Hair Style

I am new to the area, and looking for a good beautician. I have worn a hairstyle that I love, and no body seems to be able to get even close, other than my beautician of 20 years in MT. It can't be that difficult. I've tried Aveda twice and wouldn't go back. It seems they want you to tell them how to cut it. It is similar to a Dorothy Hammel, I guess. Younger girls didn't learn that cut. Short, sassy, wedge.

What can I do next?

I have the best hair stylist of all time. Not only is she great with hair, she is a great person. So nice to spend time with. She is at a little salon in the Pearl District called the A List. Her name is Nadine. If you want a phone number, email me. I have a shorter style too and she never lets me down.

I highly recommend The Colour Authority Salon - NE 111th & Halsey - Portland. Denise is the owner (hard to get an appointment with her - but she is truly an artist and can do anything color or cut --- keeps up on all the latest always.)
Monica and Shelley are also great. My sisters and I have been using this salon for nearly 20 years --- good luck!

Denice at Akemi Salon on 3808 N Williams Ave Portland, OR 97227 ###-###-#### is wonderful.

She cuts my entire family's hair, including my 65-year-old mom's hair. My mom had been going to the same place in San Francisco for over 30 years, so she was in a similar situation. Denice is great in that she will cut your hair the way you want it or she can choose something wonderful for you. It's $35 a haircut, which is entirely reasonable for the quality of cut you get.

Good luck and have fun!

P.S. They also do a really nice steam towel on your face before your cut . . . relaxing. :)

keeping in the NE, I recommend Halo Salon, 2000 NE Sandy, 97232; ###-###-####

Both Laurie Ann and Sydney have done a great job cutting my hair, and I read very positive reviews about the other stylists in citysearch.com.

I would recommend bringing a photo either of Dorothy Hamill or yourself with the cut as you like it. If they have something to look at & are good, they'll get it right. Let's not be "age-ist" with the youth here! If they don't know something it's our responsibility to educate them. ;-)

what you are looking for is someone older! not only do the young girls today probably not cut hair like that anymore, many probably don't know what a dorothy hammel is unless they do a history lesson at cosmotology school! :) i know a woman in her early 40s that cuts and colors my neighbor's hair and it's always very nice, never funky. she has a tiny salon in dowtown milwaukie on either main street or se 21 st. the salon is DeMara and the owner is deana. you should try her.

the owner of the salon i go to is also older and although she is SUPER funky, she does a lot of normal and sophisticated hairstyles. her name is crae and the salon is hello gorgeous on nw johnson and 19th.

I used to get my hair cut by Kathi at Copage Salon in Beaverton, just off HWY 26. She gave me a perfect Dorothy Hammel haircut. I didn't like it a whole lot on me, but she did it right, it just wasn't a good look for me personally. She's very nice and does a good job; my reason for not still going to her is that she's quite expensive for our budget. She charges $50 for a haircut, which I just can't justify anymore, but many of my friends still go to her and love her work! Welcome to Portland!
