A neighborhood group that I belong to is going to hold an Easter egg hunt for young children (pre-K).
I need to fill a couple dozen plastic eggs and am looking for ideas from other moms who have done this in the past. My daughter is a year and a half old, and I'm concerned that many of the items that I'd usually fill eggs with could be choking hazards for little ones. Thanks in advance for your ideas!
This is so fun!! In the past I have used animal crackers,cherrios or other finger foods and the gerber fruit snacks. I fill the eggs and put them in gallon zip lock bags to stay fresh.
Coupons for McDonalds or a free ice cream cone, are always fun to get.
Goldfish crackers!
Raisins (but just a few so the kids don't cram too many in their mouths at one time).

We used to fill them with rolls of stickers, little bottles of bubbles, tiny cars, all the little things you'd find in the party supply aisle for putting in loot bags. Things that were age appropriate, though. You can also get the big eggs and put in packs of munchies...
I used to fill my toddler's eggs with cheerios, colorful mini marshmallows and goldfish. However, since these items will not be individually wrapped, it's best not to let them sit in the grass too long so the ants won't get to them.
Whatever you do DON"T USE CHOCOLATE. It melts when it's warm outside. Usually you can use things like sweettarts, starbursts,jelly beans or easter-themed toys like from Party City or Wal-Mart. I hope this helps. God bless.

A few years ago, I did an Easter egg hunt for little ones. Some of the things that I put into eggs included stickers, hair barrettes for the little girls, matchbox cars, and other stuff that I just can't seem to remember. Also, I ordered a deli tray from Jason's Deli and served fruit, cheese cubes, juice boxes, petite carrots, celery sticks, and dips for the vegs. Wish I could offer more. One more thing... I also bought a case of "Cascarones". Cascarones are something I learned about when we used to live in San Antonio. They are egg shells that have been emptied, cleaned, colored, and filled with confetti. The kids got a kick out of breaking them over each other's and their parents heads. You might see if a Mexican grocery store could help you out in finding them. They were a big hit.

I have two ideas for you. 1)Insert large gold coins or magnetic numbers in eggs that can be redeemed for a prize(med to large beach balls, balls, bubbles, bath toys, large Easter Candy, small stuffed animals. 2) If you are on a tight budget or do not prefer candy, US Toy at Josey and Beltline has good selections of toys and Easter Eggs that are larger than normal. My child has a sensitivity to dyes and many of the products found in Easter candies, so I have always opted for inexpensive toys. Another idea is to stuff eggs with coupons to ice cream or MacDonalds. Hope this helps.
we ran up against a similar situation except ours was we couldn't find anything to put in the eggs that someone in my son's class wasn't allergic to. so how about cascarones - those confetti-filled eggs you can find in mexican specialty shops ... kids love em.
