Ok so I love holidays. And i love Halloween we all dress up , etc , BUT I've never gone beyond pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns .
Do any of you do lights etc. ?
What is too much? What is tacky? I have these lights that are eyes that my mom gave me and some purple lights. and these window things that look like ghosts.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much ladies!
I ended up putting the lights up in the windows and around the door. I like them!

We started dating 25 years ago on Halloween so we have a soft spot for Halloween and do decorate.

HE goes nuts. He does lights, decorations, flags, ELABORATE pumpkin carving. My husband was carving pumpkins will drills and saws 20 years ago before ANYBODY was spending more than ten minutes on pumpkin carving. HE is my Martha Stewart! People come over to see him work his magic and make their own. It's so much fun.

Yes and no. I just put out all the pumpkins we picked from the patch by the front door - that's it - but I like to spend my money on the candy to pass out. I buy specialty candy (like the bleeding fingers and eyeballs that ooze goo when you bite into it) for the neighbor kids I know personally, but the rest of the kids who are bus in who come by for T&T I give regular (but good) candy.

And for the record, whatever candy I have left over I donate to my local firehouse...so I don't eat it myself.

Every year for every holiday we over decorate the front year. I love the huge inflatables and we have a bunch of them. We do hang a few lights but not off the roof, more around the door only. I don't believe anything is too much or too tacky. The kids love it and that's why I do it. =)

Yep just finished last night! We have light up skulls that line our drive way. We have Frankenstein lights around our door, and we have a stand set up that has two light up pumpkins and two medium sized light up skulls, oh and it's surrounded by orange lights! LOL. I don't care if people think it's tacky, I LOVE Halloween and will celebrate any damn way I want to. :)

We have a happy little scarecrow from Michaels that sits on my front porch (and while we're trick or treating he hands out candy). We've got a giant green candy bowl, and we put up glow in the dark spiderwebs around our porch with big goofy spiders that my husband and eldest son picked out. We change out the porch lightbulb and put in a blacklight to make the spiderwebs look cool. I picked up a big candle at Macy's that had "eyeballs" in it, with clear gel around it. That was pretty funny, the boys liked it. Simple little things like that. We don't do the scary stuff because our children are little, and the holiday is only celebrated by us to see the other cute little kids come up to our porch. We make it silly not gross. I remember when we were little, we hung bats from the porch ceiling. I think what you have sounds just fine. You're not going for "high class" when it comes to Halloween-----the entire premise is just.....not worried about elegance. :P Just have some fun, whatever you decide to do.

My birthday is in Oct so growing up my mom did a 'little' bit of decorating on my behalf but it seriously was not much. Now, my son who is 8 LOVES Halloween, it seems to be his favorite holiday and he loves the real spooky stuff. He's autistic so to see him have such interest is awesome and we seem to be getting more and more 'spooky' decorations each year. My great room area seems to be where I focus, not so much outside, but with my son, by next year you may see a graveyard with mist in my front yard:)

We LOVE Halloween! We decorate inside and out, but not over the top. Outside, you have to walk up a flight of steps to get to our front door, so we put orange lights all along the railing. I also have three lighted pumpkin pathway markers in the front and a light up ghost and pumpkin in two of the windows. My kids love it, so thats why we do it.

Most of my decorations are just fall stuff, but some of it is specifically Halloween. I just have a handfull of Halloween things that I hang around our front door and we usually do a jack-o-lantern.

I can't really think of any Halloween decorations that I find too tacky. The only thing that really bothers me is when people leave their Halloween decorations up too long. We have a particular house in our neighborhood that leaves their Halloween decorations up until after Christmas most years.

<grin> OH yeah ...

Jack'o'lanterns, skeletons, spiderwebs, haybales, purple lights along the windows, paintings on the glass (tempera), spiderwebbing, bats, sugar skulls (technically dia de los muerte), dry ice, tombstones, "ornament" tree (a super squiggly branch spraypainted black), labels on bottles, pyrex...

I go for the haunted house look outside, and halloween party inside. I would LOVE to live on a theme street (but don't).

Overall, the effect is kinda Martha Stewart meets Tim Burton.

I'm trying to figure out how to get a cheshire cat in my tree. I need lights that fade. Just the slit eyes and smile. I'm all about it.

It's kind of a "waste" though... we live on a super busy street and we're the only ones with kids, and our house is too little for parties. So it's just for my own enjoyment.

Halloween is my favorite holiday! We go all out when decorating! We have things flying in the trees, a whole grave yard on the side of the house. Some motion detector figurines hanging by the sidewalk. Window clings and lights ( we only have two downstairs windows that face the road). If done correctly it looks cute and is fun to do!

What you have sounds cute to put in your window.

I have always loved Halloween! My boys are now 16 and 17 but they still ask when I am going to decorate the house. I have a lot that I do inside in every room, from decorations to lights to figures and even masks all around. It's not tacky, it's fun! We do a little outside and carve 3 or 4 pumpkins to set out. I would do way more if we had the money to blow on stuff. I can't wait to buy the candy too. We get tons and tons of trick or treaters, so we go through 2 huge bowls of candy, plus my boys (yes, they still trick or treat, lol!) will come home halfway through to dump their goods and I go through it quick to take out the things we don't eat to put into the outgoing bowls. Love, love, love Halloween!

The majority of my decorations are "fall" items that can be kept out until Thanksgiving. Orange lights on the porch, pumpkins, scarecrows, wreaths. But I do add a few Halloween items. We have spider webs, a skeleton, the creepy eyes, some fake spiders in the web and some others. My husband takes the boys to the Halloween Party store every year and they each get to pick out one new item to decorate with.

When I grew up my mom would go overboard with every holiday. The house would be decked out completely for whatever the celebration was, right down to decorative soap dishes in the bathrooms, hand towels, window clings, lights, etc.
I don't go that overboard, but when I moved out on my own I did sort of miss the decorations. Seeing it totally gets you in the spirit and mood. So I do decorate. We don't have a lot of outside stuff just for fear it would be stolen. I have things in the windows (clings), pumpkins (outside and in), a few halloweenish things scattered through out the house. I totally want to get lights and string them up in our big front window.
I say have fun with it!

I just don't have the time to do it all. We enjoy carving the pumpkins and dress up and trick or treating but that's about it.

But I love to see what other people do - so please go for it. Halloween is FUN!!

No, I do fall and a tiny bit of Halloween stuff (mostly pumpkins). I'm not a big fan of the tombstones, scary statues, cob webs, witches, etc.

halloween is my son's favorite holiday- even over christmas! This year
(he's 4) we did buy some lights and the fake grave stones and spider webs for the outside of the home. We have a lit spider and spookey tee as well. He loves it and is so excited about it. I was laughing with my husband about it though and told him if we are doing this much for halloween, we really have to do it up for christmas! it looks really cute though.

We love Halloween; but, we don't have the money to be able to buy all the wonderful decorations out there. We do get a couple more things every year to add to our collection.
This year, we have our Twylites up and they will be running orange, purple, black and white. We're so excited!!
Check out the site: www.twylites.com or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9aaLmQCW8c

They're fabulous; you never have to hang Halloween or Christmas lights ever again! And you can make them as subtle or as obnoxious as you like!
Happy Halloween!

I love to get the after haloween clearance lights. I love the purple and pink ones for backyard parties and bbqs. I might buy a few haloween window clings at the dollar store, just cuz they're fun for the kids to play with.

loathe halloween decorations. Find most holiday decorating cheesy unless its christmas or you spend some good money on your decorations (which I refuse to do). Christmas is it for me. If I do its just fall pumpkins nothing grotesque.

I have a lot of really lovely Jim Shore decorations (my birthday is in October, so my husband has bought them as gifts over the years--they're very pretty, tasteful, and I love putting them out). I have small kids so don't want to do anything scary (and plenty of friends who hate Halloween!) so I stick to pumpkins on the porch, sometimes my purple lights around the door, harvesty stuff inside like leaves, pumpkins, etc. and a table runner if the kids leave it alone. Someday we would love to have proper Halloween parties in our house (if/when we buy a house and have room!) and go all out with lights inside and out, cobwebs, etc. I think some if it is fun, but again am sensitive to my kids and will not decorate with anything frightening for them.

I think it is fun to see people do up their homes for holidays. Graveyards in the front yard are fun, lights, owls, bats, spiders, eery noises, etc. Personally, I wouldn't want to go by a house where I felt I'd need my kids to look the other way, but I try to have fun with Halloween and my kids get very excited even about tacky decorations. :)

My Halloween indoor decor last year.
http://littlelovables.blogspot.com/2010/10/homefront-spar...

I don't do much scary, but I do like to have fun with it. I remove the Halloween stuff and focus on the fall decorating in November. The eye ball and purple lights actually sound kind of fun. I will do a little more this year outside, I usually save money by getting things on clearance after the holidays.

I do it..mines up already (did it saturday). I have 1 set of orange lights that wrap my kitchen window looking out while I wash pans, I have a flying bat that hits my hubbys head every morning and a floor matt that screams if is stepped on. I also do window treatments. they are like plastic spooky themes you hang IN the windows and people driving by can look at your scary house..mmmmuuuaahhh ha ha ha. The stuff I have, folds up really small so it doesnt take up much storage. as far as the pumpkins...we buy them at a pumpkin patch after making it a family day in the corn maze or hayrack ride...carve them and pitch them after Halloween..I hate storing big bulky things.
