Hi, my husbands family, including 80 year old parents, 50 year old sister and brother in-law, aunt, cousin and younger brother (35 y/o) are going to be staying with us over Thanksgiving. They are from PA and 2 of them have never been to Chicago. I am going to take the ladies to High Tea downtown one day, but am looking for another event that we can all go to. It does not have to be kid friendly, we can get a sitter. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I can't imagine anyone not liking the Museum of Science & Industry - you can bring the kids too. They have a wonderful interactive area for the little ones, and the relatives will surely enjoy the outing with them.

Another great place for the whole family is the Shedd Aquarium.

Lincoln Park or Garfield Park Conservatory are free, warm and beautiful. LP has a wonderful holiday train exhibt every year, but not sure what exact date it starts.

Hi--if it's just adults, there's a ton of really intersting theater in Chicago, not just downtown but out in the neighborhoods as well. Some weightier topics, but some light holiday fair as well, and usually with a restaurant nearby. www.chicagoplays.com lists just about all plays, and from there you can link to hottix to purchase 1/2 price tickets on-line.

Not sure where you live but what about taking the train into the city and looking at the Macys windows and maybe a little Christmas shopping. Then lunch at a themed restaurant, Ed Debevics (sp) or Hard Rock? Do the touristy thing with them.
Or maybe a trip to a casino? Theres Harrahs in Joliet, Grand Victoria in Elgin or Pottowotomi (sp) in Milwaukee.
Have Fun!

You can go to the Walnut Room at Macy's and see and eat under the huge tree and then look at the window displays. Going to see Wicked or Jerseyt Boys and then to dinner is fun. We just went to second city and it was a blast. Any of the museums would be great. You could be really touristy and do the bus tour. I've done them and they are fun. Good luck and have fun! Chicago is such an awesome city!

Hi S.,

We are from the "East coast" and have family out for all the different holidays. With it chilly out - I found my family likes to see the decorations and such downtown <windows at Macy's; 'tree'> we have found that Navy pier has alot to offer even in the cold - you get the 'fun' and the in or out for those that want to walk outside or inside. ALSO - they really enjoy the Hancock building <google sales/coupons!!> esp. at night and then we grab a hot meal and bundle up to go home!. Enjoy your holidays!
