I am 8 weeks pregnant. Went to a salon and had an all over color put on. It came out orange- I had to come back the next day to get an all over color 2x more to get it looking somewhat normal. It was ammonia and ppd free dye but I’m still scared I hurt the baby with a total of 3 hours of color on my scalp over 2 days. My ob says what is done is done! Ugh not helpful. I’m curious to hear from moms who had an all over color maybe more than once on purpose or by accident like me during the first trimester and went on to have a healthy baby!!! Thank u!

Please no sarcastic remarks like the one from the rude lady below- Suz t. This is a forum to share experiences. Please do that rather than try and make women feel small or stupid. Thank u!

What can I do next?

If it were a real concern, people would be suing don't you think? There would be warnings etc. and it wouldn't be allowed.

It's up to pregnant women to make an informed decision and to ask your doctor - now that you have, go forward with the knowledge you now possess.

I chose not to (was getting foils at the time) but I can see how if you get allover color how it would be harder. However there are alternatives if you choose not to.

so....... your OB's sensible advice is not helpful, but strangers on the internet can give you something better.

okay.

i'm sure there are moms who had an all over color maybe more than once on purpose or by accident like you (how do you accidentally get your hair colored??) during the first trimester and go on to have a healthy baby.

you're welcome.

Sorry about the snippy remarks. Ignore them...

I don't blame you for being worried at 8 weeks. That being said, I have many friends who were coloring during their pregnancies. They were in their 40's and had too much gray hair to feel comfortable letting it grow out. Their pregnancies turned out fine.

To me, more important than something like this is getting enough folic acid during the first 8 weeks in order to prevent birth defects such as neural tube defects (spina bifida) and some forms of cleft palate. If you have been taking pregnancy vitamins, that will have helped a lot.

I recommend that you google Goldwell hair color to find a colorist who uses this salon product. Goldwell is more expensive than other salon color products and more complicated to use. What that means for you is that it's a superior product, AND because it's a more complicated process, the better colorists use it. I have not had any problem with my color since I switched to Goldwell and colorists who prefer to use it. That means less mistakes and less money spent in the long run.
