hi moms... every time i step on my heel it feels like i'm stepping on a little pebble or something. there is a blister-like callous there... i'm wondering what i should do about it? i thought about trying to pop/drain the blister or get the rock out if there is something in there, or scrubbing it with a pumice stone............ but the last thing i want to do is make it worse... any idea what it is or how i can treat it? i'm nursing so i don't want to take pain meds... are there any topical things i can put on it?

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
I sounds like a plantar's wart to me. I have had those and what you are describing sounds familiar. If it is, there may be some over the counter wart medicine for that type of wart. Just a thought, I hope it gets better soon!

ask your doctor - you can probably take Tylenol... my doctor always said - anytime I asked during my pregnancy and breastfeeding - that Tylenol won't bother the baby. I don't usually need pain meds. but that was something he never seemed to mind if I took.

another hint... Echinacea is a great pill you can take to boost your immune system... I used it when I was nursing... I think the bottle says to check with your doctor before using.

now to your heel pain.... it sounds like heel spurs! OUCH! my mom used to have to deal with that pain... we were just talking about this the other night at church... one of the ladies had had surgery a while back on one of her heel spurs - but didn't suggest to do that. If it is a blister, it might be something different... I don't think blisters go with heel spurs.

hope this helps a little,
R.

Does the bump have little bubble looking dots on it? If it does you have a planters wart and you can purchase the Dr. Scholl's Freeze away to remove it. If there is something in it try soaking your feet in some epsom salts or using drawing salve. I would not use a pumice stone on it as that will be painful. If you can you should see a podiatrist.

sounds more like a heel spur. and sometime the best way to take care of it is to get a shot ,but after the shot it helps so much belive me. look under foot doctors in the yellow pages there are a lot of good ones out there , I have had many of them and many surgreys in my feet but it does help good luck with it .

Could be a couple of things....My first instinct is
1. Heel spur - check some online recommendations
2. Calcium deposit (I have several in my right foot, but not at my heel) Normally they aren't painful, but the area where they are located could possibly make a difference if there is repeated pressure in the spot.
3. Go to the EGOSCUE website and pull off a couple of e-cises for foot pain. This method WORKS!!!!! If your problem is improper alignment/joint loading on the foot and ankle, this WILL help!!

There is also a book called PAIN FREE by Pete Egoscue that is VERY user friendly. Check at Half Price Books or Amazon. WORTH HAVING IN YOUR REFERENCE LIBRARY!!!

You may make it much worse by popping and probing in addition to a possible infection. I have had heel spurs which really hurt and feel like there is something stabbing in your foot.I did not have any outward sign on my foot however. It took an xray to see what was going on. A heel spur is a small sliver of bone thta has "slivered " away from larger bone. I have given myself a serious infection by probing and popping so be careful.

I would go to your primary care Doctor and have him/her check it out. You probably cut your heel and got something embedded in there. It may need to be lanced and drained to find what that real problem is, the doctor can use a local to numb you and it should not affect your breast milk. I had a piece of broken glass in my heel for 3 months before I finally had it removed, talk about pain.

It sounds to me like a plantar wart. (Hard callous-like spot that you cannot rub off with pumice stone- it goes deeper than that.) You will probably have to see a podiatrist. They can do acid treatment, which burns off a layer at a time, you have to keep going back every week, but it doesn't hurt much; you can get it cut out or frozen off, both of which hurt more for a week or two, but then it's GONE. I have had many of these over the years and now thankfully am done with them. I haven't had any in over 5 years. If you notice it getting bigger, if it's more bothersome, or if you notice new little ones- you really need to see a podiatrist to get plantar warts taken care of.

try getting a pepsi bottle fill with water and freeze then put on floor and roll under your foot see if this eases the pain - a lady told me about this once for foot pain and said it helped. It's worth a try :)

It may be a heal spur. Those are very painful.
Worse when you first get up better on carpet than on hard floors. It could also be a planters wart.
google or bing search for ideas on how to ease the pain.

I had the same thing before and it turned out to be a plantar's wart. You may want to show it to your doctor next time you are in the office. There usually is a simple home procedure you can do to get rid of it and it won't interfere with breast feeding. Good luck.

You need to go to Podiatrist. It could be a heel spur or a type of wart. Meanwhile, get some squishy shoe inserts to take the pressure off.

Try a drawing salve. Bag Balm usually works....bandage over it and try not to put weight on your heel for a day or two. If it's a splinter this may help. If not I don't think draining it would hurt. (no pun intended!) Could it be a Planters wart? They usually go away in time or a Podiatrist could take care of it at any time. Hope this helps.
