Hi. Does anyone have any good snack recipes, that do not contain peanut products or choclate? My daughter is in pre-school and the kids take turns bringing in snacks for the class. I want something that she and I can make(that way it's fun for her)but it can not have any peanuts or chocolate due to allergies. Any good ideas?

What can I do next?

I don't know any recipes off hand, but I do use a book called "Super Baby Food" that is filled with snack recipes, as well as other food ideas. I got it a Barnes & Noble.

Hi T.-
I have a great book called Feed Me I'm Yours which has a few tasty snack recipes.

Cereal Sticks

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour (white or whole wheat-or combo)
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup plus of cereal (such as Grapenuts, granola, etc)

Blend the first 6 ingredients together plus 1/4 cup of the cereal. If the dough is too soft, add more flout. Roll a small piece of dough into a stick and roll the stick in the extra cereal to coat. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 for 8 mins. or until slightly browned.

Oatmeal Bars

2 cups uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar
dash of baking soda

Boil sugar, butter and baking soda. Add oatmeal and mix well. Spread mixture in a well greased 8 inch square pan and bake at 350 for 10 mins. Cut into bars while warm. **Seems you could make this better with an addition of raisins or maybe even some small apple pieces)

Bite of Apple Cookies

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup apples-peeled, cored and finely chopped.

Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Combine dry ingred. w/ creamed mixture. Add apples. Drop by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10-15 mins.

These seem to be the only snack recipes without pb or chocolate besides celery w/ cream cheese as mentioned before.

I used to have to cater to children's parties, and I have gads of snack recipes. You can email me at ____@____.com for more, but here's an easy one for you to do with your daughter, that I do with my 4 yr old daughter.

Soft Pretzels

2 - 16 oz loaves of frozen bread dough
1 egg white, slighly beaten
1 tsp water
Coarse salt

Separate thawed bread into 24 - 1 1/2" balls. Roll each ball into a rope 14 1/2" loong. Have children plan and design pretzel shapes (traditional, letters, or numbers). Put pretzels one inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Let stand for 20 minutes and brush with combined egg white and water. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Place a shallow pan containing 1" of boiling water on bottom rack of oven; bake pretzels at 350 degrees on rack abouve water for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

How about a parfait? You can use organic yogurt, fruit and nut-free granola to layer into a delicious snack. Use clear plastic cups to show the layers...A.

Not the most Health but not the worst either why not rice crispy treats. You could buy organic rice crispies and if anyone has a milk allegry I think they make soy based marshmallows.
Hope this helps.

I had children with food allergies too. One of their favorite snacks was a twist on an old favorite....Ants on a log. We had raisins and dates on celery with Cream Cheese instead of peanut butter. The also loved to bring in fresh apples with cream cheese and honey dip. I would come in with the apple cutter, so they were freshly cut and not the rusty brown from being cut before hand. If you have to cut them before school, try dipping them in lemon or orange juice to keep the color fresh. Strawberries, carrots, cheese, or yogurts were always popular too. Don't forget the spoons!

T.,
Goodmorning. There are many snack ideas out there that do no have peanut butter or chocolate in them. The first few that pop into my mind would be the obvious fruits and veggies. A way to make it more fun would be to find some new fruits and veggies that the class can try together and have you and your daughter cut them up with cookie cutters to make some fun shapes. You could do something like ant on a log with cream cheese instead of the peanut butter and cheese and crackers is a popular one at my daughters Head Start. I'm constantly checking out sites that have ideas as well. You could google it and find tons of sites that will give you fun and creative snack ideas. I like to use www.familyfun.com a lot. Hope this helps, have fun and be creative I'm sure you guys will come up with something fun and yummy.

Hello,
I also use Family fun for recipes. They have a good muffin recipe w/ a struesel topping. My boys love putting the topping on before we put them in the oven. Gives them a chance to participate. I make extras to freeze too! Good luck!

HI! I make oatmeal raisin cookies, my kids love them. They are easy to make and I came up with my own recipe. There are recipes at nickjr.com and familyfun.go.com have many. I also have tried fruit salad cups, using oj to keep apples from turning brown. I hope this helps...
