Exzema at 10 Weeks-what to Do?

My 10 week old son has exzema on his body...it's very mild and probably due to dry weather. He doesn't scratch at it or anything--it's a mild rash on his body. The dr. told me to use Aveeno baby (unscented) lotion a couple times a day to keep his skin moisturized and not to wash him with soap in his bath. Also, he said I could use .5% hydocortisone cream. I did for a few days but I don't want to apply it to his entire body so I stopped and have only used Aveeno lotion. He has some on his face too which the dr. told me to use Aquafor but that hasn't done anything. I wonder if I should take him back to the dr. or a pediatric dermatologist. Any suggestions on what I should use? I hear Eucerin cream is good...is that true? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Eczema is usually due to allergies. Breastfeeding or Formula? If you're doing breastmilk only it could be something that you're eating although more than likely not.... could be something in the products that you're using. If it's formula try changing brands or bases. AVOID any lotion that has mineral oil or petrolatum which is a petroleum product.

Hi D.,

My son has had eczema since birth. He's 6 now. It gets worse in the spring and summer because of his allergy to pollen, as well as in the winter because of the dryness. I took him to couple of dermatologists, they gave him prescription topical cream (stronger version of cortizone). I only apply it when the condition gets very bad. Otherwise I just put lots of lotion on him. Since your son's condition is mild and he's not itchy, just put on lotion frequently, like 4 times a day. You can use any unscented lotion like Aveena, Eucerin, and Centaphil. But if his skin gets really dry, these lotion may not help, then you can use the cream version of those brands (I've tried all of them. Eucerin is the most oily one, but with my son, it worked the best). The cream has really worked for my son these days since he goes to school and it's impossible for me to apply lotion several times a day for him. So I do it once in the morning, and once in the evening after shower.
Good luck.

Hi D., Congrats on your little man! I have a 2 year son that also has a few eczema spots. The doctor told me to use the Eucerin, but both my son and myself didn't like it. It is supposed to be non-greasy, but it took a couple of hand washings for me to get it off my hands. Plus my little guy actually said "No Mama" when i tried to put it on after the 1st 2 uses. That was it for me. So i didn't use anything at all. Well I just recently started working from home for an incredible wellness company and i found the solution! Renew Intensive Skin Therapy. It was designed for people with eczema and psoriasis. It's light enough for daily use, yet powerful enough to relieve severely dry skin. It is safe for newborns and up. My son loves it and asks to put on the lotion himself after his baths. It also healed my dried, cracked and bleeding hands, in one week! I will never use anything but this again! You can only get it through Melaleuca, you have to be a member but it is really easy and they have great benefits for being a customer. They also have healthy, safer, great products for all your household needs. Saves you time and $$. In their 23 years of business there has never been a case of ingestion that required hospitalization from their cleaning products! thats huge! well i hope the info helps. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have. Sons are the best and they are so much fun! Enjoy!

Put baby oil in the bath every other night. The nights you don't use the baby oil, wash with Cetaphil hair/body wash - it's very gentle on their skin. Too much soap can cause the dry skin to get worse. I know you used Aquaphor w/out luck, but it was always really great for us. Put it on when their skin is still damp after the bath and again in the morning and afternoon. It really does make them so soft.

Good luck.
