hi, i have a child to that "had" severe GERD. we did all the medications, changed his diet completly. nothing worked either. but my son also has special needs he is unable to swallow correctly. i'm not usre if what he had is even an option but please for your son talk to his ped's doc. there is a sugery called a nissen fundo plycation(not sure the correct spelling). what this does is wrap the top part of the stomach. there is a lil flat called a spinkter(maybe wrong spelling). some children this can be stuck open or overly sensitive. in turn makes them vomit frequently. they can tighten the spinker flap, he will still be able to eat in his mouth but will be able to hold down his food. i know its sugery & very scary. but honestly its not all that bad. it was the best thing we ever did for our lil boy. he had his done at 7 mos old, hes now almost 3(4/27/04). if we hadnt done the sugery when we did our lil boy would not be here right now. each time he would vomit it would mostly fill his lungs with formula & stomach stuff. very gross. i dont know have u been to childrens hospital in boston? or where do u go. they tend to put off this kind of sugery for children with out special needs. this can be very painful b/c its an abdomin sugery. they do not cut across the stomach. they make 4 tiny insitions across the tummy below the belly button. they stich them up after & put liquid banadade on them. there was no excess bleeding for my cam. if you want me to explain anything else more in depth or need more info, a surgeon ect. i would be more then happ to give u any help with this. or just being here for support. please stay positive & brave. i know how hard it is to watch your child vomit all the time. hope this helps. luv always C.

I'm sorry to hear about all your son's problems, it sounds very stressful. Have you thought about trying a chiropractor. I see one on a regular basis and she has helped me with many aches and pains. My son, who is two goes every couple of months and has since he was born. I know some people think they are quacks but think about this. Everything your body does is controlled by your brain. Your brain sends signals down your spinal column and on to your nerves to the rest of your body. Those nerves pass between the vertibrae and if they are not aligned properly a nerve can be pinched and the signal distorted thus creating disfunction in parts of the body. If a misaligned spine and pinched nerve are not what's causing your son's problems then a chiropractor may not be able to help but it might be worth a try. Good luck!!

S.,

My son also has had a Nissen Fundoplicaton. This procedure is a stomach wrap. They wrap the top of the stomach around the esophagus and stitch it up. This created a squeezing when the stomach becomes too full, allowing no food or acid to be brought up the esophagus. It is a fairly short hospital say- probably 2-3 days. This surgery made an incredible improvement in my child's quality of life.
Have they tried a gastric emptying study to see if maybe your child is not emptying quickly enough? If he is emptying slowly and he is eating again, the stomach may be too full.
My son has MANY other serious medical issues. I know how difficult it can be to see your child so uncomfortable and be unable to help the way you want to. Hang in there.

have you had him tested for further food allergies yet? My son, 11, had a hard time with his asthma when he was 2 and 3 along with the milk and dairy allergy... we ended up really restricting his diet along with getting his asthma under better control. He's been fine for several years now. I wish you luck!

My 5 year old has asthma also and is allergic to everything put peanuts. We haven't found anything food related that makes her throw up. We do notice that when she is having a harder time breathing that she tends to throw up. Our doctor couldn't tell us a medical reason that causes it. He did tell us that if he was to take a guess it would be the strain on her stomach from her trying to breath and the low grade fever that she runs when her asthma is acting up.
