I am a new sahm.. seeing as I have all of this time on my hands... Ha Ha... I was looking for suggestions for a good tv show to watch. either during the day- naptime or in the evenings.. I used to watch ER... but all the good characters left.. and I am not into the new characters.

What can I do next?

I have only been a sahm for two weeks and I hate day time TV. If you must watch it watch the food network. Or read a good book. Here is a list of just a few:

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
The Alchemist,
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Series(the movie did not do it justice)
The Red Tent-
The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette;
The Last Wife of Henry VIII

I DVR everything. With my kids schedules its far to hard. So I dvr a bunch of stuff and watch it while they are sleeping or sometimes right after I take them to school before my day begins to get hectic.
I watch "dancing with the stars",
"heroes" (more for my hubby than me)
"house"
"big bang theory"
and of course the "the law and orders"
Oh and Ghost Whisperer but I don't know if anyone agrees with me but that show has just gone over the top so I don't know how i feel about that one anymore. but you usually get a good cry every few episodes.
If you don't have DVR get it. Life saver when you have kids then watch your favorite shows while they nap or whatever. Happy show hunting.

I watch Private Practice at 9 on Wed. nights, Grey's Anatomy on Thurs nights at 9, and on Monday nights I watch How I met your mother, two and a half men, and big bang theory.

When I was at home on maternity leave, I watched a lot of Discovery Health channel during the day - they have a lot of baby birth shows. Unfortunately, most of the channels switch the shows around every once in a while during the day so just as you get a schedule down, they change!

Just be glad you're not at work like me! ;P

Yeah DVR is a MUST!! I work from home, but some days I don't have any work so I catch up on what I have recorded.

Mondays - Dancing with the Stars, Samantha Who? and The Bachelor

Tuesdays - Dancing w/ the Stars (flip back n' forth and watch Biggest Loser also). House

Wednesdays - Pushing Daisies (LOVE this show), Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money. Hubby watches Phenomenon (freaks me out) and catches reruns of Bionic Woman on Sci Fi or Bravo.

Thursdays - Survivor, Grey's Anatomy, ER and Without a Trace (I like Big Shots, but had to give my husband some primetime tv time) so I watch it online. LOL

Fridays - Next Great American Band, Men in Trees (LOVE it), Friday Night Lights (LOVE it)

Saturdays - College FOOTBALL (LOL)

Sundays - NFL FOOTBALL (LOL), Amazing Race (starts back up Sunday night). Cold Case, Desperate Housewives.

I'm a real tv junkie but no time to really watch as they are on (plus I am only ME). So DVR really helps me to be able to watch my favorite shows whenever it's convenient.

You will find, even though you aren't used to being home full time... you find plenty to keep you busy! :)

If you like ER, you'll love Grey's Anatomy! The spin off of Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice is suppose to be great. Unfortunately, I don't have time to watch it.

I really like Pushing Daisies, it's on ABC Wednesday nights at 8 pm (I usually DVR it since 8 is my daughters bedtime). I think it's a great show because it's different from anything else out right now. There's also no sex, very little violence, and no bad language. Hope this helped!

My personal favorites are

CSI - Thursday @ 9 pm
Lost - Wednesday @ 9 pm (back in February, GOOD TV if you catch up!)
Desperate Housewives - Sunday @ 9 pm
Prison Break - Monday @ 8 pm
24 - Monday @ 9 (comes in January/February, runs straight)

My parents really like Heroes
I know people who will give honorable mentions to Grey's Anatomy, Bionic Woman, & House, but I don't watch them myself.

I've also started watching Pushing Daisy's - Wednesday's @ 8, it's not too bad, and not terribly involved like Lost so you'd be able to pick it up easy.

ah yes the good old days! I guess it would depend on what you really like to watch. Just as long as you don't wake up singing Wiggles songs in the middle of the night right?! I must be alone in this but I have developed a liking for the shows my kids watch, they range in age from 15 to 5 so my shows are pretty widely spaced. We try to watch something for everyone. There aren't a whole lot of family shows on major nets are there? Keep checking the listings tho and I think you'll find one you like (btw my faves are Ace of Cakes on foodnetwork tues at 10 pm; Avatar, the Last Airbender Nickelodeon various times; and AFV whenever it is on; I also like Eureka on sci-fi but haven't watched it in so long I don't know when its on; I hear Heros is really good too).

Okay, I'm not too into Primetime TV...although I did start watching (and got hooked) on "The Unit" because my husband liked it so much. THat's on Tuesday night's at 8 on CBS.

But during the daytime I REALLY like to watch "What Not to Wear" on TLC at noon weekdays. Great show!! It's also on TLC Friday nights at 9 p.m. and I think again at 11 p.m.

When I was home on maternity I got sooooo sick of tv!! I hate Soap Operas (I'm prolly the only mom out there that hates them!) and there really isn't anything good on! But, I started watching the Food Network and HGTV and know I'm hooked! I learned soooo many great recipes from watching the cooking shows that when my daughter would go down for her second nap, I was in the kitchen baking and cooking - my husband was loving it!! ;) And, instead of watching tv, I found www.familyfun.com has a ton of cool projects, so me and my son would do little craft projects together! :)
