Hello Ladies,
My bookclub is looking for a really good book.......and a short one. We are all overwhelmed with end of the school year madness and have decided this will help keep our stress level down.
Thanks for any suggestions,
P.

My neighborhood just started a book club and we needed something brief since our first discussion had to be scheduled a little early in the month. The group chose "#1 Ladies Detective Agency." This book is brief, entertaining but has enough characterization, setting and story for a book club. More good news - availble at Half Price Books because it was published in '98. Have fun!

I just read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. It a book that I think can lead to a lot of discussions in a book club. It's about the relationship of two women in 19th century China. My copy even had reading group discussion questions at the end. It might be 250 pages..I finished it in three days. I'm sure Amazon.com has reviews for you to peruse.

Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim... it is deep and disturbing, but a wonderful book. It is about 2 boys who are molested by a coach... they both deal with this in very different ways b/c they are very different people. Then, all grown up, they find each other again. Very good book.

Any book by Nicholas Sparks is awesome! I have read them all! (Yes, he wrote The Notebook.) One of his newest books is The Lucky One. This book was of course awesome. Really easy to read, his books really pull you in. Have fun!

I was just in the market for this type of suggestion recently too... We just finished reading "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert and LOVED it! I cannot wait until her next book comes out. I enjoyed it so much that I read it over again right after I finished it.

I really felt a tremendous amount of personal growth, introspection, and inspiration come out of reading it.

Hope that helps!

I'm currently reading 'Chocolat' by Joanne Harris. It's the book from which the movie was based. It's relatively short. Setting is in France, small quaint town. You can read more about the book (and a much better depiction) on barnesandnoble.com. Just be sure to search for the title without an "e" on the end of the word. I think it would give your bookclub much to discuss. If you do choose this book, please let me know your thoughts!

My favorite book is Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson. Quick easy read and a major emotional tear jerker.

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card is pretty funny and an easy read.

A book that truly moved me was The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. He was a professor that died of cancer. Made me cry almost every time I sat down to read it, but not b/c it's sad. It's very inspiring! It hit close to home since my husband is a cancer survivor.
