I need to get a highchair for my baby girl and I'm wondering what kind I should get. I had one for my son that I really didn't like because it didn't fold up and it couldn't adjust at all. The two kinds I am considering are: one that you just attach to your kitchen chair and the other is the actual highchair that can adjust to different heights and also can fold up...I've found both of these at Walmart. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I actually have both of those chairs. The first I got when my daughter was born 4yrs ago, its a free standing fold up one that has height adj. It was nice, but they take up a lot of space. The one that goes on the chair we just got when my son was born 3mo. ago, and I LOVE it. the height adj - a little - and the seat back adj. It is called the space saver. They both have trays that go in the dishwasher - which I highly reccomend. The best part is the freestanding was $90.00 from Target, 4 yrs ago, and the space saver was $35.00 off of Amazon. It's one of my fav. new baby products.

When my daughter was little we had a very small kitchen area. I chose the highchair that attached to the kichen chair and loved it. Not only did it not take up any extra room but I could grab it and take it with us when we went to friends or relatives houses. It can also easily be moved to different places in the house so she always had a safe place to sit and watch whatever was going on.

Hey J. --
We have the Fisher Price Space Saver, the one that attaches to a regular chair. We LOVE it. My son is 16 mos, we've been using it since he was about 5 mos. old. It reclines for smaller babies, and it definitely works for a toddler. I believe the height adjusts too. It's REALLY easy to clean, unlike some that are out there, lol.
Good luck, hope you find something that works.

J.,

I loved mine that just attached to the chair. I loved the one my mother got more!! Her's was not the "primary" colors, it was a cool dark turquoise with a lighter yellow food tray. Both just attached to the chair, folded up to go and cleaned up really easily. The thing I liked most about this idea was that my daughter could sit with us at the table when she got some manners (just remove the tray), and I already had space for the chair in my kitchen. Another chair was not an option, there just wasn't any more room, and I wasn't about to fold up her whole deal every day so that I could move about comfortably. I'd go with the kitchen chair models!! Good luck!! Try target online too, they seem to have the same stuff as Walmart, and some trendier items as well. Or KSL's classifieds. Hope that helps!

J., I suggest the adjustable that folds. I am a childcare provider, tried so many and love the adjustable. Folds easily,
tray comes off and cleans easily, the adjustable is great for feeding, (not too high) can pull up to the table later. cleans up good, not too many little cracks and crevices, lasts a long time, well built. Good luck, K.

My Mom bought a Graco fold up chair from Target that has been great. I don't believe the seat reclines for little ones but it is easy to store. We also have a seat that straps to a chair that we use for travel (Safety 1st from Babies-R-Us) that is pretty easy to use. that does have a seat that reclines slightly and was very affordable.

Try them out in the store! Some strap to the seat chairs we tried had difficult trays.

Good luck! Don't buy a wooden chair with cute little rungs. That is what we have and it is a cleaning nighmare!!

i had the one that raises and lowers so you can feed them comfortably while you sit down and also the seat back and whole seat reclines. it folded up pretty skinny too. they have made them so compact these days you'd be surprised, if space is your concern.
when my two got older we used the boosters you tie to the chairs. only issue i had with them is if anyone came over and we needed a chair we had to take it off and low and behold there would be all sorts of dried up food under there. we got smart and started puting a folded bath towel under there. milk gets spilled that you never see pool under there..lol

i couldn't imagine not being with our high chair that we could put our two in and roll them around in,, i even put my daughter in it once when she was too tiny to come play in the snow with us. .i bundled her up, covered her with a blanket and put her in the garage with the door open so she could see us playing but not get hit with so much wind.. and me and her brother played,..she just laughed at us..lol
good luck

I found the seat that attaches to a chair much better than a highchair. we have had both and we were able to put our twins in that chair at lot sooner (meaning it fit them quicker than a bulking highchair) We also travel and it is easy to take with us and much easier to clean than what our highchair was.

I have a little highchair seat that attaches to my chair. I love it! It just folds up if we need to go anywhere or if we need the seat back. I like it because I have such limited space and it was so much cheaper than a big high chair. It's pretty durable. I got it at walmart... it's the one with the green back and blue tray. It comes with a dishwasher safe food tray that has a lid... it's really nice cause I can pack her lunch in there if we go somewhere, or if we're at home and the food is messy I can take care of the food while she plays with toys on the tray, then go and get her... instead of doing it all at once. And when my daughter doesn't need to be in a high chair I can take the back off and use it as a booster seat. ... hahaha! I feel like a salesman. Anyway, Cheers!

J., I like the one that can be attached to the chair. It doesn't take up unnecessary space at the table, and can be removed for travel purposes. My 3 year old still uses it as a booster chair, since you can remove the tray. You can put in some rolled up towels to help her stay upright with any extra space there might be to the sides of her. All the straps are there. Of course, she needs to be able to generally sit upright to use any kind of chair anyway. I found my chair at Babies R Us. It's light beige with a picture of a teddy bear on the cushioned back. Good luck finding what you want. :)

I've used both. I prefer the stand alone one, even though I don't have much room in my house. But it does fold, not that I folded it very often. I like the adjustable legs too! I would use it sometimes to entertain her also, it had attachable toys. It works nice. I used it with my now 2 year old, and I'm about to get it out again for my 4 month old! I even had my oldests birthday party at a park, and I brought it along, it worked out nice!

I would without hesitation recommend the Fisher Price Space saver highchair. We live in an apartment so space is limited and this chair is wonderful! My son loves it and it is very convienient. You can remove and put on the tray table with one hand and the chair itself can recline for younger babies and administering medicine. You can also pin active arms below the tray table safely and comfortably. ( although I don't think that is something exclusive to the space saver highchair ) The other feature that I love is that it converts ot a booster chair when your child is older. It saves not only space but money too!

I have the Fisher price Ocean Wonder High Chair and lot it. My daughter can now get into it herself if I have it as low as it can go and she loves that she can do that. She 15 months old. I did buy a booster seat that has a tray too (cheap like 20.00) so that if we go somewhere I could take it with me easily. Good luck!

Get the Fisher-Price portable high chair that fits in your kitchen chairs/ barstools. That's what I have and I love it. It has hight adjustments and the tray adjust outward so you are not squishing the baby's tummy. The tray is dishwasher safe too! The portability makes it so convenient. I take mine in the motorhome when we vacation and to the family dinners at Auntie and Uncles houses. It will pack away eaisily in between babies when you no longer need it. For $24 you can't go wrong. I would never geet a full sized high chair agian. I have used mine since my daughter was 6 months old and could sit up in it. She is now 20 months old and it is still one of the best baby products I have ever bought!

We started out with a non-adjustable high chair, and switched to the kind you attach to a kitchen chair. This kind worked great because it was easier to clean, fit at our table better, could be taken to restaurants before our son could sit in a restaurant style high chair, and could be taken to other's homes if they did not have chairs for our son. While foldable full high chairs probably have some of these advantages as well, I think I'd reccomend the kind that can be strapped to a kitchen chair.

I used to have a highchair but I have found that the booster seat that hooks to the shair at the table is so much better and less room needed to use it. My daughter loves it and she does alot better. If you have a little one under 6 months that needs to be in the highchair then you may want a normal one but other than that I just used the bouncy seat till then and when she could sit up and as she got older I used the booster. I still use it for her but I also run an In Home Daycare and I only use the booster seats so that way i have enough but have the room to store them when I am not using them. Hope this helps.

We use the highchair that attaches to our dining table chairs and we love it. I believe ours is The First Years brand. I just think that our baby girl really feels like she is sitting at the table with the rest of us when we eat meals and it doesn't add additional clutter to the dining room.

We have used the chair that attaches to the table or counter/bar. The brand we used is Regalo and we found it at Target for about $20. It works great! We had to replace it once with our son who is now 3 because it began to tear in some places and it has some hard to clean places. For $20 it was worth it to replace it once. Good luck!

I have one of those highchairs that attach to a kitchen chair. I really like it! We have a small house and kitchen, so I couldn't imagine a full size highchair fitting in there. I didn't want another piece of furniture to trip over. It's not all bulky and cushy, which makes it easier to clean up.

I have the space saver high chair, I got it at target but it's also at walmart. I can't remember the brand but it's cream and a kind of light brown color. It's great for our kitchen, adjusts, can be used as a toddler seat, and really doesn't take up any more space than the regular chair. On top of that , it's only $50 compared to $80 or $100 for one of the standing ones. We've taken it with us when we go places and it's very light. I would suggest it to anyone.

I have dealt with both. I like the ones that hook to the table, but you have to watch what is under the edge of the table. If you have a trim that comes down, it is harder to connect depending on how close to the edge it is. they are nice, because baby is more like at the table, and less space, other than that that a chair would take up. With the free standing high chairs, I am looking at one right now. They are bulkey, and combersome to move around all the time. They also don't fit right at the table, so if you are limited on space, that takes up even more room that you might not alrady have.

I would definitely go for the kind you can attach to a chair. They can turn into a booster seat when your child is older and you can use it for years. We have one that I love. We take it to restaurants and other friends houses for lunch and dinner and it's very portable. We got the Fisher Price one that's blue, green and white and it has great adjustable features. My mother in law bought one too that is Safety First brand and it's blue, I think this one was just 5 bucks cheaper. But seriously, don't get this one! The tray snaps on in a very scary way and the belt doesn't adjust out very far past a 1 year olds tummy size. I hate to be a name-brand type of person, but I highly recommend you get the Fisher Price one. You can find it at Wal Mart or Target, I believe. Hope this helps.
