Is Something Going Around?

My 18 month old has been sick all week with what has been assumed to be a virus by his doctor. His only symptoms are loss of appetite and fatigue (absolutely no fever, cough, or runny nose). He did thow up once in the early stage of sickness, but it could have been helped along by fingers in his mouth (teething). We ended up taking him into the ER for an IV due to dehydration. He wakes up in the morning feeling pretty good . . . decent energy level and a little hungry, but as the day progresses, he gets worse and worse. This has been happening for a few days now, and we think his first syptoms started on Monday.

Is there something going around in your area? He has started cdc a few weeks ago, but no one there is sick. Have your children or you come down with a similar virus, and how long did it last?

What can I do next?

YES, there is something going around, in my city.

Kids and adults are getting sick.
Flu like symptoms.
Just like your baby has.

I also work at my kids' school, everyday, kids are going home sick. With that same bunch of symptoms.

Being your child is very young, you have to keep an eye out. Dehydration can occur again. Keep him hydrated. Little amounts of water at a time. Not all at one time.
Just eat as he feels like it.
Bland foods.

My friend had it for a whole week and missed work and took her another week to totally recover.

I had it too.
My son had it too.
My daughter too, but to a lesser degree.

Also look out for worsening symptoms in your child, and/or mucus coloration or Fever.

Per Flu "Facts": it has
F= Fever
A= aches
C= Chills
T= Tiredness
S= sudden onset
This is what differentiates it from a "cold."

Kids respond to common illness differently. With out the strong symptoms they probably cant say for sure whats going on and dub it a virus. My 3 just are getting over or have gotten better from strep. One took 3 days, the other 2 it took 5 days. One of them is still a bit lethargic and hasnt gotten his appetite back yet. He is sleeping a lot, but he is finishing his antibiotics today it may be a side effect of those.

No, nothing that I have heard of here. I do find that when something odd is going on medically with the kids keeping a log of their day, food, diapers (wet/bm), intake of food/meds/liquids, sleep patterns and mood changes helps.

my girls had something. one daughter was for 7 days straight range was 102-104.4, no cough, no vomit. my other daughter had fever for 4 days. both were very fatigued. My neighbor & her kids had it. Then my husband got it too. There have been several other people we know with it too, not everyone had fevers but mostly fatigue.
