I got a Playtex Hip Hammock when my daughter got too big for the front carrier. I got it at walmart and loved it.

Love the ergo - easy to put on, a bit more expensive, but you can carry till they're 40-50 lbs in it. My son even fell asleep in it a few times, and there's a piece that snaps like a hood so when they do fall asleep, their heads don't flop.

I guess I'm just curious.... why don't you want a stroller? If you're just outside, try using a walker. If you are going on walks, a stroller is really what's going to be ideal. I guess I just use my outside time as a time for my son to explore on his own (under my supervision), but it's a break from him pestering me. There are way too many interesting things outside to see for him to be attached to me.

You might look at an Ergo- all my friends who have them adore them.

We loved the Kelty brand. We had the one with a stand so you can put the child in it and then put it on. It can cost a bit more.

I can't remember the brand that we had. But when you buy it make sure you get one that can stand on its own when you don't carry it (I don't know, maybe they all do). We used it often and when the little guy was asleep we were able to take it off and stand the entire thing somewhere without waking the baby up. Also, in a pinch you could use it like a baby chair for feedings, etc. which was very handy too (when we were camping, for example).
