I am looking to hear from Moms who have had the Essure procedure done as their permanent form of birth control.. Any input you have would be appreciated.
Would like to hear about any pain involved, strange side effects, weight gain or loss, positive comments, etc....Just anything you can tell me about it....it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

I had it done about 3 years ago and it's been great. I was only unable to do anything for about a day. I only had slight discomfort and other than being careful during our intimate times for 3 months until my follow up x-ray it was a great experience. I have recommended it to several friends who have all also had good experiences. I say go for it....it's simple, easy, outpatient and convenient. Good luck!

I had the essure procedure done in November of 2008. I stopped nursing my son in september and have only had two periods. I have been trying to do some research about long term side effects because even though I am only 30 I have started having symptoms of menapause. I am trying to find out if there is any risk of early onset menapause in relation to the essure procedure, but there is not alot of information out there.

I haven't had it done but since it is non-hormonal you should not have to worry about any side effects like weight gain. The coils are placed into your ovarian tubes and with their presence cause scar tissue to build up which prevents you from being able to get pregnant. Bearing that in mind you have to be sure because it is absolutely not reversible. Here's a link to their website: http://www.essure.com/ Good luck with whatever you decide.

After my last baby I wasn't ready for permanent birth control so i opted for the Mirena IUD. Hower, my doctor said when I am ready the Essure procedure is what she recommends. She recommends this over the tubal. I didn't ask why, but I trust her as she has delivered all three of my children. Good luck!

i haven't used the essure but i do know that right now i have a iud and it realeases no hormones into my system and mine is good for 10 years i haven't had any pregnancy scares or anything it is really simple and it may have to be done in another 10 years but its worth it. there is little pain when it is inserted and no side effects after i have had mine for 2 years now and i wouldn't use anything else it is great.

At my 6 week post-partum check up, we were discussing my options. I was supposed to have a tubal after delivery of my baby, but my blood wasn't clotting so I couldn't. I asked my doctor about this and he didn't seem very keen on the idea. He said there have been problems with them and he didn't recommend it. Unfortunately, I didn't ask what sort of problems as I was leaning towards a tubal anyway. My doctor is highly respected in this area and (I believe) is head of the department at the hospital...

Just wanted to let you know.

Good luck,
T.
