We are going out of town and we aren't bringing the base to our car seat, can anyone explain how to strap this car seat into the back seat with a regular seat belt?

Please and thank you. I have looked and can't find help anywhere and we leave tomorrow morning.

Thank you

This video does a nice job of explaining it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9BdYRVu90g

The narrator mentions using a "locking clip" if your vehicle was made before 1996. When our son was an infant, we had to use the "locking clip." The seatbelt in our car would want to tighten, so it would keep tightening with every movement, turn or bump. Before I knew about the locking clip, I buckled our son in an then within a few blocks noticed his careseat slowly tipping to the side because the seatbelt kept tightening. Funny now, not so funny at the time!

The "locking clip" is located on the carseat somewhere. It is a flat metal clip about 2 inches by 3 inches (I think. It's been awhile. Our youngest is 5.) If you need it (and you might), you place it around the lap belt and the shoulder strap just above the actually seatbelt clasp. It keeps the seatbelt from retracting.

This is really weird to try and describe, so I hope that video helps. It's not a terribly complicated thing to do, just really awkward to explain in a post.

If all else fails, go to a carseat check place (police station or fire station) and ask them to show you. And remember, baby goes in the carseat first, then get's buckled in.

Good luck! Enjoy your trip.

Our graco (not signature series) has a RED line along the side of the carrier at the bottom. Basically, if you set the carrier on a flat surface and look at the side profile, check to see if there is a large red line. That red line should be level with the seat in your car. Then, as the other poster indicated, you need to thread the seat belt through the hooks on the top of the carrier (located on the carrier sides near where baby's hips would be). Buckle the seat belt. Then pull the belt ALL the way out at the top and slowly let it back in to lock your car's seat belt into place.

Remember when you aren't using the base, you will have to have baby strapped into the car seat carrier BEFORE you can do the above mentioned steps. You will have to undo and redo these steps any time you need to get the baby in or out.

I know it seems obvious, but have you looked on the actual seat? Our Evenflo has a sticker with instructions on the bottom part of the seat itself.

First, pull the seatbelt ALL the way out until it won't move out any more.
Thread through belt path on carseat. You should hear a click click click as the belt loses slack. This lets you know you are locking the belt. Get all slack out as you feed seatbelt back in(put some of your weight on the seat) and get the belt tight. Tug on carseat so you know it's tight. Do not let it be lose.

Depends a bit on what kind of seatbelt you have.

I would take the base. You are carting the seat, base is that that big.
