Help...Can't Keep 2.5 Yr Old Twin Boys Diapers On !!!

My twin boys are continually pulling off diapers at naptime and bedtime. We have been potty training, so I know they don't want a diaper on once they've gone in it, they want it off and to sit on the potty. However at naptime and bedtime I have used duck tape on their diaper (they pull them off like pull-ups. I've tried putting them in zip front pj's with a snap (they figured out how to undo those). A friend suggested overalls...

Any other ideas? I had to change one of my twins sheets twice yesterday because he pooped, then took it off, then when the new diaper went on, he tore that off and peed in the crib???

Going crazy...what else can I do??

G.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your suggestions ladies, well yesterday I put overalls on them for their nap as well as over their pj's last night and they worked! I also got some underwear and put those over their diaper, I think they got so excited about those they forgot about the diaper. they start pre-school tomorrow, where they also potty train, so I think it's going to come much quicker now! Matthew went into my bathroon yesterday, puuled off his diaper which has poop in it and sat on my toilet, wiped himself and was flushing the toilet when I walked in (he was so proud of himself)!! Dylan is a little slower at this, he loves to get on the potty, wipe and flush, he doesn't GO as much but he loves the process !

Thanks again everyone...I think we're on our way!
I think we might do the "boot camp" one of these weekends and see how it goes !

G.,

Try putting their diapers on backwards. Hopefully, the reach will fristrate them enough that they leave it alone if they cannot see where the diaper is attached at. If that does not work, duct tape the diaper and put in on backwards. Hopefully that will make it too difficult for them.

Take care,

Angela

LOL!!! My twin boys did the exact same thing! God it drove me crazy! They are 4 now but it's funny to think about it now tho! I know your pain. Im new to this website, dont know how it works...are we located near eachother, the central coast?

Here are the things I did. Put zip front jammies on backwards. This required me to cut off the feet so they could fit somewhat normal. So I used their old thrashed fleece ones. When it was hot i put them in a onesie (backwards) if you can find them big enough. When on backwards the snaps for the onesie are higher up the backside. That seemed to do the trick. But just in case that doesnt work, you could do both since it is winter. Also, if that doesnt work try cloth diapers with old fashioned safety pins and rubber pants. Even if they get the rubber pants off, it would still be hard to get the diapers off if they are on tight enough since cloth doesnt stretch like a plastic diaper. Good luck!! And keep me posted.

Your question made me laugh because I am living the same nightmare, only my twins are girls!!! I have found my girls head to toe in poop, fnger painting walls, gross stuff! When they started doing this I started potty training and now they dont get anything to drink 30 min before bed or nap, I have to bathe them in the morning because they drink the bath water, and I am about to start the boot camp method potty training... in panties all the time every 15 min they sit on the potty and no drinks 30 before sleep. But as you know having twins is crazy enough, but maybe if they hate being wet that bad they will hold it through the night. Good Luck, I know its not fun.

I would put pants, sweatpants, or shorts over their diaper. If you're telling us they take their pants off, and THEN their diaper, then yea, maybe it is time for underwear. If they are just going in their crib with a diaper on (and nothing over it) then they just need something to make it more difficult. Maybe if the diaper is out of sight, it will be out of mind. My 15-month-old son takes his diaper off, unless I put some type of clothing over it. Your boys are older, so they may know how to get dressed all the way.

One thing that might work is buying zip up pajamas and cutting out the feet and putting them on backwards. My sister is a nanny of twins and had the same problem. The parents even did the duct tape around the diaper and between the legs and then put the jammies on backwards. hope this helps

Not sure if you have tried putting the diapers on backwards? I had the same problem with both my kiddies and the backwards thing really spun them! Good luck!!

My daughter started doing this and we have started putting a bodysuit/onesie on her either under or over her pj's (whichever works best with the pj's she has on)....looks silly, but its been working. :)

I would put them in underwear for bed if they really don't want to wear diapers. They might be feeling like they are "big boys" now & diapers are for "babies". To help with the bedtime accidents, you can get them waterproof pads to sleep on & if you get them out of their cribs & into toddler beds, you can put one or two little potty chairs in their room that they can use at night & you can empty in the morning.

this is my suggestion. buy a waterproof mattress cover for the bed and put them in underwear. they are so ready to be potty trained it sounds like. Of course you are going to have lots of accidents but that is ok. that is what happens to all kids. also show them how to change their own wet underwear. they will need some help and they will probably cry while doing it but it is a very effective way to show cause and affect. you don't want diapers on at naptime and you wet your pants then they have to be changed. if they truly are ready to be trained then they will have some accidents and some other times will be dry. if not ready they will let you put the diaper back on. good luck!

How very frustrating! Have you given any thought to moving them to "big boy beds"? It seems that they are aware of their movements - maybe if they had the option to get out of bed and use the bathroom, that might help with avoiding big messes.

Good luck!

I wish I had a sugestion for you, maybe put them on backwards. But they sound very clever.
Even though you are going crazy, they will get older and no one is really walking around in diapers over the age of 3.
Hang in there. Most of us have been there.

G., Unfortunately, many boys are not ready to potty train until about three to three and a half. Take your focus off something they really are not old enough to control. It will happen in a natural way. When they get to school they will not want to be the babies in diapers. In the meantime focus on what they can do well, rolling a ball, using a spoon, or fingers, using a sippy cup, pretending to read or eat their books,. give them lots of praise for the grown up things they do.
Like many issues in boy's lives, they will be potty trained when they want to be like daddy, and not one minute before, My son has full charge of his little guy using the potty, it's a perfect daddy job because they have the same equipment.
When you signed up for twins you did not ask for the wimp position, and you will succeed if you don't create an issue.

Dear G.,

I have not the slighest idea of what to tell you.....except the more big deal you make out of it....the longer and more they will do it. You realize, of course, that they are a 'factory' of good ideas for each other.

Have them help you clean up the bed. Probably the other mommies will know what to tell you.
