My grandmother started this tradition with us and now I've started it with my own child. I buy him an ornament every year with the date on it. Other family members have done this as well and now he has 5 or 6 ornaments and he's only 2.5 yrs. Your daughter isn't going to remember this holiday. Most adults can't remember anything that happened in our lives before the age of 2. You don't need to go overboard. just keep it simple and start your own traditions.

It will be memorable for you no matter what you get her, but a swing would come in handy if you don't have one already. They help put the babies to sleep. Some music would be nice too.

Please come to me with any baby questions. I love helping out new moms!

Hi M.,

I kept it very simple for my son's first Christmas. My dh and I got more things for us really. We did his first handprint that we have framed. We took a lot of photos. We got him some special stuffed animals that he still sleeps with. Some ideas to help you out would be music - babies love music and there is more and more study on how that helps them when they are older. Another good idea is a baby swing - that will help you and the baby will love it. Other than that for a 3 month old there is not much else. Enjoy, take tons of photos with everyone that comes to visit, the time goes by too quickly.

I agree keep it simple. The memories are more for you and you don't want the memory of an overwhelmed, over tired baby.

Hi, M. I am a mom of 3 kids and I know exacly how you feel, but I have learned to keep it nice and simple. Get her first christmas pajamas for photos of course and as a gift get her what she really needs at this moment like clothes, because she is still growing out of everything quiet fast.Trust me she won't even remember this christmas.

We got our daughter a special ornament for the Christmas tree since this is her first Christmas. Precious Moments has nice items. We also had a stocking made with her name on it. We really didn't buy her much because we know the family will probably over do it!! What we did do was take a bunch of pictures of her in front of the christmas tree. Happy Holidays!!

I would say don't go overboard with anything. My sister's baby is 2 months old and I just got her a set of soft blocks. We are keeping the gifts on the light side, not spending too much money. I don't think they really know or care at that age what they get or whats going on. The lights might be pretty but thats it. I say make it more a photo opportunity so you you guys can share it together later. Leave the big gift splurges until she is older and can rip the paper up and show excitement at them.

Well, you gotta figure, it won't be memorable to her per se, so whatever you do get her has to make for a great "photo op". I currently have at home a 2 year old and a 1 1/2 month old. My local fire dept has a program where you bring a wrapped toy to them and make a donation, and Santa delivers the present to your home on Christmas Eve during a certain set time frame...ON a fire truck! that, i thought, will make a great photo op, even if the little one won't remember it. At least she'll see in the photos that Santa delivered her a present when she was a newborn! I don't think it's so much what item is given to the baby, but the WAY she recieves it. Like, who's lap is she in while opening the gift, how you can set her and "it" up in a photo... is it something she can wear, like a Santa hat, something that will look good in a photo, that's probalby the best you can hope for! While I was in labor with my now 2 year old, I crocheted her a santa claus hat. She was born 3 days before Christmas in 2004. So many of her baby newborn pics she's wearing that hat. If you can't crochet, you can always put one together, just get red felt, cut out the shape of a hat, whip stitch it together or just use glue! make a white rim of the hat out of white felt, and make a pom pom, that's kinda easy! And it makes for some memorable pictures, nothing cuter than a little baby in a Christmas santa hat :)

I too agree to keep it simple. Your daughter won't be old enough to really "get into" the whole present thing. If you plan on wanting to have presents under the tree, i would just get a couple of toys and some really nice outfits. My oldest was only 3 weeks old for her first christmas and i wasnt worried about presents under the tree so we had gotten her a "Mommy bear" (a bear that makes a kind of white noise to mimic the womb) to help her sleep. And family bought cans of formula (which can be expensive!).

Hope those are suggestions that might help!
