My one year old son currently is allergic to soy and peanuts. For the most part, I prepare his lunch, dinner and breakfast at home. However, on the occasions that I don't have time to cook I need to find some soy free staples such as: pancake batter, waffles, tater tots, crackers, chicken nuggets. Also, he is becoming very picky and refuses to eat my oatmeal, waffles or pancakes. Does anybody have a list of soy free foods? please advise.

Hi C.,

Try going to Whole Foods or Mrs. Greens Health Food Stores. They carry Soy Free products like pancake mix, cookie mix and much more. You can find Soy Free Chicken nuggets from a company called Ian's. They are the only ones that I found so far. Also be careful with Nathan's hot dogs because they have soy as one of the ingredients.

Take care.

C.,
When you do make those foods, make them in double, triple and quadruple batches, and freeze them.

Frozen pancakes are a very good remedy for TEETHING, we have found.

Just keep being vigilant, writing things down as you find them, and you will have a list tailored to your baby.

Most items are very well demarcated as to where they were processed and what with (soy, milk, peanuts, etc).

Good luck!

Hello, my child is allergic to milk eggs and soy. A lot of products now say they are dairy, soy free. So look for that. I have not found chicken nuggets yet, unless you make your own. Cherrybrook kitchen is a name brand, and they make cookies, cakes, brownies without any of that stuff. Hannofords, price chopper and walmart all have it. Also, Bob's red mill has pancake and bread mixes. I believe with nothing in it as well, I am not sure about nuts, I don't know if there are other names for it. This was all in the organic section of the store. Also, there is rice milk to mix things in, mine is 15 month old so that is what we use. She loves it. There are lots of cereals. My suggestion to you is go to the store with out the kids and start looking at things. Write tehm down and have a list, this way you will know. Hope this helps and take care.

My 3 yo son is also allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and soy. From everything I've read about the soy allergy, it is generally safe for them to have things that have 'soy lecithin' in it. The soy lecithin is a binder, used in lots of foods, but its been processed so much that there isn't any protien left, which is what causes the allergy/reaction. The same is true for soybean oil, so refined and processed that there is virtually no protien left. My son has been eating crackers, chicken nuggets, etc. that have these things in them since he was able to eat table foods. The biggest thing we noticed is that if he has anything that has soy protien (like chinese food), his eczema flares up. Try looking at www.kidswithallergies.org and www.allergicchild.com

Check Trader Joes. I don't buy any of the specific things you mentioned, but my husband has a soy allergy and we have found that many of Trader Joes products do not contain soy. Dr. Praegers fish sticks are also safe. Good luck!

The easiest way to avoid soy is to just not use packaged foods. It's a lot easier to just eat fruit, veggies, eggs, meat, etc.

If you feel like you need mixes or processed foods, why not make your own some weekend or when you have a bit of time? You can make pancake and waffle mix and bag it so you can just add liquid when you need it.

It doesn't take long to make chicken nuggets from scratch and freeze them. You can buy stir fry chicken that's already cut up to save time. At least you'll know you're not eating some neuro-toxic food additives. Chicken nuggets are loaded with chemicals.

If you're running low on time, enlist your husband or 12 year old for help, either with the food prep or looking after the little ones.

I really never spend much time in the kitchen at all and since I stopped eating junk food, it's a lot easier. Stir fries, salads with rice or millet and veggies, egg and veggie dishes, etc can all be done in 10-30 minutes. Yesterday I watched a video of someone making "energy soup" which is a raw veggie soup. It took about 6 minutes for four servings! Packed with nutrients too.
