the duoglider is very heavy and my active two year old liked to get in and out... so then we went for the Sit N Stand Plus.

the Sit N Stand Plus - has a full second seat. most of the time i don't have the second seat on and my daughter is on the bench and my 10mo old is in the front. when we go out for long day trips (carnival, march of dimes walk etc...) i put on the full second seat. and move my 10 month old to the back b/c he'll be in the seat all the time, an and my 2.9 daughter goes in the front where she can get in and out.

my husband laughs at me b/c we have 2 kids and 4 strollers.... i have the garage space so it works... but you just never know what you'll need. i have the graco 1. metrolite that came with the carrier - use when we're at functions where i may need to lay my son down for a nap, at the park where my daughter is going to be running around anyways, and doesn't need a place to ride
2. the sit n stand plus - use for the mall
3. side by side jogger - borrowed, and only use for walks around the neighborhood
4. Chicco C5 stroller - folds nice and small like and umbrella stroller, but still has a basket, and shade

b/c i never know what i nead.... i'd definatley scour craigslist for things...

I bought the sit and stand when I had my daughter in January and my son had just turned 3. I almost never used it. When th baby is first born you probably won't be going out a whole lot-not just because you have a newborn, but because it's cold.
I almost never went to the mall because packing up 2 kids in the cold weather is nt my thing. Let me add that I used to always go to the mall with my son. My other friends were always out with one child, but that second child changed things. My son also around the time of 2.5 started to hate being in the stroller.
We had an umbrella stroller that we used for him if my husband came along and used the other stroller that held the car seat for her.
If you really have your heart set on a double stroller I'ld see if you could borrow one or get a used that way if you're like me it won't be a waste of money.
Good luck in your decision and congrats on the second baby.

At 2.5 she's probably going to want to do more walking then riding so you should opt for something like a sit and stand or one of those boards that attach to strollers.
Edited: keep in mind that most of these strollers only hold a max of 40lbs a child which depending on the size of your 2.5 year old they could be cutting it close to that I know my oldest weighed almost 40 at that age while my youngest is a peanut the maclaren strollers have the highest weight limit that I've seen 55lbs a child and both sides recline so are safe for newborn with the 5 point buckle unlike most w/ a 3 point buckle.

hi L., I have a 2 yr. old and a 3 1/3 mo. old and we purchased a double BOB and LOVE it!!! It is so well built and just as nice to push as the single! We went back and forth on what to buy, and in the end realized that I use the stroller mostly for walks around the neighborhood- and I used my BOB single more than any of the other strollers we have. When I go to the store I often have my 2 year old walking by my side or in a grocery cart, so I don't take a stroller to the store very often. We ended up getting a Graco double from a garage sale for like $35 and have used it a couple of times...(to go to the zoo, for example).

I agree with those who said you won't really use it until next spring anyway and at that point the baby will be big enough to go in it.

good luck!

Hi L.,
My boys are 22 mos apart and we use the Baby Trend Sit N Stand. It's perfect for walking to the playground and going to the mall. Very easy to get in and out of the trunk of our car. My older child does not usually like to sit so it has been perfect for us. The little sitting platform in the back for him is pretty small and awkward when the car seat is in the front b/c the front seat needs to be reclined. It goes on sale a lot too.

I LOVE my Graco double stroller. I have 13 month old twins and loved being able to just snap the carseats in it. And now that they're out of them, they have plenty of room and there's lots of room for storage underneath too. The only thing I don't like about it is the seatbelt part of it. There's 5 separate straps - the shoulder straps that you have to hook into the waist straps and then snap into the crotch strap. It's easy when you have to take them out of the stroller because you just click on one button and everything is released but getting them in takes a little while. Other than that it's very easy to maneuver even with the double wheels. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy.

You might also want to check out the Uppa. They are pricey but if you call them they sometimes have "damaged" models that they sell for less. The set up is similar to a phil and teds (kids sitting front/back) but there is also a "skate board" type attachment that the older child can stand on instead of sitting! Good Luck

BTW-we got the Uppa after we sold out Phil and Ted's on craigslist.

I love the idea of getting the graco double stroller and had considered it myself. I am a nanny and have a 3 month old boy and will have a newborn at work coming september. My boss just bought a double stroller from Jeep, which has a special belt for the car seats. I really like the stroller, it is a one hand fold stroller and easy to handle. Hope this helps, Y.

I have a 2 year old and a 10 month old. We ended up getting the phil and teds double kit (when our oldest was 14 months old). It was awesome because our older child could sit in front and the back dropped down to create a womb like affect for the newborn to be in. Then as each got older, we kept our infant in the graco carseat which has an adaptor for the phil and teds. Our older one stayed on the bottom. Now, both kids still like riding in it. They are sturdy strollers, and for a double stroller, are SMALL. Hope that helps
