ok my request is throughout my pregnancy i've been sick for the past 5 months, everything i eat makes me feel sick and i can't keep it down. i had to go to the ER one night because i had gotten sick for 24 hours non-stop. the doctor told me nothing was wrong with me other then morning sickness, well they gave me these pills called ( PROMETHAZINE) well after taking some of them pills they made me feel worse then i was already feeling. i just need to know if there is any type of medicine out there i can take for sickness, some of my friends say that your not suppose to be getting sick after your already past your fourth month so is it alright to still get sick?

What can I do next?

I was like that too with my daughter try Ginger Beer preferrably Stewarts Kroger carries them in 4 packs, they are stronger than ginger ale and just small sips through out the day used to soothe some of the nausea for me more so than the pills the doctors gave me. Good luck !! Hang in there!!!

I have had two children and i was sick the entire pregnancies except for about 4 weeks in the 7th month. The doctor gave me phinagrin (misspelled) but that never helped me. Unfortunately it is something that some women have do go through. Do NOT listen to people telling you that it should have passed. Every pregnancy is different and every pregnant mom is different. I ate small meals and would sometimes just eat a piece of bread to try and settle my stomach. Hang in there and know that it will all be worth it in Feb.

Hello,
I was the same way throughout pregnancy, and I also went to the ER a few times for dehydration but I delivered a healthy baby.My Dr told me it was normal to be sick too.I guess most people have a few extra months of sickness.I don't think you have anything to worry about.I went to walmart and found an over the counter med to take and it worked. My advice to you stop worrying b/c that could lead to unnessecery stress,go to walmart and find that over the counter med and try it.Hang in there b/c everything is going to be alright.I was a 19 when I had my baby so I feel all your worries but it's gonna be fine.

Ok when I was pregnant with my first daughter I was sick all day every day and night. After I had my dughter I still had "morning sickness" due to what doctors call "horomones being out of wack". After changing doctors and having a few blood tests done I found out I had a parasite in my stomach that caused stomach ulcers and untreated could cause bleeding in the stomach. Everytime I would eat it felt like the food was still stuck in my throat and would not go down. Also I would get awful sick feelings in my stomach. http://www.healthline.com/adamcontent/helicobacter-pylori This is a website that explanes a little more. They done a simple blood test on me and found that's what it was. It sounds like we went through about the same things, and if a nurse at the doctors office hadn't had this I would probably still be living with being sick and in pain. Keep in touch and let me know how things go

Zofram is amazing and it works. It is normal to be sick throughout your pregnancy and it makes life miserable. Natural remedies are good to try and a lot of people have had success with them but I know from experience that Zofram works and it's safe. I would ask your doctor about it immediately. It's was got me through the worst of it.

OK, this might sound crazy, but..... when I was pregnant the last time I was always sick.... unless I was eating! LOL! I could NOT go for long without eating something or I was extremely nausous. My Dr. called it something, and now I cannot remember what it was... but really, try eating saltines (the low salt ones). I always kept some on me. As well as lots of fruits. I dont know if this will help, but it did me!

Oh goodness! I tell ya what, like being pregnant and losing your figure you once had wasn't enough! As far as morning sickness goes, that is a condition some women get while pregnant but it doesn't have to occur only in the morning. I had "morning sickness" at all times of the day. To still have it in your fourth month is a normal thing for alot of women. I think mine lasted til about my seventh month. The reason behind it is this...when a woman gets pregnant the hormones in her body trigger off chemicals in the brain that will either agree or disagree with certain changes that take place with each gestation. I know all that sounds like a bunch of medical bla-bla, but what I am saying is that your bodys natural response to this pregnancy is like having a stomach virus, your body is trying to deal with a new change from the way your body normally works. For some women, they never have any morning sickness and go through the whole pregnancy with a breeze. And then there are those that get all the crappy stuff. Plus, I am sure that you are seeing good doctors and that they are doing all they can to guide you through this pregnancy in a healthy manner. Remember, you can ask your doctors anything you need to. It is your body and only you know what's going on with it. Do a little research yourself about stuff that is going on with your pregnancy, you may come across information that your doctor may over look. And if nothing else, you would have gained knowledge for when you decide to have another baby. I guess what I am saying is don't worry. Just remember this, if food is not your friend right now, you need to always stay hydrated. Take your prenatal vitamins and rest as much as possible. If and when you can eat, eat things that are light. Like saltine crackers, plain baked potato, chicken broth...things like that. If you are worried about the baby not getting enough nutrients, the vitamins will help with that, but only so much. If you can keep any of these down try these...yogart, fruit, jello, fruit popcicles. These things were the only things I could keep done. I hope this advice works for you. Oh yeah, what I like to refer to as my bible during my pregnancy was a book (you can get it at Wal-Mart or any book store) called "WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARE EXPECTING"...I think this book will be very helpful especially since you are a first time mom. By the way CONGRATS and I wish you the best. Motherhood is wonderful and scarey at the same time, but an adventure you will cherish forever!

I too was sick through my entire pregnancy. I lost 20 pounds in the first 4 months and then gained it back after the 7th. I took the promethazine(Phenergran)too. It really made me sleepy. The doc told me that even if I went a couple days without eating and just drank that the baby would be okay. I would find one thing that I could eat and eat alot of it. When I got sick of it I had to find something else. Everything made me vomit. It was the worst I felt in my life. i kept thinking that it would pass with every week or every trimester and it didn't. I know exactly how you feel. Then at the end when I did start to feel better everything gave me heart burn. The best advise I can give you is just to try all sorts of things you are bound to be able to keep some of it down. Try crackers and breads first with gingerale or some juice. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins so the baby gets nutrient it needs that it's not getting from you eating. The baby will take everything it needs from you. I really liked strawberry shortcake ice cream bars when I was pregnant it will be something different for you. Try to get up and do stuff every day. Staying in bed will only make you feel worse and more weak. Your not alone. There are lots of us who feel for you. Good Luck and I hope I helped a little instead of just rambling on.

I would recommend something homeopathic. Go to the natural food store and ask them what could help. Also if you are in Mobile AL or close by- there is a really good female chiropractor here that adjusts while you are pregnant (most do) I did it throughout my 2nd pregnancy-it was awesome. She told me more about my baby than the OB ever did. Chiropractic medicine is good for everything! Her name is Christy Agren ###-###-####. Let me know if I can help!

With my first child I was sick the entire 9 months! I threw up every day! It was miserable. I went to the emergency room twice because I was dehydrated and couldn't even keep down water or ice chips. And like you it was all just morning sickness. My OB gave me every kind of nausea medicine I could take even the $20 a pill melt on your tounge medinice they give cancer patients who are going though kemo. And nothing helped. The good news is (i'm sure I haven't made you feel any better at this point)that After the worst 9 months of my life I had a beautiful healthy baby boy with no complications. So it doesn't mean anythings wrong, our bodies just didn't adjust well to pregancy. Also I just gave birth to my second son and this pregancy was alot easier I was only sick for the first 3 months and then for about 2 weeks at the very end. So don't worry it should all be fine. B., I have two 2 yr old little boys that are vry happy and healthy. I wish I could tell you how to stop your sickness but some of us are not so lucky. I was sick for the entirety of my pregnancy, unable most of the time to keep down a saltine cracker. I would suggest to keep on trying to eat as best you can but your biological system sometimes has a mind of its on, nothing could stop mine. My boys did come prematurely at 33 weeks but the doctors said this was merely due to the multiple birth factor and they were astonishingly a very good weight for gestation, so keep your chin up, everyone is different during pregnancy.

Hi! I was 21 when I got pregnant and 22 when I gave birth. I went to my 3 month checkup and the Dr. said "well if you haven't gotten morning sickness by now you are out of the woods..." The VERY next day I got sick and was sick until about 2 weeks before I gave birth. So I was UNLIKE everyone else - I was fine the first 3 months and sick the last six.
Don't worry about it babe - you are perfectly fine! Mention it to your doctor...but like I said - mine wasn't concerned because all my other vitals were normal. Don't worry about it babe - me AND my sister were both the same way. It just depends on how your body handles hormones. Peace and blessings to you and your baby.

Hello B.,
It sounds as if you have a case of hyperemesis. I had a friend that had the same thing and was sick for 8 of the 9 months of pregnancy. Luckily I only had morning sickness for 4 months with 1 of my 3 children. I was prescribed a drug called Zofran. It is usually used in patients that have sickness due to Chemotheraphy but it works great in pregnancy also. Ask your Doctor about it, I know some will not prescribe it due to it's high price but it's your body and sickness is the worst thing especially in a first pregnancy. Just a little info, hope it helps and good luck :-)

I had similar problems. I was VERY sick throughout my pregnancy as well...and was hospitalized in my 6th month. I had lost over 12 pounds and was very dehydrated. The doctor considered removing my galbladder...but wanted to wait as long as possible. They gave me an anti-nausea medicine...I can't remember the name, but it started with an "E". I called it my miracle pill! Two months after I gave birth, I finally stopped getting sick...and never had my galbladder removed. I'm not sure what caused it...but hopefully you can get your hands on some good medicine.

I had a dr who put my in the hospital once and gave me vitamins(thymine to be exact) it was a miracle vitamin. I never completely got over it but I was able to eat. Then in the end I got really sick again and once again thought I was going to have to have a feeding tube. And they wanted to deliver my babies I was so sick. The first thing is keep in mind every pregnancy is different, and I mean extremely different. Another thing is that no one else is going to have the same pregnancy as another person. When doctors or others tell you you shouldn't be experiencing this or that now or not until later or you should be over that by now is just an average guide. When you feel like you are going to be sick try laying on your left side. I know that sounds weird but it does help. Eat some toast, crackers, or pretzels and drink some sprite or what ever you like even gatorade would be better cause it will replenish the electrolytes you have been loosing. Now for the pills they gave you if they make it worse don't take them anymore and inform your doctor. I found a lot of the meds that are suppose to help with one symptom or another didn't always help. I went into the hospital for premature labor with my daughter several times and Magnesiumsulfate that they normally used to stop labor didn't work anymore so they started using Phergan (not sure if I spelled that right), now this is used in Eroup. Phenergan is a great medication used to treat nausea and vomitting and it works great plus makes you tired so don't drive or make any plans but it will help with sleep. Good Luck

(Hey carcker crumbs in the bed are better that being sick), that worked for me.
p.s. don't let everyones stories of having a kid freak you out. just do what your ob doctor tells you. it is the coolest thing in the world when you look into that little face for the very first time. for me that was 21 years ago( my oldest just turned 21) and i remember it like it was yesterday. you'll be great and do just fine.

I threw up everyday up to my delivery day with my pregnancy. My nausea would hit anytime of the day, but did seem to be worse in the morning. I had preclamcia so you might want to ask you doctor if you have signs for it, generally it is very swollen legs, ankles, face, hands etc, high blood pressure, and too much water weight gain. I took emetrol by the spoonfuls, it was the only thing that seemed to help, and my doctor ok'd it early on in my pregnancy. I wouldn't say that it is uncommon and every pregnancy is different, so some may feel great after 4 months, or even at first, and others are sick the whole time. One thing that did work for me, was that I would keep some crackers by the bed and would eat about 10 before even getting out of bed, and then I would have water and lemon ready in the fridge to drink, it helped to everything to a minimum. I wish you the best.

Stay away from sweets and grease-and watch your carb intake(which I know is hard, but there are tricks)... of course I cheated with a little ice-cream or chocolate every now and then! But I found it helped to do that earlier in the day while I was up and about... I didn't care for crackers much I would eat the middle out of white-wheat bread. Not to mention taking meds for heartburn(my doctor had me taking 2 dif ones, one in the morn then one at night, Pepcid AC, and Zantac 75. They say on them check with doctor if pregnant before taking) I also used tums-sugarfree. I was 30yrs old with my third pregnancy and I payed very close attention to everything I ate and it was the only pregnancy I enjoyed!!! If you have any questions feel free to holler at me ____@____.com TC and good luck I hope you feel better soon so you can enjoy it more....

Hi B. (by the way--I love your name)--
Every pregnancy is different. So as a first time mom, the best thing is for you to understand that just because someone says something isn't supposed to happen, doesn't mean that you're weird if it does happen to you. My mom had morning sickness into the 5 month with me, and I have friends who were sick the whole 9 months. I don't know of any medicines that will help you, but you could try some natural stuff. Ginger is good for queezy stomachs as is watermelon. Those worked for me, but not for a friend of mine. So it may or may not help. But at this point I am sure you are ready to try anything. Best of luck to you!

I'm surprised nobody has explained WHAT CAUSSES morning sickness. My OB told me that my liver had enlarged, in order to provide enough blood cells to support my growing baby. The enlarged liver presses on the stomach, which causes the queasy sensation. Eating usually re-directs the stomach muscles to digest, rather than force out the extra bile that the over-active liver is now producing.

Does that make you feel any better? It's NORMAL!

Now, you say, what can I do to STOP the queasys!! Avoid anything spicy, acidic, greasy, or anything that would put additional strain on your liver. Check out "gall bladder" diets. Sit up straight, and put your arms on top of your head. This helps raise your ribcage, lifting your diaphragm off your stomach. Take deep, slow breaths (in through nose, out through mouth). (I used to stick my head in the freezer and brethe the cold air!)

I always worry about anyone taking ANY medications when pregnant. I was born during the Thalidomide scare in the 50's. It was a popular drug for anti-nausea that caused birth defects, and has since been banned. Thankfully, Mom had a smart Doc, who refused to let her take anything.

I also had to avoid eggs and beef for a while. The mere smell of them was too much for me.

Welcome to Motherhood!
Hugs!

I was sick up until the moment I had my son! Even vomitted during the delivery... ugh - Promethizine is another term for phenergran (sp?)... either way - it's an anti-nausia med... not all meds work for us all! There's a VERY strange thing I did to help my sickness. Drink milk. Weird I know - but it worked for me, when I told this to my OB she said the only thing she could say about it was that it may have helped nutralize the acids in my belly... find what works... eat small portions through out the day, even if it's a nibble here and there every 30 minutes, get your nutrients in. But don't worry about the vommitting too much, because that will cause more vommitting... Make sure you take your prenatal vitamins... if possible, ask your doctor if you can try a different brand of the prenatal vitamins... I took PRE-NATE ... I had tried 2 others before finding that this helped eliviate some of the nausia... don't eat alot of salty, or greasy foods. And another book that became like a bible to me - "WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING"... go get one!!!! It's got EVERYTHING you need in it!!!

Hi B. -

I too was sick throughout my entire pregnancy. Someone suggested (towards the end) that I take vitamin B6. I did, and it really helped (it's pretty inexpensive). I know acidophilus (or Probiotics) also works for some people, but it didn't work for me really. The only thing I could really keep down was Ensure. I was so happy to be able to drink those because then I knew my baby was getting at least the basic nutrition he needed (he is a very happy, healthy baby now). The good news for you is that usually when you're so sick, you tend to have a smaller baby, which makes delivery easier (it did in my case). Don't worry about being a mommy. You'll do great. Just find a mother's support group if you can - you and your baby will both enjoy it. God bless you.

I was VERY sick through my pregnancy. For months i couldnt even smell food without getting sick. When i was about four months along my doctor hooked me up to an IV to hidrate me. It worked wonders. I still got icky feeling, but i didnt get sick anymore. Unfortunatly it's not a permanant fix. I started getting sick again at 7 1/2 months and stayed that way till the end. The doc said at this point it's probably my body getting ready. But the IV really helped me out. Hope it works!

I was sick for the first 5 months of my second pregnancy. At 25 weeks I read an article that said Benadryl works. I talked to my dactor and she said it was fine and that it does not cross the placenta. It made the next 3 months tolerable for me. I only took one at night before bed and it made a difference for the whole next day morning sickness wise and since i took it at night I didn't have to worry about being sleepy.
There are also wrist bands that you can buy at CVS that help with motion sickness. They helped some, but not enough.
With my first child I was only sick for 12 weeks and once I learned to regulate my blood sugar I was fine. Cheese toast and goldfish crackers were my friends. It is different for everyone, but I know each time there was something that helped.
As for not being sick after the first trimester, that isn't always true. I have known people sick the whole time.

Try Emetrol. It is over the counter and it is all natural. If you can get it dow, it may help. It is not the best tasting stuff in the world, but it may do the trick. Good luck.

Hi B.,

I had a dear friend in her mid 20's that was having her first child. Not saying this could happen to you but the theory that women only have morning sickness a few months of their pregnancy is not true. She would throw up 24/7. She did get some relief, not complete relief, but the medication was expensive and her insurance refused to cover it. I will email her and see if I can find out what helped her. I am so sorry you are sick like this. My heart goes out to you.

If you want to take a more homeopathic approach, try eating ginger enriched foods. For example, I lived off the Ginger Snap Cookies sold at the Dollar Store through the first trimester.

Also, "Preggie Pops" by Three Lollies are helpful for nausea, though I haven't tried them. I hear good reviews, but I didn't find out about them until I didn't need them.

I have read/heard a too empty or too full stomach makes morning sickness worse. Leave some crackers and water by the bed and try to eat them before getting out of bed (if you are lucky enough not to have to pee every twenty minutes). I ended up eating a cracker or two every time I got out of bed throughout the night along with drinking some water and that seemed to help throughout my pregnancy.

Good Luck! :) A.

I had morning noon and night sickness or 6 months. I know it is miserable but it will go away. Try ginger ale, Pickled Ginger, crackers, pretzels, water but don't drink with your meal, peppermints. At motherhood they have this lolli pops that are supposed to ease the sickness called preggie pops. I orget what they are called. I ound that carbonated drinks actually made it worse. The Dr prescibed me promethize also. But that didn't help the morning sickness. It just knocked me out.I would only take that right before bed.

Hi B.. My name is N.. I was sick thru my whole pregnancy. Morning, afternoon, night. You name it that was me. The smell of someones perfume, body odor, food would make me throw-up. So its normal. My daughter was fine. Beautiful weighing in at 8lbs even. That was three weeks early. I would eat something before I went to bed. If I got up in the middle of night. I would eat some crackers so that would curb the sickness first thing in the mornings. I would snack every lil bit during the day. So there was always something on my stomach. So it was never empty. And cinnamon gum, candy, mints. Also helps with sickness. Another pregnant friend told me. And it worked for me. With all that and the Promethazine. I would still be sick. But not as bad. Doing all that curved it a whole lot. I would just get sick every once in a while after that. Goodluck with everything. And Congrats.

With my last pregnancy I stayed sick the entire time. My doctor gave me Phenergan, which is wonderful. It stops nausea, but it makes you drowsy. I've also taken Zofran, it works within 15 minutes, but is expensive unless you have good insurance. Good Luck!

I was 23 as well when pregnant with my son. I didn't get morning sickness is my first trimester only the second two. It was to the point that I actually lost 15 pounds. The doctors weren't worried about the weight loss for me simply because I was already overweight and the baby was growing ok. Check with your OB Dr. I work in an ER and when the Dr's prescribe something it's a short term fix. Also the ER doesn't know you like you're Dr. knows you. Do not take anything without first consulting them. Morning sickness is usually only bad if it occurs non stop over a long period of time (several days).

I am the mother of 5. By the time I was pregnant w/ #4, I was using midwives, herbs, and natural remedies. I suffered from heartburn and indigestion w/ each pregnancy. I suffered from just drinking a glass of water. I discovered on my own a natural remedy that worked. Try a couple tablespoons of instant grits w/ a slice of american cheese. It was the only thing that ever worked for me and now is also working for my daughter on my first grandchild. I'm not sure why...could be the cheese difuses the acids and the grits is heavy enough to hold it down. It is natural and safe. Would be curious to know if it works for others as well. Good luck!
