I second the previous post about ensuring that you get full replacement value and the secondary housing. Like alot of things, we may think we will never need it, and therefore don't consider it, especially when we're trying to save some money. But you never know what is going to happen and you'll appreciate it greatly if its available when you need it. BTW, we have Liberty Mutual for car and auto, have had them for about 6 or 7 years, and love them. They have great customer service and have never been dissatisfied then needing to use them.

Hi there!

We changed this past summer to Amica Insurance for our home owners insurance. I didn't like that my rates went up quite a bit with my previous co. (no claims, either.)

I switched to Amica after reading reviews from here: http://www.jdpower.com/Homes/ratings/homeowners-insurance...
I called and talked to an Amica representative and got a quote over the phone. I was really happy to be getting the same coverage as with my other in. co. but for a lot less! We've never had a claim in our 14 years of owning a home, so we have a higher deductible. Also... having an alarm brings the price down, as does some other things. I felt the rep. from Amica was very informative and pleasant to talk to about insurance. So far.... I am happy with them because of their customer service and policy coverage/fee. Good luck!

We have AAA and have had the best luck with them. On the flip side we once had insurance with State Farm and it was absolutely terrible!

I'm an insurance agent in AZ. You need to find an independent agent in your area that has contracts with multiple companies and they can shop around the best price for the best coverage. The agent will also be familiar with your states requirements and the insurance companies so they can find the best fit for you. It doesn't make sense to ask anyone else as there really isn't any comparision unless the person has the same house, same credit, same zip code, same coverages, etc...you get my point...good luck!

Erie Insurance. We've never had a problem with claims and we've had them for about 14 years.

I have Liberty Mutial and I am very pleased. State Farm was fixing to raise our rates through the roof, because of the roof. We had been with State Farm since our home was built and they collected their premiums which of course included potential future damage as that roof aged. Well they wanted more money, a lot more money so they inspected our roof and found that it was old and has a higher chance of damage from a storm.

Really, who knew, a roof ages. Wow I thought your actuary would have taken that into account when you quoted our rates when we built our home. Oh he did, but now you want more money even though we never filed a claim.

Yeah Liberty Mutial insured our old, yet perfect, roof for $120 a year less than State Farm was insuring us for before the rate increase.

Can you tell I have nothing good to say about State Farm?

Wana talk real property tax rates cause then I never shut up! GRRRRRR

What's the reason and I can give you better advice. Isi it price? Try Hartford, USAA and Germania. If it's service, try one of the big guys. State Farm and Nationwide seem to have the most comprehensive policies here in Texas, but it differs state to state. VBe sure you know exactly what is covered and how and what the deductible is. Coverage varies greatly company to compnay. If you like the company but not your local agent, just switch agents.

My only word of advice is, to make sure who ever you go with that you get full replacement value of your property. Most insurance companies offer lower rates, but that only covers the depreciation value of the property and who sets the value, the insurance company. If you pay more and get full replacement value, you get just that. Also, with State Farm, who we have, they do not have a time limit on paying for secondary housing, if you are displaced, some companies only cover up to a year, maybe less. Just make sure you get full replacement value and check the coverage of secondary housing with what ever company you go with. Also check with your auto insurance carrier, most companies offer both and you can get lower rates if you have more than one type of insurance with that company.
