my daughter is almost 6 months and my doctor wants me to start getting her used to eating off of a spoon. She wants me to continue feeding her formula, but use a spoon.. this is extremely difficult, not to mention messy and ive been hesitant to continue because I feel as though she is still so young and when she eats solids ill start using a spoon.. Just wondering how other moms feel and if anyone elses doctor had the same thoughts.

What can I do next?

well i think you should start giving her cereal mixed with a little formula like a oatmeal and start her off that way cause she's in the age where she should be spoon eating but dont stop giving her formula.
my kids nutritinist told me to start me kids off at 4 months with baby cereal like barley, rice, or oatmeal
then veggies and juice at 6 months then fruits later on.

6 months is old enough to start giving your daughter rice cereal off a spoon. You do however only want to start with a single grain cereal (it should say so on the box). Because if you get multigrain and your daughter is allergic to one of them you will not know which one. I am also a first time mom, I will be 27 in a month and a half, and my daughter Kaydence, will be 2 in April. What you do is mix some of her formula with rice cereal, make sure its fairly runny though, since they dont really know how to work a spoon yet and its less of a chance they can choke. You can do this 2-3 times a day, usually when you would give her breakfast, lunch and dinner. And its also great if you baby is not a good sleeper b/c this will fill them up a little better before bedtime and they may sleep thru the night better. If you have any questions, you know where to find me. Good luck!

I continued with the bottle & started using a spoon when they started the jar foods. Don't worry. Do what works best for you.

Hi Cgristine

It may seem unusal at this time but, when you start to cup feed and solid food feed it's not hard. The joy of it all is when all your friends still have to bottle feed their children.
You will have a child that isd above them. She not to young for s spoon. When do you expect to potty trian her i started at a year old and she was trained by 18months. Girl it is messy but make a game of it just don't give in. Keep a stiffer upper lip. How may children do you know who still suck a bottle and still were pampers and they are 2 and over. Why cause the parents think it to early to train them so when is it a good time too.
