How Reliable Are the Pregnancy Tests from the Dollar Tree Store?

in your opinion, are they as reliable as the name brand ones? i have posted a couple of tiems in the past couple weeks about being worried I may be preggo, even though my husband had a vasectomy 10 months ago and I had a tubal 9 months after I had my twins. I am now on day 2 of being late for my period. In the 19 years that I have been menstruating, I have only been "late"2 times, and those were the 2 times i have been pregnant. plus I have had some bouts of being sick to my stomach, sore/tender nipples, vivid dreaming etc. I know the likelyhood of me being pregnant is reeeeeeeeeeeeeally small, but it is possible. I bought one of the pregnancy tests from the Dollar Tree and took it yesterday and it came back negative. so, I know i'm probably not, but i cant help but worry. i know i know, probably just a shift in hormones or something and i know if i really think i am i should just go to the OB because of the higher chance of it being an eptopic pregnancy if indeed i am...but just wondering if ya'll think the DT tests are as good as the others??

What can I do next?

a pregnancy test is a pregnancy test...dollar tests work just as well at the others. Now they may take more hcg in your system to make it turn positive. Like you have to be at least a week late for them to show a positive line as apposed to the tests that are test before you even miss your period tests.

Dollar Store tests are just as reliable as ones you buy at Walgreens, CVS, the grocery store...wherever.

Surrogates use them all the time during the TWW. When you're sitting around waiting for two weeks to find out if you're pregnant or not, the urge to pee on a stick is overwhelming. Buying the dollar tree brand satisfies that need and saves us money.

Yes. They use the same stuff to test the hormones. I got a positive 4 days before my period!

when i was finishing up my ectopic pregancy and they were following my level down to 0, i decided to do a little science experiment with these tests. (i used them to tell i was pregnant in the first place, and my hcg level never got above 400.)

i had my blood taken in the am, an later that day i did the dollar tree test. it showed positive, and then later found out that my hcg level was 97 earlier that morning. i'd say they are accurate! i wish i could somehow tell everyone to quit wasting their money!

Honestly, my Dollar Tree prego test turned up positive a full week before the name brand ones said they would work. I retested (with another Dollar Tree) to make sure, and then went and bought ANOTHER one and peed on it just to celebrate!!! And it only cost three dollars total!! :)

I had been really achy for days and kind of sick on my tummy. I then started vomiting. I KNEW I was pregnant. I ran to the $ store and bought 5. They all popped up positive within seconds. I then bought the EPT it said negative. I went to my dr. on Monday and sure enough I was pregnant. !

Why not just go to your doctor ASAP rather than worrying about the accuracy of a home test and stressing over your symptoms? Get the definitive answer and then you can move on rather than wasting your time, and increasing your stress, by trying home test after home test.

they should work pretty well! I think maybe your hormone levels aren't high enough, if anything. The other possibility is that you are having a bloated ovum (no idea if I spelled that right) where the egg behaves as though it's been implanted, and it'll start a pregnancy...some symptoms of morning sickness will start...then the "pregnancy' will end soon after. My sister had that happen to her once. Or maybe you really are prego! It'll be interesting to see what happens...

Yes they are just as accurate however there are some on the market that are supposed to be more sensitive and be able to tell you earlier. That's what my OB's office instructed me and said to get the First Response early detection for the earliest results. However I've been in your shoes sort of. I just went through a ordeal of all kinds of pregnancy symptoms that I never have had except when I was pregnant but I never got a positive on a pregnancy test. I have had some issues with skipping periods though the past couple of years so they think my symptoms were hormonal. It's either that or I did get pregnant but miscarried very early on. I had darkened nipples and areolas, nausea and more. Most likely it's hormonal with your situation but if you don't start within a few days I'd take another test and/or take the more sensitive test. If you don't get a result in a week or two and haven't started I'd check with your OB's office to get checked out. You may have some other type of condition or health issue brewing.

Yes they have been accurate for me with all 4 pregnancies these are the only type I will buy, then once I reach a positive I will have a blood test ordered to confirm. You do have a slim chance of being pregnant but I do believe it can happen even though both of you are fixed it's not 100% quarenteed. In fact I know a lady who is in the medical filed she did become pregnant months later after her tubes being tied, she had her child then had to have it redone

I always wondered that UNTIL I worked a place that sold to the dollar stores. After candy, that was THE most stolen item. Everybody stole them because they were just as accurate as the expensive ones. Ya learn something new everyday.

Yes, I think they are. When we got pregnant with our son it was accurate. Other times I have taken one (2 or 3 other times), it was negative, and in fact I was not pregnant. So I have no issues with them, and think they are accurate.
