Help with Scrapbooking

I love the idea of doing a scrapbook and have been working on my wedding album for 2 years. I am kind of just fumbling along-have never gone to a class or anything. I really want to finish this album and do albums for my children (2 year old) and one due in June. Right now my stuff is in a box in the basement and I feel like I am at a loss as to how to proceed. I work full time so I have a hard time fitting in time for scrapbooking. Would a workshop help? I also don't want to put a lot of money into supplies yet. Any advice on finally finishing this project would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi J.!

I am an avid or lets just be honest and say addicted scrapbooker :) My friends and I belong to a club that meets every 6 weeks through Close To My Heart (an at home sales distributer like Creative Memories). We also do 3 scrapbooking weekend retreats a year, Fri to Sun.

Personally I would suggest you go to crops at local scrapbooking stores. If you need anything, they'll have it. Plus they have tools for you to use so you don't have to buy them. I know you said you where in Madison Heights, and I don't know what stores are by you?? But at 21 and Hayes there is Scrapbook Emporium and they have crops during the week and on weekends. Some of the stores also have free crop time on Sundays...

Or, how about an all day crop? That would for sure jump start you :) Sometimes the schools have them as a fundraiser, I just did one this past weekend. You can check your local paper for listings, they are usually found in the section of the paper where they list spaghetti dinner fundraisers and stuff.

Okay last but not least you can join a scrapbooking club on Yahoo Groups. I have met some terrific ladies this way and now we scrap together all the time!!

Good Luck!

Hi there J.,
I live in Royal Oak and have scrapbooked for many yrs. now. It was 9 yrs after my Wedding when I finally completed my Wedding album. So hang in there! The only way I get anything done, is when I attend a work shop or a gathering with friends away from home! With 3 kids and working from Home there is no free time. You have to take it when you can! I usually meet with one of the groups I scrapbook with at my consultant's home ( however she is in Utica). She taught me the basics on organization, cropping what and how , choosing formats and how to get things done quick vs. using too many time consuming activities or embellishments etc. She lets me use her tools for free! I only buy what I need for the time being. Occasionally, I get a chance to meet with other moms from school at the church. We share tools and often exchange materials as needed.
I have been married 16 yrs and have 3 kids (12,7,3). So I have a lot of photos and stuff that have not made it into albums yet, but they are in acid free storage boxes, chronologically organized.I did the same with any memorabilias that go along with the pictures. Also organized as to which album they will be put in! That's a time saver for when I finally get to them.
so far I got 3 baby albums done till 2nd. birthday and started a school book for the two grade schoolers. Then I have a family album, a travelalbum and heritage album in progress though none are up to date.
I found out about a store in Clawson where you can either attend a workshop or on many Sunday afternoons you can just show up and take up space to work on your albums at NO CHARGE! The place is: I Luv Scrapbooking

I'm in the same situation! My wedding scrapbook is still uncomplete nearly 5 years later. I'm due in April and have started my baby's scrapbook already by going to a Friday night workshop - 4-12 p.m. I'm just creating the pages and then will add photos as we take them. So, I suggest going to a workshop where they let you use their supplies for the cost of the workshop. That way, you have their supplies...and if you need paper or embellishments, you can purchase them as you go...while you're there :)

I discovered that ordering and creating a book online at shutterfly.com is so much cheaper than creating a scrapbook with paper and photos that I will probably never make a scrapbook again. It is professional looking and SO MUCH EASIER than cropping pictures by hand and pasting with mattes and embellishments. I made one for my daughter and at less than $40 I have an amazing book, with captions, pictures and such cute pages. If I were you, I would probably finish the wedding one, and try the electronic one for the kids. A friend of mine did one for her two year old with the ABC's as the theme so each page is a letter of the alphabet and has a picture of her daughter with something of that begins with that letter. Her daughter LOVES it and shows it to everyone who comes over.
