I Need Help Decorating My Baby Boy's Room

Classic, clean lines, clean colors. Krisp tans (stay away from tans with yellow or pinks), do a krisp kaki on the walls with a very light ice blue on the ceiling, trim stays white. Black and white photos with ice blue matting with classic black frames do three in a row with dark brown ribbon hanging the photos by a single (one each) crystal knob (purchase at Target). On the matting, use black pen to date and explain what you felt when you took the photo..makes it personal and not so commercial. Black dresser with crystal knobs (can change these out when he's older to skateboard wheels or whatever he is into) don't plaster a bunch of things on the walls...let the room grow with your family. For curtains...I love Pottery Barn's simple dark brown ceiling to floor tabs...please raise them to the ceiling to draw the eye up...too many people hang them right at the top of the window and it dwarfs your room and looks weird! :) Have fun!

Look at restoration hardware for babies. They have simple styles and clean lines.

My husband did not want a character theme for our littler boy's room but it's so hard to find. I finally found bedding in shades of blue, chocolate and carmel online at BeyondBedding.com. I saw a room someone else had done and fell in love with it. They've got some really cute stuff and it's pretty decently priced

What kind of contemporary? Fresh, bright, and clean, or bright, funky and vibrant?

I like Pottery Barn Kids and solid walls, myself. They have idea classes on Saturday mornings, just call for the schedule.

By this time i think is ok if you just go with contemporary style that you like, ones you notice how the personality of your baby is you can decor according to him, even if you don't like themes, we have to understand that, that place is going to be his place and he has to be confortable and happy to be there, to play there, to read there...

I do not sew, but have found that my biggest inspiration for decorating comes from visiting fabric stores. There are so many color combinations that you would never think of. If you asked around, you may be surprised at how many friends or family members can sew and would be willing to help. Curtains, pillows, throw blankets are not difficult to sew. You can buy solid colored bedding and just use the fabric as accent. You can make wall decor out of fabric, as well. I love fabric and craft stores.
Also, try IKEA. They have the cutest baby department with bedding and curtains, etc. They also have a fabric department. Good Luck!

I don't know if this would be considered "contemporary" and I'm not an interior designer. What about getting picture frames or mirrors that are framed all different shapes (e.g., octagon, oval, circle, square, rectangle). If it's just frames (no glass or backing or mirrors), you can color each of the frame shapes a different color before hanging (e.g., pink circle, yellow square, blue octagon, orange triangle). That way, there's no one color chosen and the room stays youthful looking and bright. If you go this route, I would choose either a white/offwhite background or perhaps even a soft grey background color so the various colors could be accented well.
To be consistent, you can have white or offwhite curtains that have different colored shaped embroidered on them. Well, maybe not, because then it's starting to be a theme and you said you didn't want that so nevermind.
At any rate, hope this helps you think of something!

When I had trouble coming up with a theme, I borrowed a good friend of mine's idea of getting pictures of my family (uncle, mom, dad, grandmother, etc.) when they were little infants and/or toddlers and hung them in picture frames all over the walls in my son's room. It's a theme (again) but I don't mind themes.

I would go with a color you like, something calm but colorful. Or you could use white walls and rainbow colors for curtains and bedding. That moves easily from infancy to childhood, and is contemporary. Ikea has nice colorful decor that is not "theme" oriented, and is reasonably priced to change as a child grows older. Check their website.

I have a 4 month old son, and my husband did his room.. He found a great border that had navy and white sailboats on it.. It wasn't baby-ish, so we can keep this until he's 6 or 7 years old.. we painted the bottom half of the room in navy, left the upper half the original color (light khacki) and the border went around the middle.. Then we bought letters for his name, and painted them the same navy blue to tie it together.. it looks wonderful!! Have fun with your new baby!!

I also have seen some nice bedding at Target, I just can;t remember if it was girl or boy.
You can always just buy some crib sheets and a few baby blankets in white and until after your son is born.

Pottery Barn is the ultimate, but you can do whatever your own style is. .. Ikea has some great ideas.. Good place to walk also.

Remember the paint is going to smell for a while, you are really close to having the baby, you may want to look into non toxic paint.

You could choose mint and chocolate, Black and red, Ice Blue and Chocolate you do not have to do a the theme.. All of the decorating is mostly for the parents anyway, so just make it feel like the rest of the house.

I was headed for a Woodland theme look for our son. It ended up a mish mosh of old toys of mine ( fisher price wooden train, music box, baby cookie jar, and both my husbands and my old teddy bears). I bought a bear picture from etsy.com they have lots of hand made things including contemporary decor. I don't know how you feel about polka dots but a friend of mine decorated her little boys room with a polka dot bedding set from target and it looked so cute. They have a blue set and a green set with multi colored dots. My friend had the green, painted the walls green with dark brown contemporary furniture. It looked so great with his little animal toys and books. I liked it so much it makes me want to have more kids!-Ahhhh. Anyway, I hope this helps you.
