How Soon Did You Start to Show with Baby # 2?

Hi moms. I'm 7 1/2 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. I was just curious when others started to show and wear maternity clothes with second babies. When I look down at my stomach is looks big. I'm still in my regular clothes but sometimes by the end of the day my jeans feel a little snug around the waste. I haven't gained any weight yet but my weight is probably shifting. Anyway, just curious about what to expect this time around! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I wasn't out of my maternity clothes from my first baby yet, although I got pregnant when he was 7 months old and still breast feeding. I used to work for an OB so i can tell you that everyone is different but almost ALL women show sooner with their second baby.

I couldn't fit into my regular jeans by 8 weeks. But did not have a noticable bump till about 12 weeks. I found a pair of maternity jeans that suited me well from old navy. However I am slightly older and am not the type to let the baby bump hang out. I needed the old fashioned full panel maternity jeans for month 7-9.

Hi R.,
I noticed that I started to show a little sooner with my second child. I had a small pouch at about 9 weeks and was starting to wear some maternity tops by the time I was 14-16 weeks I think. I wore a size bigger jeans for a little while before I got into maternity pants. Congrats on baby #2!!!

Hi R.,

Congratulations! I remember being in regular clothes even in July when I got pregnant in Feb. with baby #2 (now 14), so that's what? 5th month? maybe even a little longer--i remember people saying "You're still wearing regular clothes?"

With baby #1 I don't remember so well (he is now 17), I think I showed earlier, maybe 3 or 4 months; but we weren't really sure when I got pregnant with him, my cycles were so messed up; they kept changing my due date! lol (but it wasn't always funny at the time!)

Enjoy your pregnancy and your toddler, they are little for SO short a time!

My memory is pretty crappy, but I think I began showing right around 3 to 3 1/2 months with #2 and #3. I was actually excited about getting in to maternity clothes! Now, 7 years later, and pregnant with #4 (surprise!), I want to stay in my regular clothes as long as possible. With the newer "low-rise" styles, I can still wear my jeans at 4 1/2 months! Of course, I usually do the rubber band around the button, trick, but it's great. ALSO, I found this wonderful invention called the bella band. I'm sure there are different brands of these, but Ithey are great. If you aren't familiar, they are large bands of spandex-type fabric that you can wear around your mid section. I use them now to keep looser maternity pants in place and to cover up the rubber band fastener and unzipped non-maternity pants. I plan to do the same thing after the baby is born when I can't quite get back in to my regular pants, but loathe still wearing maternity jeans. LOVE IT!!! BTW, I felt like I wasn't really showing with this pregnancy, but literally, popped out overnight! In one day, I had three people "notice" I was pregnant who see me nearly everyday. Good luck and congratulations!!!!!

I started showing much quicker with number 2 than I did with number 1. At 4 months I looked like I did at 6.5 months.

With my 2nd pregnancy I started showing at 4 weeks... but a few months later found out I was carrying twins. My 3rd pregnancy showed early too... thank goodness it was just one baby! LOL!

I got super lucky with my second. I didn't start wearing maternity clothes until I was 6 1/2 months pregnant.

My second pregnancy, I was showing before I even peed on the stick. LOL! I seriousely could not figure out why I had this pooch that I could not get rid of before I had even missed my period. Then again, once I did finally figure out I just assumed it was due to being my second pregnancy, but at my 10 week appointment we found out it was twins. However, my 3rd pregnancy I showed a lot earlier too, but it was at least after I knew. I wore sweat outfits all the time so I got by I think about to the end of my first trimester before I broke out the maternity clothes.

With first baby when I was 7 mo along, no one believed that my baby was due in 2 mo. With baby #2 by 7 mo, my maternity clothes were as tight as they were at 9 mo with baby #1. Maternity clothes were being worn with baby #2 within 8-10 wks. May God bless you and your new baby.

I didn't need maternity clothes with my first one until I was 6 months pregnant, and about 4 months with the 3rd one. Sorry I wore alot of scrubs before I was with and during number 2. They are alot loser fitting so I didnt show as much. but I think when I was in the 6th month again with that one. Hope this helps.

This is completely normal. Your muscles (including your uterus) have gotten used to what it feels like to be pregnant from your first baby, so things shift and change sooner than with the first. Muscles never get back to exactly how they were before, so things are a bit more relaxed in the belly area. Nothing to be concerned about. :)

I hope the Lord blesses you with a wonderful pregnancy. Have you considered hiring a doula? She can answer all your questions about subsequent babies (and if she can't, she can find the answers). I hired a doula for the births of both of my babies and it was the best gift I could have given myself. Priceless! :)

God bless,
A.

I was 5 months, but I was still nursing #1, so I could eat whatever I wanted. Most people know felt like they showed right after taking a positive test!

Congrats on your new baby on the way. I have a 2 year old son and am 5.5 months pregnant. I started showing and really needing maternity clothes at about 5 months with my son. This time...I was ready for maternity clothes by before 3 months! I look huge comparatively already now at 5 months. I think it's all normal. Your uterus has done it before and expands more quickly. Good luck!

Congrats on #2!! Honey, I was wearing maternity clothes at 8 weeks. I gave up and started wearing them at that time because keeping up with my then 2 1/2 year old, I just wanted to be comfortable.

Hi R.,
Congrats on baby #2! Personally, every pregnancy for me was different no matter what number it was. With my first and third pregnancy I started wearing maternity clothes between 15 and 20 weeks. With baby #2 I was in maternity clothes by 12 weeks. All three babies were girls too. I think the best thing I learned with pregnancy/baby #2 is how night and day all your children and pregnancies will be. It's truly amazing! Good luck!

How soon you show with baby number 2 varies. It depends on the person. I started showing at 3 months with my first child, and I was right about 3 months with my second child too. My third child I started showing around the same time as well. It depends on your body. Not everyone is going to be the same. I only gained 33.5 lbs. with my first, and between 65-68 lbs. with the other two. It does vary from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy. Congratulations on the expecting of baby #2!!

i started showing by month 2 & had to wear maternity by week 10 or 11 (b/c i didn't want to buy a size up in pants). i think only i could tell it was a baby belly, i was told most everyone thought it was just a little tummy pouch (i had lost all 60 pounds from my first pregnancy, so i was pretty small at the beginning of both). i didn't show until month 5 with my first.
congrats & i hope you are able to avoid pregnancy woes!

I am 10 weeks and I just started to show today, literally overnight, with my sister (whom I see almost every day) telling me, "wow, you're not even 3 months, you're going to be huge!" Gee, thanks, Sis. This is my second baby, and I feel much better now after seeing all of your comments. I was really wondering if this was normal since with my first baby I didn't show until 5 or 6 mos, but weighed about 30 lbs less. I've been sick enough that I haven't gained any weight, but my belly is now beyond my boobs, even though my pants fit more loosely since I've lost about 12 lbs.

Hi R.,
Congratulations! With #2, I started wearing maternity shirts at about 12 weeks; I was able to still wear my regular jeans/pants until about 4 or 5mos - unbuttoned by midafternoon and sweatpants on as soon as I got home :)but I did have to buy a few summer items. I also thought it was more of a weight shift than a gain but I think I began to show sooner, too. With #1, I think I started to wear maternity clothes sooner just because I was so excited to be pregnant - not because I needed them!
Good Luck!
Dawn

Every person is different. I am pregnant with baby #3, and I am just now showing at 18 weeks. I showed later with all my babies. I started wearing maternity pants early though, just to be comfortable. I too would get that bigger feeling (bloating) towards the end of the day too, and the maternity pants just felt better. I still am wearing some of my regular shirts.

I started showing rather quickly with my second. I had pretty bad morning sickness the first 12 weeks or so, so I didn't gain anyway (or much) weight in the first trimester. By the second trimester, I was in maternity clothes.
