So What Happened?

@Megan and @Mira he was on the casein and gluten free diet for almost a year but we didn't notice a change and could be very costly ....Although i have heard that it has worked with other children with autism i guess just not for my lil guy but thank you for your insight:)!
@Jennifer Glad to hear your lil one is well now! The docs told us he has a lot of fluid between his ears...he's had 5 ear infections in 4 months and he's got so a high pain threshold sometimes we won't even know when he has one until and this is half the time when he picks at his ears!
@momof2 thank you for your suggestion and i will definitely look into this doc thanks!!
@rebeca Thank you will consider looking into a chiropractic and seeing exactly what they do it interests me as it doesn't involve surgery...
@shaneb Thanks so much for sharing Shane! I will take your advise and do my research on each doc and see which one my son likes.. Also support groups are a great idea I've never been to one I'm sure there is me here in as for autism thank you:)
And he goes to developmental special needs preschool started this year

This is my first question as a mamapedia member and i want to thank you all soo much for your advice and suggestions. Right now im looking into all avenues and will start doing my research with the suggestions I've been given!:)

Try a chiropractic adjustment, it helped my son when he was just five.....he had ear infections all the time. After the adjustment, he never had another ear infection. He is now 45 years old.

I don't know any ENT in AZ (I am in WI), but my best friend's daughter had chronic ear infections (she is only 3 and ALWAYS had them)...and they took away dairy and have seen a HUGE improvement. She still can have a little bit of yogurt, cheese, ice cream. But they took away cow's milk and now do soy and the results have been amazing. According to my friend's research, dairy causes mucus and that mucus can settle in your ear and that is what causes/leads to infection. The constant mucus causes the infection to never completely heal - or something to that affect (we are not drs). Might be something to look into/try??
Good luck!

Everything Megan said, I say too. That's exactly what we did with my son, and it was the only thing that helped with his ear infections.

I have also heard of dairy-free diets being helpful with autistic children. I want to say this carefully, since it's NOT a cure, but I've heard of cases where cutting out dairy helps with behavioral issues.

I don't know of any Drs. to help in the area..

But my oldest had chronic ear infections. He was on antibiotics for 3 months straight to "prevent" them and still got ear infections. He was immune to 2 different types of antibiotics by the age of 18 months.

My grandma suggested a chiropractor. I took him to the chiropractor 2x ( one week apart) and it wasn't until he was 13 when he got his next ear infection or chiropractor appt.

When any of my other 4 kids got an ear infection, I took them to the chiropractor before giving them any antibiotics and the infection cleared up on it's own.

I would find a chiropractor who works on children as well as adults and if nothing else get a consult visit before working on your son if your worried about it and then see how you feel after talking with them.

Good luck!

I can't advise you in AZ, but my friend has been going through this with her youngest daughter. She's been on antibiotics for the last three months.
She is scheduled to get tubes in her ears in March.

Definitely find a specialist and one who has experience with special needs children. Hopefully, you will find one that your son adores and trusts.

My daughter was terrified of dentists. All the specialists weren't able to get anywhere with her. She literally wouldn't even open her mouth. I found a great dentist who didn't necessarily "specialize" in children and she warmed right up to him. She was cooperative, drew him pictures and insisted on taking him a sandwich when we went. There was something that just clicked for her.

You may have to get through some consultations before you find a doctor that your little one is comfortable wth. But it's worth it.

Is your son in pre-school? Do you have autism support groups in your area?
They might be able to recommend someone for you.

Best wishes.

My 1 year old son had TONS of ear infections & we were referred to Dr Simms at AOC by Phoenix Children's Hospital. I think they have different locations, but we saw him at 57th Ave & Thunderbird. He was wonderful. Turns out my son had a lot of fluid in his ear & ended up needing tubes. The doctor was great & we haven't had an ear infection since.

Dr. Raines is excellent doctor, he has operated on my youngest daughter and my husband. We found him after doing an extensive search looking for an ENT. One of his partners, Dr. Simms, operated on my oldest daughter, we didn't like him as well.
We know several adults and children who have seen him and everyone raves about him.
