I Need Some Ideas!

I live in an area where it gets extremly cold in the winter. Going outside to workout is not an option especially when I have to take my baby along with me. I am in a situation at the moment where getting a gym membership is out of the question - so I would like some ideas on what some good indoor workouts are. I do have some workout DVD's and I can always use those. Does anyone have some favorite workout DVD's or other escercises they do?

Thanks!

I went to school at USU so I know what you are talking about...BRRR. lol. I used to do Cindy Crawfords workout videos. I am looking to replace my VHS copies actually. lol.
I think the one I liked best was called the Challenge.
I was laughing thinking about walking through the mall in logan, you'd have to do lots of rounds hehe...I know it's grown some but we used to call the mall the corridor.
I think what the other poster was describing is callanetics. I had forgotten about that but had a friend in high school tone down 2 sizes doing them even though her weight didn't change much. They are just small movements but work everything out. I'm going to have to go dust off the book she gave me.

I really like hip-hop abs, and my baby likes the music that it has on it. Also, if you are close enough to a mall, taking baby and the stroller to the mall and just walking laps is a great way to get some exercise even if the weather is not so pleasant. I used to look sideways at the seniors who would go mall walking early in the morning, but it's actually a smart way to walk: safe, properly lit, equiped with bathrooms, and climate controlled. It would even be fun to invite some other moms to come walk with their stroller babes, too :)

Browse the library for workout DVDs. Get both aerobic stuff (kick-boxing, jazz/hiphop/dance, step, etc) and strength (pilates, yoga, ballet) so you can get well-rounded workouts. If you don't do both in one day, that's fine. Just switch off.
I like the library for 2 reasons. It's no risk. If you hate the video take it back - it was free anyway. And as you get used to a workout it becomes less effective, so you can have lots of choices to be changing things up!
Have fun with it. Be daring. In the privacy of your own home you could even try out bellydance (great for abs, hips, and butt!) hula (same) or whatever!

Do you have cable TV? If you do there is a channel called FIT TV, on Direct TV it is 261. I love it, and you don't have to waste money on DVDs. I usually do the Namaste Yoga. That is on at least 3 times a day, that is a really calm work out and very slimming. However they have tons of workouts; cardio, belly dancing, muscle building, and it is on 24 hours a day. They even have food type shows. It is great, I highly recommend it. I would bet they would have some type of exercise you would like. Sharon Mann is also nice, and All Star workouts, they do something different everyday. Check it out. :)

Hi L.! I am totally going to read your responses, I have this same question! I ordered Turbo Jam off an extremely annoying infomercial and as it turns out, I really like it. It comes with several DVDs and several work outs. The music is good. I used to get fitTV, but it is soooo destracting to have commercials breaking in all the time--but free. With LDS, I don't know how the cardio affects it, I'm sure you would know if it's right for you.

I think two of the best instructors for DVD workouts are Kathe and Jari Love. I really like Jari Love's Get Ripped 1000. It burns a ton of calories! I also like Kelly Coffey Meyer. Good Luck

i say good old crunches, push-ups, stretches, jumping jacks, and what ever form of exercise you enjoy. like I love martial arts, so I do a little of that. Videos are great, but arre cruches until we take it upon ourselves to just be creative and do what feels best for our body.

Get a Wii. They are a ton of fun and a great way to burn calories! Even the basic game it comes with has the boxing (my husband and I were sore for 2 days after we played it the first time), golf, etc... It's something that can get you and your husband moving.
We haven't been able to get the Wii Fit yet (they are super hard to find) but everyone that has one say's they are great too! My Mother-in-laws friend walks over 5 miles on it everyday.
Just a different idea.

I LOVE the biggest loser DVD's. I am a runner and run during the summer recently completing a half marathon but during the winter it is just not feasible. I like the Biggest Loser ones because they have different options to choose your own workout by making it easy or hard and also vary the length, which helps when you never know how much time you will have to work out. I also do the Billy Banks Tae Boe and like those as well.

I love Yoga!!! You can even go onto iTunes and get free yoga podcasts. I've looked at a couple, but I don't remember which ones they were. I'm pretty sure they have other videos too...and the best part: They're FREE!!! (I love podcasts for that reason.) You can preview them before you download them to see if you'll like them, and when you subscribe to them (if you want to) then you can constantly get the new 'episodes'. Even if you don't want to do yoga, maybe there will be enough to choose from that you can find something that you like. Have fun! :)

Also one idea, if you get DVD's, check out Amazon.com - they have a ton of stuff for REALLY good prices. You can usually buy them new or used for a lot less than anywhere else.

I don't know the title of them but there is a series of Pilates DVD you can rent them too from the library or even from Blockbuster I believe. It is full of awesome floor workout. You can go to Target and get a workout ball for like $9 and use that with the DVDs.
Now you make me feel bad as I need to get back on this bandwagon! :)

I like Jennifer Galardi's Hip Hop Dance Party. It's fun to do (once you figure out how to do the moves, lol!) and barely feels like exercise, but it really gets the heart pumping. I also like the 10-minute Solutions DVDs, because as a mom it can be easier to work out in small segments, and they have a large variety of workout types to choose from. I got mine at our local Wal-Mart.

Hands Down, The Turbo Jam series!

Also, look into www.slimbodycoach.com. I lost my weight doing that. It's an awesome lifestyle change program. I was Round 1 Winner in 2007.

Best wishes, D.

Ok bare with me because I'm not sure I can describe this lol. But I read in one of my magazines something I have been doing that is real great. While your doing dishes, or folding laundry or what not your normal chores. You can do things like leg exercises, such as going up and down ~from flat foot to toes exercising your calves. (like I said not good at describing lol) Or just lifting your legs out to the left, the right then back, front. You can also do arm exercises with your baby. Lay on the floor and lift her away from you then back to you... Or do the "airplane" thing, lay on the floor on your back and bend your knees put her between your knee and foot and go up and down :) I don't know if any of this has helped but just use your imagination and add little things into your daily routine. I live where its very cold too, and know where your coming from! Take Care, S. :)
