Double Stroller Suggestions

I have a very active 23 month old son and a 10 week old baby girl and would like to buy a double stroller. Does anyone have any recommendations other than the Bob which seems to be over $500. I already have so many strollers and the idea of getting another expensive one drives me nuts. Would love any feedback and or suggestions.

I think it depends on how much you intend to use it. I could not find a workable double stroller in the $200 range (that seemed to be the minimum for double strollers). I tried several and they each had their problems and my boys hated sitting in them for any length of time. I wanted a stroller for walking on all different kinds of terrain (and running for my husband) as well as for shopping (narrow enough to fit through doors and down aisles). I couldn't dream of spending so much for a stroller, but I finally got the Valco Baby Trimode Twin and it is worth every penny! I love it! Best money I ever spent. I can use it anywhere and my boys are happy in it. It is bulky when folded, but all of the double strollers I used were - I don't think you can avoid that with a double. I also hear very good things about the BOB and it is about the same price as the Valco. I know you don't want to spend that much, but if you plan to get any good use out of it, you may want to think of trying to find one used - I know I'm planning to resell mine when I am done with it so you may get lucky. I hope you find one you like!

Hi C., you could put in a request at Freecycler.com. I'm always amazed at the requests people make and how often they get what they've asked for. Good luck.

I went through a lot of strollers and was embarrassed to buy yet another one. I got a tandem combi which was light and easy to collapse. The rear seat went flat. The problem with that one was that as my son got older it was harder to navigate. Like the duoglider, it just felt too long. Then I got the duallie and love it. I joined REI membership. They have sales with 20% off and if you don't like it there's a 100% guarantee. My friend has a side by side combi and she's still using it with her 2 and 4 yr old. Comfort for both kids was important to me. But then again, it can be a pain to maneuver with a side by side. I donated my unused strollers to baby2baby. Good luck

Sell all your other strollers and buy a Phil and Teds. It's expensive but can replace any other stroller you have. I LOVE mine!! :)

I ended up going through 2 double strollers, I had the graco front and back stroller at first, and I hated it because it was impossible to get over curbs, etc. But you could attach the infant seat. After about a year I ended up getting the Combi side by sid fold up stroller, which I have liked. I got it because it was pretty inexpensive. You should go to babies r us and check out their selection. Another one that people like is the joovy caboose, but it has certain draw backs - not great on rough terrain, and their is only one canopy for shade.

Check out Children's Orchard or another resale shop. I was at the one in Torrance last week and they had two double strollers for sale.

Hi C., you should check out Toys r Us, and Target... I bought one a couple of years ago and it was really inexpensive, and I even used it to do my daily walk in the park. Its the kind that has a seat in the front for a younger child and you can even set the car seat on it if needed, and in the back there is a seat facing you with a stepping piece where the older child can either sit or stand while you walk with it. God bless

Hi C. B.

You can take the strollers to a consignment store to sell. I wouldn't buy a double stroller unless it was one you could use for a longtime. Not the baby in the front, baby in the back type. I've seen the runners strollers with 2 people in them. I don't know how it would work for the baby right now, but later it would be great! My daughter-in-law didn't buy a double stroller when her 2nd child was born 19 mths apart in Oct, it was too cold. But in the summertime she had the baby in one of those pouches around her neck and pushed the older one in the stroller, when she went for a walk. Later at the grocery store, she snapped the infant seat from the stroller onto the grocery cart, and the oldest one sat in the grocery cart with toys. That is if she had a few items to pick up. Any big items of course, she'd have someone else with her pushing another cart. At times the oldest would want to walk and hold
hands and the baby would go into the stroller. It worked for them! Take care,God bless.

The Bob Revolution is really the best as far as doubles go- when I had my second I only used that stroller exclusively after having a fleet of single strollers.

If you don't want a real double: the Bumbleride Queen B is an option.

And I would think about a stroller with a bassinet for on-the-go sleep.

FYI: I am giving away a Bumbleride Queen B (without the jump seat- sold separately) sometime this month to a lucky subscriber.

It depends what you want it for... if you want a jogging kind, then you should do what others recommended... getting a used one. If you want a light one for everyday kind of things macalaren tein techno and peg peg perego aria are awesome.
Here's a link that might be useful. (Just in case the link doesn't work, go to strollers.com, and click on double strollers on the middle right hand side)

Good luck!!!

buy used !!! before you know it your 2 year old will want to walk and should....
i personally prefer the one child in front of the other. it is harder to get up curbs but takes up way less room in any kind of crowd or aisle.

I love my Joovy Caboose. It is great with the seat bench in the back or your older child can stand and watch what is going on. My son likes to think he is driving it when he stands. My son was 3 1/2 when my daughter was born and mostly wanted to walk but still liked to ride sometimes. my son is now 5 1/2 and my daughter is 20 months so it works great for both my kids even now. I can't imagine my son wanting to be in a "regular" sitting stroller. He still likes to stand and once in a while sit.
2 styles to choose from the one that costs little more is better, lighter weight & bigger canopy. Still under $250.
Good Luck!!

The Joovy Caboose is great. I just bought it for a trip with my 6 month old and 3 yr old. It folds flat (and easily) and is great going through airports, etc. We used it on a lot of cobblestone streets and it was fine, too.

If your toddler is like mine - he won't want to sit in the stroller much anyway. My son loves the pockets behind his special bench. I highly recommend it. And it is 11 inches shorter than the stand and sit from Target. Easier to maneuver

I also suggest checking out 2nd hand stores or craigslist.org for a used double jogger stroller if that's what you really want.

You may also consider a sit and stand stroller. Most have an infant seat attachment for the front and the "stand" part has a seat with seatbelt to keep your son in place. It's less bulky than a side by side, but it is harder to steer.

This is the one I have, but they also make a sit and stand that can work as a double (you can see it if you scroll down):

I have a four year old and a nine month old and have the Peg Perego Twin. I think it's about $300 at Babies R Us...still not cheap, but I love it. Fits both the kids, nice and light weight, doesn't take up a ton of room, opens and shuts easily and BOTH kids can lie fully down.

Good luck!

I have had more than my share of cheap and expensive strollers. Now depending on how much you go and where. I absolutely LOVE my baby jogger city series classic double. Yes it is right at 500. But I have had about 5 or 6 other double strollers, never happy for different reasons. This is by far the BEST one I have EVERY used. I have a jeep tandem that stays in the garage (need to get rid of it, collecting alot of dust) and I take the jogger where ever I go. It fits in doors, turns on a dime so may things it does. My older kids love it, they ride in it, and push it. The 9yr down to 1 1/2yrs now, have had the same one for 4 years, still works GREAT. good for the mall, amusement park, off road-ing, running anything. I understand the $$ my husband bought mine fora mothers day present. I had enough strollers did not need another..LOL. I would not trade this for anything! It is the "Cadillac" of strollers.(so I've been told).Do your research but w/6 kids and 13 years of trying doubles and singles, my money is w/ this one!

i used the graco duoglider. it was fine. i didn't love it-it's really long. But, it was affordable, and had a big basket, a cup holder and a little cubby for keys. It worked perfectly for me. When they got bigger I switched to the sit and stand.
