My husband is taking me to Miami this weekend, for my birthday! I have been all over Florida however, have never been to Miami (South beach area). Looking for ideas on things to do (besides relaxing at the beach), and places to eat!! We are "foodies", and enjoy going out to great places for dinner.

Thanks, A. L

The one place I went to in Miami Beach that still stands out in my mind is the mall near the port where the cruise ships dock. I can't remember the name of the street...it's been years but for some reason Biscayne Bay keeps coming to mind? Or a street that starts with a B? Anyway, if you drive through Miami Beach like you're going to the port, the mall is like the last place you'll see before you start going uphill towards the port. I absolutely loved it. There was this one particular shop I loved going into but I can't remember the name of it and it may not even be there anymore, but it was a big fossil shop and I'll never forget the sea serpent skeleton draped across the ceiling that was found in a farmer's field in Kansas! I think the shop was called "God's" something...?? Anyway...cool place! Have fun :)

I father in law went down there with his new wife and she said that south beach is horrible, she hated it. She said there was alot of drugs and things like that.

I use to live in Miami. So maybe I can help. Definetly eat at a Cuban Restaurant...they are delicious! La Carretta and Versailles are the most famous they are not on S.Beach but they are worth traveling into actual Miami to eat in. Definetly go to Bayside and catch one of those Celebrity house boat site seeing tours..they are lots of fun to do. There is a lot to do in S.Beach and you will not be disappointed.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me I lived in Miami for 24 years and my family still lives there :)

I've been to South Beach only once (2 years ago) and had a blast! My sister and I went down there for Spring Break. I do remember that we ate at a seafood restaurant that was fantastic but I can't remember the name of it. However, whenever we asked a local for some ideas, that's what they gave us. South Beach is great for dancing and general staying out late as the bars are open until 5:00am. Some of the places are a little too Sex and the City for my taste but we had fun nonetheless. Oh, and you might be forewarned that the beaches are topless. That caught us off guard! Have fun!
