My all time favorite game that we played at my birthday party/slumber parties as a kid was a clue hunt. My dad would write clues on little pieces of paper and hide them all over the house. He would hand us the first clue that would lead us to the next clue and so on. The last clue would be a "treasure", usually candy, a movie or some little trinket toys. The dollar store would be a good place for this or the clearance valentine holiday racks in stores now (you can get some very cute girly heart necklaces, erasers, pencils, etc.). I have played this game with young elementary kids and up to older middle school kids, and the all love it! Clues could be as easy as pictures or little riddles.

Baking as suggested before is another great idea! Mini pizzas where the girls make their own with their own toppings, bake cut-out cookies (or buy premade) and have a bunch of different cooking decorating toppings set out so they can decorate their own cookies or build your own ice cream sundaes...mmmmm!

I have a 2yr old daughter now and I can't wait for her girly parties when she gets older!!! Good Luck and have fun :) J.

Hello-

My daughter went to a slumber party and had a lot of fun playing this game. :)

The girls split up into two teams (if there are 4 girls, then two teams of 2)Someone could go twice if the teams are uneven.

Items needed are:
2 pairs of girls pajamas
2 suitcases (duffel bags, whatever)
2 pairs of slippers

and then anything else that you want to add such as:
sleep masks
robes
night cap

The two suitcases are filled with an equal amount of the above items and placed across the room from the two lines(teams) of girls.

On your count, the first girl on each team (she is also wearing her own pjs) runs to the suitcase, opens it, puts on the pjs, slippers, robe, etc...then....takes everything back off packs it in the suitcase, zips it up and runs back to her team to tag the next player.

The first team to get through all girls wins!!!!!!!!!

Have fun and try to get some sleep that night. :)

There is a circle game that we used to play with the kids at the summer camp where I used to work. The one I am thinking of is called "i'm going on a trip"... The first person says I am going on a trip and i am bringing... sun screen, the next person says I am going on a trip and I am bringing sunscreen and my swim suit, the next person says I am going on a trip and I am bringiing sunscreen, my swimsuit and then they add their idea. So each person that goes has to remember the list that was given before their turn. It is fun to see how many times they can make it around the circle AND to see how much they can remember. Cute, wholesome and a lot of fun. Be careful with the sharing make-up and the hair things. After working in child care for 8 years I became a bit of a germ-a-phobe when it came to lice and pink-eye! I have more ideas if you want, you can contact me privately. Too much to type here. I also found a lot of ideas on line at different teaching websites. Have fun!!!

I was actually thinking of doing a sleepover party for my daughter this year too and I have been thinking of going to Michaels and buying puffy paints and having them decorate teeshirts or something like that.

Other activities you could do with that age maybe have groups and have a contest who could paint the funniest clown faces.

A scavenger hunt. Give them a list of things to collect and put them in two groups and have them go ask neighbors for things on their list maybe tell them they can't leave the block or can only go down 10 houses or something.

We are having a sleepover this weekend for my daughter who is turning 8.
I asked my daughter what SHE wanted to do and then went on a search using the internet for ideas. Here's what we are doing. Pizza, bridal /weddng dress wrapping (using toilet paper rolls and splitting the girls into groups they make a wedding dress on a girl using the t-paper) musical chairs, whisper game ( start out whispering a few sentences in an ear and then go down the line,, see how it is different from what was first said. crafts - stringing beads for bracelet, painting on pillow cases, glow in the dark nail polish on fingers & toes movie ( i found Mary Kate and Ashley sleepover and many of their other videos -- these videos are age appropriate and not scary) with popcorn and water. Flashlights will be given to each girl. BED.. pancake breakfast in the morning.

****When I told my friends about our ideas, one had glow in the dark nail polish she is letting us use, others gave pillow cases that they didn't need or want anymore. I gathered up different flashlights around the house to be used for night time. Just wanted to add that, because often times we overlook using things we already have in the house or don't want to ask others. Most Moms I know are more than happy to help out -- ~ mom's need to stick together especially for a sleepover.*****

There are also some great websites where you can copy birthday coloring pages and make your own birthday party word search and puzzles. Girls that age usually love to color using different types of markers and do word search puzzles. At this age they like to keep busy. Movies, nail polish, a party game, craft and ice cream sundaes and coloring pages should make for a great party.

I am researching for my almost 3 year olds bday party and have found some really fun sounding games that are way to old for his age group, but might work for you. Here is the link.

I like the idea of a treasue hunt, you could hide the snacks and it wouldn't cost you anymore than you are already spending.

I know a famous easy free thing to do is let them build forts out of couch cushions blankets chairs whatever they want. Also maybe let them make cookies or bake their own treats. also teach them some card games like go fish or slap jack or war. the old fashioned stuff. break out some face paints or make up and let them do make overs. toe and finger nail polish. and start a pillow fight with them. also off the subject what kind of work do u do at home and whats the original investment i have been trying to find something worthwhile for a very long time. please help

The Last Sleep over My daughter Hosted I had two tables set up. One had all tyoes of hair things and the other had girl friendly wvery washable make up. I also had a tote full of all of my daughters dresses and other fancy gowns I had gotten from various thrift stores. I even had a bag filled with all kinds of plastic bead necklaces. The girls had a blast nmaking each other over and then I took pictures and shot some footage with my video camera. When dh came home he transfered the footage on to dvd's for each of the girls to take home.

A game my daughter plays in Daisy Scouts all the time is really fun for the kids, but easy. Get some Carpet samples, label them 1, 2, 3, etc. They each child gets a cup (or a bag). Then they kids get some much time (10-15 sec) to find a number. Then roll a dice and whomever is on that number gets a tootsie roll. If there is someone on the number with them, they each get one. If the child is alone on the number then they get 3.

If you have any old makeup, or have time to go to the dollar store, playing beauty shop can be a lot of fun. I used to LOVE doing that when I was a little girl. You don't even need that much. A pink lip gloss can be eye color, cheek color and lip color all in one. Just be prepared for all the giggling. Have fun.

Pinatas are ALWAYS fun, especially if you put more than candy in them...little prizes for girls. Also - have them make individual pizzas....kids LOVE to cook - and you can have it all made up ahead of time.

A great game (for girls who are close, and comfortable with this type of contact) is called "Ha." This is one to play once they are all in pajamas, maybe follow it up with a movie before bed. The girls lie down on their backs on the floor, and each person lies with her head resting on another girl's belly, like a pillow (they would be lying kind of perpendicular to each other, if you can picture it. The first person says "Ha!" Then the second person says "Ha! Ha!" The next says "Ha! Ha! Ha!" and so on. Because ever time someone says "Ha!" their belly moves up and down, moving someone else's head, pretty soon it moves from pretend laughter to real laughter and everyone's heads are bouncing up and down and it is just hilarious. A great bonding experience.

Hi A.. I am having the exact same thing this weekend for my eight-year old (soon to be nine-year old) daughter. We are having a bowling party on Saturday and then the sleepover. I am going to use the dress-up idea with tables. I think that will be a lot of fun. And I am making a big breakfast on Sunday, which the kids should enjoy. Pancakes, sausage, etc. I am using the ideas the others are sending you. We always play that game that someone suggested, "I went on a trip and I brought . . .." except we say, "I went to the grocery store and I bought . . .." We do it sitting around the campfire. My son who is 12 also plays. We love that game. It's really fun for all ages.

You could always bake some cookies and let them get a movie to watch. It takes up 2 hours and is cheap.
My nieces are 10 & 11 and they like to paint fingernails and such. This could be an option.
