Favorite Recipe Websites?

I am so tired of planning meals. I like variety in our meals, so probably fix recipes once a month, sometimes twice. We have some favorites, but I'd love to have a collection to choose from. Do you have a favorite website or cookbook to recommend? I'm so tired of searching! Time is short, so I prefer quick meals or cook ahead. Also, we don't eat fish. Thanks for your suggestions!

For those of you who are looking for quick and easy mealtime options--try POWER COOKING! What that means is cooking up the main part of the meal (i.e.), dividing it into bags and having it ready to basically defrost and serve! Here's my favorite:

Prepare the Make Ahead Ground Beef ingredients and pick THREE of the recipes to prepare!

Make Ahead Ground Beef
3 medium onions
3 lbs. 90% lean ground beef
3 Garlic Cloves

Chop onion and press garlic cloves into 12" Skillet. Cook over medium heat 15-18 minutes until no longer pink, breaking apart with Mix and Chop.

Divide meat into 3 portions to use with the following recipes! You can mix the ingredients for the recipes below with your ground beef and freeze for a quick and easy meal--just heat and serve!

BARBECUE BEEF SLOPPY JOES
1 c. catsup
2 tbsp. Smoky Barbecue Rub
2 tsp. cider vinegar

TO SERVE:
12 small buns to serve on
8 oz. block cheddar cheese
1 small jar Dill pickle Slices

Combine 1 portion of make ahead ground beef with catsup, seasoning and vinegar and simmer for 10 minutes.

Top with shredded cheddar cheese and pickles and any other toppings of your choice!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
ITALIAN BEEF HOAGIES
1 green bell pepper
1 red bell pepper
1/4 c. water
2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 packet onion soup mix
1 tbsp. Italian Seasoning Mix

TO SERVE
8 oz. block Provolone or Monterey Jack Cheese
12 small hoagie buns

Combine ingredients and freeze. Defrost and grate cheese over meat while simmering; serve over warm hoagie buns.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
ZESTY BEEF TACOS
1 c. chunky salsa
6 oz. can tomato paste
3/4 c. water
1 packet taco seasoning mix

TO SERVE
8 oz. block cheddar cheese
1 large tomato
1 small can whole black olives
8 oz. container sour cream
1 small bunch green onions
1 small head lettuce
12 taco shells

Add ingredients to plastic bag and freeze. To serve, defrost and simmer 10 minutes. Spoon into taco shells and top with desired toppings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
SAUCY BEEF CHILI
16 oz. chili beans in sauce, undrained
14.5 oz. can petite diced tomatoes, undrained
1 1/2 c. water
6 oz. can tomato paste
1 packet chili seasoning mix

TO SERVE:
8 oz. block cheddar cheese
8 oz. container sour cream
1 small bunch green onions with tops

Add ingredients to plastic bag and freeze. To serve, defrost and simmer 10 minutes. Spoon into bowls and top with desired toppings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
EASY BEEF STROGANOFF
8 oz. can sliced mushrooms
10.25 oz. can cream of mushroom soup
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. ground paprika
salt and pepper to taste

TO SERVE:
8 oz. container sour cream
1 lb. egg noodles
1 small bunch parsley
2 tbsp. butter

Add ingredients to plastic bag and freeze. To serve, defrost and simmer 10 minutes. Add sour cream to beef mixture. Boil noodles until done and toss with snipped parsley and melted butter.

Hope you all enjoy these!

It has a spot on the site where you can put in what you have in your house already (i.e. spices, sides, meats) and it will pull something together from that or it will create a shopping list for you.

There is a WONDERFUL website, it is called cooks.com. I use it at least 4 times a week. Even if you know the name of something but not sure how to prepare it, you can type in the name and it will find several different recipes for it, for example wedding punch, type it in, and it will bring up everything fitting that description, also, if you just need a receipe for fish or chicken it has that too. Good luck, hope this helps.

Sincerely,
M. P.

Here's one of my favorite easy recipes:

1 container of Lloyd's barbecue beef, chicken, or pork (doesn't matter what)
1 can garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
1 can kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Fritos or some sort of corn chip
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

(You can use different beans, these are just the ones I use.) Rinse and drain all beans. Mix Lloyd's and all beans together in 2-quart baking dish until well mixed. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Heat at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes, until cheese is melted and is hot and bubbly. Serve with chips!

Even if your family doesn't like beans, I recommend trying this, because they won't even be able to taste them. Great protein dinner!!! Enjoy!

Hi J.!

I went to Park too! I loved that school (and i've been to quite a few around the area!!)! If i ever go back to school, i will be going there again. they have great teachers!

I like www.30daygourmet.com. basically it has meals that you fix ahead and freeze. i've tried several recipes and they've all been pretty good. if you pay, you get access to more recipes, but there are several on the website for free. you can also sign up for their newsletter that always has new recipes in it. they also have a few books out there too that i've checked out from the library.

also, i love my Betty Crocker's New Cookbook. everything i've tried in it is good. it's the best cookbook!

hope that helps!!

I really like tasteofhome.com! I get Taste of Home magazine and Simple and Delicious magazine (from the same publishers). I always look forward to getting them every month. EVERY SINGLE thing I have made from each magazine has turned out great!! Simple and Delicious even gives you a week of planned out meals and the grocery list already made so all you have to do is cut it out. Plus they have a ton of recipes that can be fixed in 30 min or less (for us busy moms) and recipes with few ingredients. There are recipe cards to cut out in each magazine too so you can create your own favorites cookbook. Happy cooking!

Oneo f my fave cookbooks is "The Dinner Doctor". The recipes use convenience foods and fresh foods together to make quick and delicious meals in any style you want. Anne Bryn is the author, and she is a permanent resident in my kitchen, heh; especially her "Cake Mix Doctor" books.
As for web sites, you've gotten tons of recommends there, wow! I usually google a certain ingredient I want to use, and go from there.
I subscribe to Taste of Home and Simple and Delicious, and get lots of new recipes to try. I use one or two a week to change things up around here.

Supper Tyhme or Pass Your Plate are great for stuff like that - you go and make a bunch of meals at a time and then you thaw them and pop them in the oven when your ready and because you make them you can leave out stuff you don't like. My husband and I started using them in October and so far we have only found one or two dishes that we weren't big fans of, but all the others we have tried have been great. Plus it is a time saver in the evenings so we have more time for each other and for our little boy. We generally buy 12 meals and because it is just the three of us we split them so it works out to be about 24 meals a month (there are some soups and stuff that you can't split).

I also use allrecipes.com but I definitely recommend Pass Your Plate! It only takes a few hours a month to make all the meals and you can choose from 3,6 or 10 meal packages. The one I go to usually runs a discount too. Even without it, the meals end up being very reasonable. What I love most about it is that I don't have to think. I just put a few meals in the fridge to thaw and I have dinner for the week. I travel for my job and come home late many days of the week. The meals have such simple heating instructions that my husband can have the dinner ready by the time I get home. This has helped our relationship out A LOT!

America's test Kitchen's Family Cook book has some really great meal menus in the back. Everyday~fast recipes, partys, holidays and special occasion menus are all in the back. I don't know what they might have on their website as well, www.americastestkitchen.com

In order to make shopping easier on me and so that I only have to go a few times a month, I plan out a months worth of meals in advance. This allows me to plug in super fast meals on the days we really need them (like t-ball practice days) and slower meals when we have the extra time.

This cook book also has slow cooker meals for those days when you just want to plop it together and leave it to cook all day.

I think our favorite meal is penne pasta with parmesan, sun dried tomatos and italian sausage. It's great.

My easiest meal is a Jenny O turkey roast that has it's own gravy, instant potatos and some veggie. Getting the roast in the oven on time is my greatest challenge, and every once in a while I have to resort to 35 minutes in the microwave instead of the oven but it's still super easy.

You might also check out Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals on FoodNetwork.com

I have to tell you the cook book also helps with well balanced meals. They use a lot of garlic and other spices an only a small amount of salt. It's helped me start shrinking my 320 pound fast food waist line down to 260 and I'm still losing because we're extra diligent about eating at home not out.
