Hi L.,

My opinion is to let her decide if she wants pierced ears. My daughter was 10 when she finally decided she was ready and has not asked for another type of piercing since, she is 15 now. Yes, when she was younger people tried to convince me otherwise but my mother did the same to me and I never went overboard with piercings either.

Good luck.

I would wait until she decides for herself if she wants them. I'll wait for my daughter, who is almost 2 years, to make her own decision about that.

I think that is the best age. I talked to my pediatrician about this (I have a 3 mo. old daughter). He said that once they are 4 mos and have all their shots up to date, it is safe to get their ears pierced. However, my husband and I agree that we should wait until she is sitting up on her own, so that way she isn't always laying on them. So at 6 mos, we plan on doing it.

I had my dauthers ears pierced at 6 months old and she did great. I think its best to get them done young because you have control over the ears like cleaning them or changing them. Also they don't seem to pull at them either.

If you do it make sure you leave the original studs in for as long as possible. I made my 4 year old keep them in for 1 year. My neighbor let her daughter take them out after six weeks. They put in expensive diamonds and the earing slipped through and got stuck. The diamond was imbedded in her ear. They tried again the next year. Again they didn't leave the original studs in. This time the back of the earing got embedded in her ear.
The best thing is the original studs or a small hoop after the ear has had time to heal.
Good luck.

Hi L.
I pierced my daughter ears at 6 months she is 3 now and loves it.Just make sure you have someone that is use to doing it on small children also get the small round ball earings in the 18k gold, clean the ears with qtip and cleaner everyday and turn the earing while in the ear Do Not take the earing out for the first 6 months unless they become infected (they shouldnt if you turn and clean them). After 6 months you can put in different earings still use real gold but dont let her go with out earings at all for the first year, hope this helps.

I know getting a baby's ears pierced is a cutsy thing, but honestly you should wait til later. Do you remember when you got yours done? I do and it wasn't fun. Having to clean around them each day with acohol worrying about them getting infected all that. I remember specifically a mom on here having all kinds of complications with her baby's ears because of doing that. Just my 2 cents.

I got my daughters ears pierced at 2 months. I am so glad we did it then. She had no problem with them at all. Just in the past 6 months has she even realized that they are there. I would reccommend doing it young. Good luck!

I got my daughters ears pierced when she was 4 months old and my sister in law got my neices pierced at 3 months old, we went to Coreys in Westland mall. 90% of their clients are under 1 year! Both came out beautiful , even(on ears), and with quality surgical gold. My experiance there was great!

I had my daughter's ears pierced at 2 months old. She cried only when I had to restrain her. She didn't mind the fact that they did only one ear at a time. I gave her tylenol half hr before and didn't need anymore. I felt that I was better off getting hers pierced before she got into the ear pulling stage. Her ears healed quickly, and having daddy there for moral support helped.

I have two girls, 3 1/2 and 9 months. I got the oldest's ears pierced at 4 months and the younger at 6 months. I think it is much easier on everyone if their ears are pierced while they are younger and don't realize it. That way, you can care for them properly.

I had my daughter's done when she was nine months old. It was really not a big deal. They do it at the same time and the pain was over in seconds. They healed really well and she never even touched them. And of course they looked so cute!

If you want her ears done do it NOW!! The longer you wait the more she will notice them and play with them. I got my daughters ears done at 4 months old, they did one ear at a time. I gave her a toy when she started to cry and it stopped her immediately. She does not play with them at all and I have not had any problems with them. Her doctor stated to wait until 6 months old, but I couldn't wait. they look SOOO cute!!!! Good luck and let us know what you do!!!

I had my daughters ears pierced when she was 6 months. I would recommend doing it at that age. My daughter didnt even cry. They do both ears at the same time, so its over very quick. My daughter never messed with the earrings at all, and we never had any problems with it. She is 3 1/2 now and still has them. Just make sure you keep them clean, they will give (or sell, cant remember) some cleaning solution. Good luck, she will look so cute!

I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was 3 months old. She barely noticed the first one go in and she just cried for a minute with the second, I think more or less because it startled her. It was a good age, she was too little to even notice that there was something new and because she's used to them being there, she never plays with them or anything bad. She never fussed when I cleaned them either. She's two now. All I can recommend is screwback earrings, or else you will lose them. You know your daughter best, good luck if you decide to go through with it.

I think getting my daughter's ears pierced at 5 months was the best time to do it, because she doesn't pull them or even touch them. Cleaning them and turning them was easy, she couldn't really put her hands up to tell me to stop or say not to touch her. She never acted as if they bothered her and they ARE so CUTE!!! They never got infected and we had no problems. It just makes her look more like a little girl. No one ever called her a boy again.... lol SHe is now 20 months and still doesn't touch them. So good luck!

My daughter(now 2 1/2) got them done at 4 months. I found a place that did them both ears at the same time! she screamed, i had a pacifer &bottle ready for right after. she was fine.my issue was the backs would get stuck and id really have to pull to get them off. she would have to be pinned down to do this or change her earrings.so by 13 months , i just couldnt make her suffer any more,so i took them out and let them close up. ill wait til she is old enough to want them and help take care of them! this is just what happen to me !

Both of my girls had thier ears pierced when they were six weeks old, the younger they are the better. There is nothing to be scared about and they only cry for a couple seconds, I think the noise scares them more than it hurts. I gave my girl tylenol or motrin about 30 minutes or less before I got thiers done.

Hi L..

Right before our 5 month old daughter was born, my husband and I talk about getting her ears pierced. The lady who pierces said that the 'rules' regarding babies are that they have to have had two Hep B shots already in order to pierce them. But she continued on to say that it is better to wait until they are three years old, because they grow so much during the time period from birth to three. Sometimes babies who get their ears done have centered holes at first and then as they grow they are really high on their ears or not centered at all, depending on how the ear grows. So we decided to wait until three years for our daughter, because we didn't want it to be weird looking after she grew a bit and have to redo it or even forget the whole thing if it was screwed up too bad. Bummer huh, because I think it is adorable!!! We have several friends who have done their girls as babies and their piercings seem fine, but they are still little. Good luck and take care.

Hi L.,
I agree with Michelle. It is for your happiness that you want them pierced not hers. Babies are so cute anyway having her ears pierced isn't going to make much of a difference. That's just my opinion.

I waited until my daughter wanted her ears pierced. I was scared about it hurting too. She was 15 months and would point to my ears and than to hers, but I waited until she could talk so about 22 months she kept saying she "wanted pretty too" so on her 2nd birthday we all (grandparents too) went to the mall and got them done. She cried until she saw them in the mirror and than she got a big smile on her face we video taped it and took pictures. And she picked out the earrings she wanted. My mom bugged me about getting them done even before she was born, (I was 9 motnhs old when I got mine) but I am glad I waited until she could make her own choice and it was a fun mother/daughter thing after 2 boys! She wants them changed everyday to match her clothes. She's 3 1/2 now.

I'm of the mind that any piercing should be a personal choice. I never had my ears pierced when I was younger, because it just never occured to me to bother. But, I could have at any time that I asked. I only just about 6 weeks ago got them done, at the age of 31.lol I think it might be best to wiat until your daughter wants it, and can demonstrate responsible care of them herself. Taking care of a baby is enough work sometimes without adding earring care to it. And I'm sure she wonderfully beautiful without piercings.

I did my daughters at month she looked shocked for the first one cried for a literally minute on the second one. I gave her a bottle and havent heard a peep about it since...shes 12 lol!!!! Good luck in what you decide.

I had my daughters ears pierced at 4 months. I was really nervous just like you. I have 3 suggestions for you that will make it easier.
1. Take a friend. You have to hold your daughter and keep her head still. That was the hardest part. I held my daughter with one arm around her chest and one over her forehead. Well you know they don't like to be restrained. I let go of her head and my friend just held her cheeks. That was way better for my daughter.
2. Have them double team her. That way there is only 1 zinger. It was great.
3. I gave her some baby tylenol about 1/2 hour before we did it. I am not sure it helped, but better safe than sorry.

All in all it was not so bad. Worse for me than her I think. She cried for a total of about 10 seconds and then she smiled at one of the ladies that did it. Better now when she doesn't remember it. What little girl doesn't want their ears pierced anyway. Why not save them a little pain later. It is not like you want to tattoo her. If she doesn't want to have pierced ears when she's older then she can let them close up. I can't see that happening though. Everyone comments on how cute my daughter is with her little earrings. She doesn't bother them either. Another plus.

Good Luck!

I had my daughters ears pierced when she was 7 months old. It was the best thing in the world. My niece who is 6 just got it done and she had a little more pain because she is old enough to feel the earrings when she is sleeping. If you want them pierced to it when they are young. I had my daughters done at Cory's Jewel Box at Lakeside Mall and I never had a problem with them. (Just make sure your child has had their first round of vaccinations or else no one will do it.) Good Luck and congrats on a baby girl!

I think that piercing is a choice she should make, but had mine done when I was a baby, no big deal. I had a friend that got it done when she was a baby and they didn't pierce it right, they did not take into account that she would grow up and so did her ear lobes so her holes were at the very bottom edge of her ear lobes and it looks like if she were to wear big earrings it would rip her ear right in half. So if you are going to pierce her ears make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing and ask the right questions, like if they swell, are they using gold, are the back end sharp so if she rolls on them will it hurt... Good luck!

Maybe it is just my opinion, but I think that ear piercing is something that they should want to have done. It is a purely cosmetic thing and not necessary to put your little one through. Like I said just strictly my own opinion. Good Luck in all your choices.

The younger you do it the better. I had my daughter's ears pierced at 6 weeks old. She turned 5 and wanted them done again. She turned 7 and wanted them done again. My daughter has three holes (piercings) and she gets compliments all the time from kids and parents. My mom was okay with the first one but when my daughter wanted the others she got upset!
We waited about 5 months each time after she asked for another piercing to make sure that is what she wanted.
