Hitting Milestones Late

Hello! My DS is 7 months old and still not rolling around. Whe he first learned how to roll from his back to his tummy he did it quite a bit but then it seemed like the novelty wore off and he stopped. He rarely rolls either way now. My older son (now 3) was the same way and he didn't crawl until 11 months or walk until 13 months. I have mentioned this to my DS's ped and he thinks he is on the late end of normal but says I shouldn't worry. My DS, my sister and I all were late in moving (rolling, crawling...) so my Dr thinks that, along with my 7 mth old DS's easy-going personality have something to do with it. He DOES sit well (has since he was just 6 mths) and he can scoot forward a little on his tummy. He raises up high on his arms and is OK when I place him on all 4 (crawling posture) but doesn't do it on his own.

Should I be happy that he isn't into things just yet? Anyone else have a baby like this? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Some are fast and some are slow. He's fine. When he finally gets motivated to move you will long for the days he'd stay put ;)

So what you are saying is that he did it but now he doesn't? He probably just likes to sit. My son sat and reached for quite a few months. He would just spin to when he wanted and reach for it. What you say about your older son is normal, especially the walking. You can call early intervention and tell them and see if it warrants them coming out. You can cancel the appointment but at least you will know for sure. It sounds like that is just the way your family is in terms of gross motor skills and likely there is no cause for concern.

Yes. My son was late on moving as well. He didn't walk until 18 months. He was and is super content. Don't worry about it.

What is "late"? Walking at 13 months isn't late, that's perfectly normal. Some babies crawl a lot and some almost go straight to walking. Relax and enjoy your son's babyhood. He'll be running around before you know it, then you'll blink and he'll be asking for the car keys!

Neither of my kids rolled over until they started to crawl. Our daughter started to crawl at about 10 months and started to walk 2 days before her 1st birthday. Our son didn't crawl until he was 11 months old but be was pulling himself up and cruising around the furniture at about 9 months. He started walking 2 days after his first birthday. Every kid is different. Our docto told us it wasn't anything to worry about unless our kids were late on many milestones at the same time.

My son is 7 1/2 months and rarely rolls over. He is more than capable he just doesn't want to. He would much rather sit up and reach for things than lay down. I wouldn't worry at all. Every child develops at a different rate and reaches milestones at different times.

I'm sure he's fine. The "milestones" are just a generalization, and every baby is different.

My now 13 year old daughter crawled a little bit at about 13 months and then walked at 14 months. My 10 year old daughter did the "commando crawl" (on belley with elbow over elbow, hardly any leg use) but also late around 13 months. Both crawled on all 4's only for about a few weeks before pulling up to stand and walk. As long as he is following you with his eyes and he has fine motor skills (picking up cheerios, etc), and he startled when you clap you hands then I would not worry. I alsoworried and did not know how easy I had it until they started to run around!

My 10 month old is still doing the commando, whereas his older brother and sister were crawling by 10 months. All babies are different. Don't worry, he's fine!!
