How to Disinfect Toys

My 2 year old son was experiencing some digestive issues when he accidently pooped in the tub. Lovely, I know. We took all the toys out and put them in a plastic trash bag. Now, I need to take them back out to clean them! Yuck!! What is the best way to disinfect these toys? I think I can soak them in the sink with bleach water, but I don't know proportions and I don't know what's next after that. (Can you tell I never disinfect my toys?) I have plenty of liquid bleach, but not a whole lot of chemical cleaners beyond that.
Thanks for the advice!

What can I do next?

We would put them back in the tub, add copious bleach and water, let it soak for 20 minutes, then rinses really well and let dry. Then we would clean the tub as usual and call it good.

Buy one of those lingerie bags for the washing machine -- a bigger one -- and put your toys in the bag, then put the bag on the top rack of the dishwasher.

Vinegar water mix is a great. I use it around the toilet every week for cleaning- It is natural & very safe- Hope this works for you- Ps A gallon jug is cheaper the those high priced cleaners

I got these ratios from our preschool which were prepared by Hennepin County COmmunity Health Dept.

Granted, this is more for spraying the toys (the bleach evaporates) but it gives you some ratios to use. When this happend at our house, I washed them with soap then ran them through the dishwasher. PS I don't "test" the bleach solution -- that's really a requirement to day cares.

Instead of bleach that has to be rinsed off use Peroxide. I use it to clean and disenfect with out the smell of bleach. Hospitals use it to clean. Have you ever smelled bleach in a hospital? That's what I use. It's even a good mouth wash. Use 50/50. 50 water 50 peroxide. Works great. Someone sent me an entire list of uses for peroxide. Windows, counter tops, soak tooth brushes you can also use it in the wash to whiten your whites and it's cheaper then bleach. G. J.
