Have Any of You Had Post Menopausal Bleeding?

I am 53 and have not had a period for 2 years.
I've had light vaginal bleeding for the last two days. I wasn't worried about the bleeding until I read some articles online that say it can be due to uterine cancer or polyps. I'm going to call a GYN doctor tomorrow, but it is too late to call or see one today. I'm feeling a little nervous right now. For those of you who have had this experience, would you please share your stories and outcomes. I really appreciate it.

What can I do next?

My mother has experienced this a few times, and it has been due to polyps every time. In fact, she just recently had a couple more removed. They have always been benign, but it is rather scary until you get a definite all clear. Until you have more information, don't panic, but definitely don't put off getting it addressed, either.

My MIL did too (in her early 70's?) and nothing came of it. She's 80 now.

I did. It was nothing. I quit bleeding at about age 51, went for an entire year, then all of a sudden there was blood for a couple of days. I got scared naturally. doc said it was normal. Havent bled since and now I'm 55. DO NOT MISS THE BLOOD, but do miss my youth. Damn.

I'm glad you're going to the gyn. I think what she will do is order an endrometrial biopsy. It's not bad - I've had one. Sometimes the endrometrial lining cells start to "change", and they want to know if it's a precancerous condition. Mine were termed as "disordered" and I haven't had any trouble since.

You should also have bloodwork done to check your hormone levels. That's good info for the doctor.

Try not to worry!

I went a year without a period and then began to have periods again. My doctor did a biopsy and a sonogram. I had large fibroid tumors and several cysts. Also thickening of the uterine lining and my uterus was enlarged. My biopsy came back negative, but I had to come in for regular sonograms and a few more biopsies, just to be sure. After a year of no improvement - random bleeding that ranged from a few days to two weeks, spotting to full out bleeding and fibroid tumors that continued to grow, the doctor recommended a hysterectomy. I was preparing to go an a trip, so I decided to wait until I got back. Suddenly things seemed to improve, so I put off having the surgery. Six months later, things got worse again, so I had the surgery. No big deal. It was done vaginally, so I was only in the hospital overnight. Technically, six weeks recovery, but I felt fine after a few days. Couldn't convince my family that I needed any more pampering! lol Never any indication of cancer or pre-cancerous cells.

There are many reasons for your situation and most are not serious, but you definitely need to have it checked out. Good luck and I hope you have a positive outcome.

I had the same experience recently. I had a period after not having one for more than a year. It made me a little nervous but I'm just going to wait and see if anything else odd happens. It's good you're going to the Dr to get checked out if for no other reason than to put your mind at ease. Best of luck, hope all is well.
