I second Brandy's recommendation. PLEASE AVOID DR. MECH!!! I also agree with Mamabug. Dr Scott Woods in Plano is very good. He took my child off of all the meds Dr Mech gave her. Within two weeks she is a completely different child. She is now so happy her teachers have come to me multiple times telling me how much she has improved. She even received a good behavior award. I also recommend Center for Biblical Counseling in Mckinney. We see Teri Mills-Manuel for Counseling. She has two boys and my daughter loves her. Hope this helps.

Please don't do meds. My son was diagnosed with anxiety and ADHD, we put him on meds for 2 years and suffered the consequences. He needs to learn to deal with these issues without meds. I have anxiety disorder as well (with panic attacks) and trust me, it is better to know how to cope alone! Please call Mahnaz Sadre in Frisco ###-###-####, she has worked wonders with my son! Everyone notices a difference, even his teachers. She has taught us so much! I highly recommend her!
What ever you do do not see Dr. Meck in Plano, he won't even talk to you 3 minutes before he pulls out his Rx pad!
I wish you the very best of luck!PM me if you need more info!

Our pediatrician, Dr. Scott Katz, recommends Laura Hawk. I think she may actually be a pshchologist. I took my son to her when he was three and she is great! She has children and young grandchildren of her own. She is located in that glass building behind Park Place Lexus on Preston and George Bush. Good luck!

D.,

I like Dr. Scott Woods in Plano near the Tollway and Parker ###-###-####). He sees adults and children. He has 2 kiddos of his own. He has been my psychiatrist for over a year.

I highly recommend a combination of counselor and psychiatrist as well. The dr won't have a lot of time for talking but the counselor will. Do interview several b/c they have different specialties and personalities.

My son had anxiety and emotional issues. The psychiatrist did nothing except give him pills which we didn't end up using. I would look for a counselor who can recommend a psychiatrist if needed. We did use a counselor who specializes in play therapy at the Lewisville Counseling Center on Edmonds Ave. Her name was Heather and within about 10 visits he was able to deal with his anxiety on his own. Hint: I interviewed three counselors at other locations with my son there and asked his opinion before I chose Heather. We agreed on each choice and it helped make him feel part of his healing process right from the beginning. You have to pay for an initial consultation but it is worth it. I also attended the first few sessions but my son was only 8 at the time so that may not work for you. Hang in there and remember love will get you through.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not send him to a psychiatrist! The only thing they are trained to do is drug your child. This will lead to more issues and serious health concerns. Check out www.gearingup.com. Dr. Sylvia Gearing is fantastic and will treat you, your child and your family with the utmost respect, without drugs and you'll see fantastic results. She's even in Plano! Good luck and God Speed.

Dr. Missimo off of Plano Parkway, west of Preston. His phone number is ###-###-####. He has been a lifesaver for us and came very highly recommended. He is a strong Christian, has three rambunctious boys and really cares about his patients. Feel free to tell them that I referred you if it helps you get an appointment quicker.

Hi D....I am a child therapist (non-practicing due to staying home with my 3 yr.old)...are you
looking for an evaluation for your son for medication? I personally don't know of any pedi psychiatrists in our area..
if you haven't already I can refer you to a great play therapist who can work with your child's anxiety and emotional
issues. When I was practicing I worked w/ kiddos who were victims of crimes and many of my young clients suffered from severe anxiety and obvious emotional trauma..through play therapy and working with the family system I saw great results w/ little or no assistance from meds. Another source you might want to look into is EMDR, which is a great short term therapy for dealing with many different kinds of anxiety..we have a great network of EMDR therapists here in N. Texas. Get online and go the the main webpage: www.emdr.com It is mostly geared to therapists, but there is a section for clients and after you read the literature about EMDR..you can also find local therapist through the website. I hope I'm not being too invasive..I'm sure you are very frustrated...if you want the referral to the play therapist let me know. I might through some of my old colleagues be able to find a psychiatrist that specializes in kids as well... Good luck!

Absolutely do not go to David R. Missimo. He does not listen, he is arrogant, totally discounts the mother's opinion and has no time to spend. He only knows what the pharmaceutical sales reps tell him. Totally knows nothing about the side effects and doesn't care how bad they are. I'm wondering how many trips to Hawaii he goes on on the drug company's dime, because that is all he is interested in. he only wants to push drugs. sad and unethical. I will never go to him again. He's a fast talker but doesn't answer the questions. Thinks he is one of those high and mighty doctors and that the parents don't know. Avoid him! There are good doctors in DFW but this is the worst.

My good friend is an excellent therapist.
Chico West

He went to SMU with me, and has been a therapist in the Park Cities for over a decade. Very discrete, family man and strong christian. He specializes in addiction, so not sure if this is what you need. But he has been a therapist for years, and could help with a referal mostlikely, if he can't treat your son. He recently started a new business, so I don't know if he takes individual clients anymore. Above address may not be current. Chico co-founded a halfway house a year or so ago, because the need was so great. Here is the website:www.lifeforcedallas.com You can read all about Chico on the website and see his picture. The best guy in the world.
