Hi all-

Not a baby question but a big girl question, has anyone ever used the Hyland Earache Drops for themselves? The package says all ages and after just getting over a two week long raging head cold I know have an major ear ache. It feels stuffed up or 'full' and is throbbing and pretty achey. Doc said my cold was viral and didn't treat me with antibiotics and said my ear is likely a result of all that congestion moving itself out of my face.

I just went and got the drops, it's harder to administer them to yourself than I had thought. Feeling a little relief so far but can't wait to get home and lay down. Too bad we don't have nap times at the office. Any suggestions for clearning things out, relieving pain, etc.?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ended up going to the doctor, there was a walk-in/urgent care clinic near my office. Doc said Hylands was a good idea and I should definitely keep them on hand but decided to give me drops that had a little something stronger that had a topical anesthetic and a steroid to get rid of the infection. Hylands worked midly which was great in my book because the pain was something fierce and kept me from sleeping the night before so I was happy about that. I'm definitely going to try the garlic and cotton idea-homeopathic can never hurt! Thanks all!

Take a clove of garlic. Peel it carefully. Place it over the opening in your ear. Put a bandaid over it. Wear it all day long.
Use the eardrops at night with a cotton ball over the opening.
How to make ear oil yourself. Olive oil and cinnamon, warm oil slowly. Place in ear when not hot just warm.

I'm big on not using antibiotics for viral infections but, just because a cold is viral doesn't mean that your earache is just congestion; it could be a secondary bacterial infection! Check with your doctor if it doesn't improve soon!

My husband used Hyland's Ear drop s just the last two weeks for a big earache that came after a long sinus infection- he said they worked well and the earache is gone now:)

The hylands is good. The answer from Laeh is terrific, I'd use it if I were you. I knew the garlic thing and always wearing a cotton ball over opening helps a lot. When I do the cotton ball I put garlic oil on it and warm it. If you don't have these on hand you can also use olive oil but doesn't help as much. It sounds like a good idea to do it with the cinnamon, never heard that one, but I can see how it'd help. Taking garlic helps a lot too and a good Vit. C, like Alacer vit. C.
