Eczema Relief - Columbus,OH

You may laugh but I just had my first baby and was applying lanolin twice a day to releave dryness. Well my husband has extreamly dry skin in the winter dry, craking and bleading along with some itching, he asked me what that lanolin work like and tried it on his hands one night and put socks over his hands to sleep. Not a miricle remedy but in three days they were greatly improved and no more cracking since and he has stopped using it for probably two weeks now.

I have had eczema for a while on my face. The meds the doctor gave me barely helped. A friend told me about taking apple cider vinegar and it worked! It is called Bragg's Raw & Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. It is in the health food section at most stores, but the best price I've found is as Kroger. It is not instantaneous (took about 2 months to get rid of it completely), but it is better than popping pills since it has other beneficial properties (google it for more on that). I now take 2 tablespoons once a day in warm water with Blue Agave Sweetener (to take the edge off). The bottle actually says to take it 3x/day, 1 Tbsp each time. It has worked and I am thrilled!

My daughter has really bad eczema. We use in the Disney's Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream. It's very thick and soothing. I also have use with great success but hard to find in the stores Little Doc's products. They are easy to find on line. My husband likes the Cooling Spray Lotion because it sprays on and is easier after a bath/shower. They also have a Calming cream....it's thick like Disney's. Oh you will find all these in the baby aisle.

Do you use gloves?

If this is the case let me tell you that I used to have ezcema in my hands just like you do. I find out that plastic gloves even the latex free ones were triggering my ezcema to the point of bleeding. I swich to the gloves that doctors use. Cosco sell them in the farmacy department.

I second Renew. It is incredible and been tested to show 7x more effective than Eucerin. For me I also love that the scent is very faint so our son who has horrid dry hands uses it and does not complain that it is "girly".

My family uses Renew lotion. Its amazing...and completely safe during your pregnancy. I've been using it on my youngest since she was diagnosed with eczema. It even works better than the prescription creams we got from the pediatrician.

Well we were told to use nice thick lotions for our baby who has eczema. Aquaphor and Eucerin are good thick ones. You can use them on babies so I assume you can use them on yourself while pregnant.. good luck!

I think SS gave good advice with Aquaphor. Our daughter was diagnosed with Eczema around 12 months. The Dermatologist recommended Vanicream, an over-the-counter moisturizer with no fragrances/dyes. It's just a good, thick cream that we put on immediately after each bath, and it's done a great job of controlling it.

Walgreen's certainly carries it, but so do most other pharmacies (they may only have 1 in stock, so you should probably ask the pharmacist if they carry it). If they don't have one in they can easily order it and usually have it the next day.

It usually runs ~$10 for a big tub (usually lasts ~2 months).

Just to be safe, though, I'd ask your OB/GYN to make sure there isn't anything you should certainly avoid.

My daughter developed eczema when she was about 9 years old. She is 26 now. When she has a bad flare up she will use Bag Balm. You say what that is!? It can be purchased over the counter in most pharmacy areas and comes in a little old fashion looking green tin. It is what farmers’ wives used on their hands when they became sore from milking the cows…thus the “bag” part of the balm. When I was first given this tip my initial response was WHAT!...but it works. Use at night and wear gloves. Give it a week and you will see the difference. Good luck. There are always the oatmeal baths. I know that most lotions don't work so well for eczema, but Aveno has a baby lotion for eczma, that worked well for my daughter. I think it has oatmeal in it too actually. It isn't usually with the regular lotions in the store, it's almost always back in the baby section. My daughter has had eczema since birth, she's almost two now, and it never fails to help.

My son has terrible eczema and we have found that Aloe Propolis Creme is amazing for it. It is made with cool stabilized aloe grown without any chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides as the main ingredient. It also has bee propolis which is a natural antibiotic. It will definitely help with the itching and hurting and is completely natural and safe in pregnancy. If your hands are really scratched it might sting on first application, but I find that it helps to heal my hands when they are dry and bleeding! Another thing to think about is the type of soap that you are using on your hands. There are a lot of soaps which cause my family lots of problems. We use the Aloe Liquid Soap which is more like a moisturizing wash as a hand soap - and we use it in the shower and to wash off my makeup! You will have to check about using it during pregnancy, but taking cod liver oil everyday helped my son's eczema a lot.

this might sound weird, but I found it helpful. I also have eczema bad on my hands and hd a baby a few weeks ago. I ran the sink with Really hot water and would put my hands up the water until I couldn't stand it anymore. Then I would turn the water to cold and run my hands under that for relief. The itch always stopped. Weird I know, but I couldn't find any other relief.

I have read that 1/4 cup bleach in a tub full of water helps eczema. I would think it would be safe for you since pregnant women can go in pools but you may want to check with your doctor.

Hi C. I work with Shaklee and yes I do know what will help. The natural way to deal with eczema is with nutrition. GLA, Omega and a good probiotic. None of which will hurt being pregnant and all of which are good for many other healthy parts of life. Let me know if I can help.

Cortizone cream is safe, except you can't use it on your face. If you need something for your face (or if the Cortizone doesn't seem to be strong enough), Elidel is safe while pregnant and breastfeeding, you need a prescription for it.
Sometimes shea butter lotion is enough for mild cases, you might try that before the steroids even though they are mild and safe.

I read in Prevention magazine to use Olive Oil.
It has inflammation-reducing antioxidants. Used alone it's free of chemical irritants that may be found in store bought creams.
Rub 1 teaspoon per square inch of skin....for serious cases cover oiled skin with plastic wrap overnight.

Wow. I know exactly how you feel. Eczema on my hands when I was pregnant and now 2 years later it has yet to go away completely. I can't know for sure if these will help you. I just know they have helped me in the past. I don't ever use any weird kind of lotion with all the fragrances and 30 different ingredients. The one I've found works best for me is Cetaphil. The one in the tub. I've found it for varying prices at different stores. The lotion only seems to work when my hands are just really dry. Cracking and bleeding, claw-like, cant move my hands or they'll fall off dry. If you're asking for relief for a flare up; The little bubble-like vesicles. Then I can give you some ideas, I'm not sure what works for me will work for you. I've used 5 different steroid creams & they all seem to stop working a few days after I've started using them. Since you already said those are a no-go, I'd try the hydrocortisone cream. Usually at the drugstore you can get only 1%. Your doctor can probably give you a prescription for a stronger one. I don't think it will be harmful to the baby. I've also used zinc oxide cream. Diaper cream, really. I put it on at night then put some cotton gloves over it. That helps sometimes. Some people I've known have also done h2o2 soaks. It's just hydrogen peroxide. I've done it before, and while it does dry up the vesicles it does hurt and can be uncomfortable for a while. The only good thing to come from the peroxide is that it seems to make that cycle heal a bit sooner. That's all I can really think of right now. Good luck, I hope this has helped you. Eczema or dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin that can be caused by low hydrochloric acid in the stomach, candidiasis, food allergies or a weakness in the enzyme delta-6 desaturase which converts EFAs (essential fatty acids) into anti-inflammatory protatglandins. There are specific nutrients, especially B vitamins, that if defiicient, can irriate this condition.

ESSENTIAL are B vitamins and EFAs. I also know that one of my clients who was eating XOCAI, the healthy chocolate, was taking it as a supplement as a cancer patient, but it cleared up her eczema.

If you want something topical, get some Betaine HCI and use as directed on the label. This is a form of hydrochloric acid. Touch base w/ your pharmacist if you have any further ?s. Aloe certainly won't hurt either and it will help some of the dryness and scaling.
