Good Shoes for 15 Month Old

Does anyone have any recommendations for good walking shoes to get my 15 month old twins that have just started walking? I have Robeez that i used for indoors when they were younger but need something they can wear outside. During the summer they've been walking barefoot indoors (which i know is the best way to start learning) but now with the cooler weather i need to get them regular shoes they can wear outdoors. I've heard Payless carries good walking shoes for toddlers but someone told me i had to buy a true walking shoe from Stride Rite or a more expensive type.

What can I do next?

Another vote for quality shoes. If you're worried about the cost, take a trek up to the Pleasant Prairie Outlets just over the WI border. They have a Stride Rite there, and most shoes are about 40-50% off. It's well worth the trip.

Payless and Target are great for some things, but not for a first pair of shoes. It's so important that they fit properly, and are designed to help a little one learn to walk.

Don't bother with Payless, get the good stuff. You'll be glad you did. Kids only really need one pair of shoes per season, anyway.

I agree a quality shoe at this age is a must! Stride Rite is always running specials for their shoes at the store for buy one pair, get one pair half off. You can also buy them online at zappos.com after you have your children's feet measured in the store.

I really liked the Baby Smart shoes from Target for the early walking shoes (until my kids outgrew them as they are only in the small, prewalk and starting to walk sizes...I think up to size 5 or maybe 6 as I remember). The label on them says by the makers of Stride Rite. They are just a cheaper version. They are something like $15 instead of $45 ($45 at Stride Rite store) as I remember. They had great flexibility, great support and the weighted heel like all the Stride Rite shoes. I just bought a pair of Munchkin sandels for my 3 year old for next summer on clearance at Kohl's (they are like gym shoe sandels if you know what I mean...looking like ones I've seen at Stride Rite) and that label also says by the makers of Stride Rite. I like that they have the features of Stride Rite shoes, but not so expensive. Maybe the materials are a little cheaper, but they don't need to last forever anyway as the kids outgrow them fast. I'd rather buy the cheaper version and get new for each kid not feeling like I have to stretch it so much for the cost of the shoes. So that's what I like for what it's worth. I'm personally not a fan of Payless shoes, and some of the other shoes at Target in other brands seemed like the kids would be trying to walk on boards because the soles were so stiff. I really like the Baby Smart brand at Target.

You shouldn't have to spend alot of money to get good shoes for kids. Any shoe will be fine. I've always bought shoes at Payless for my kids and they did fine.

go to stride rite so you little ones get measured properly. I have found that since my daughter started walking, she seems to need new shoes every 3 months...not sure if that's for all toddlers.

Stride Rite -- there is an outlet store in the Aurora outlet mall that carries them and they are less expensive. Don't skimp on good shoes for toddlers. I skimp on clothes and make up for it!!

Stride Rite is great!! My son has a double extra wide foot and I can only buy shoes that fit him there.

Top quality shoes are a must for toddlers. It's very important to shape their tiny feet properly. Payless doesn't carry well constructed shoes for adults let alone children. They're just more affordable. My daughter noticed when I allowed her to start picking out her own shoes with her girlfriends...she's sorry now.

I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for shoes at Stride Rite. I had her measured and then I went to payless. They had some shoes there with flexi soles. You just have to read the boxes because not all are flexible.

I 100% recommend See Kai Run shoes. Like you, I also believe that it's important for toddlers to wear the most flexible soles as possible, and that's what See Kai Run shoes are like. And they're super-cute :) -K.

Yes I agree with the moms here. Stride Rite is the best for walking shoes. Payless is not good for little ones learning how to walk. There is just no support for their little ankles. Stride Rite might be pricey but very good. You can go to the store and have them sized and then if you want you can buy them on line. E-bay, Zappo's any of these on line stores. Good luck!

Mimi
My mil found stride rite snow boots at Marshalls the other day. You can find name brand boots for a steal at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Burlington coat factory. I was prepared to spend the 35-40 bucks at stride rite for the same boot. Because they are last years and a darker pink they were 15-20 less. They go really fast and you really have to look!!

Im not sure of your style, but personally I think Stride rite makes really ugly shoes for boys, and like the first response you received, See Kai Run makes really cute, but well made walking shoes -and most of them are the same price or less expensive than Stride Rite. I think Stride Rite is way overrated, and although they will measure your feet (as will any good shoe store) the products they put out are not worth the price tag they put on them. Target sells good knock offs of their stuff, but if you want fashionable, well made, toddler walkers - I would say see kai run all the way! For boys and girls. Good luck! Happy shopping!
