Hello, I am a 27 yr old, first time mom and my 1 1/2 yr old has had diarrhea for about 4 days. Now she has formed a rash on her bottom that goes all the way up her backside and she can't sleep and does the little dog scoot because it itches. I feel so bad for her, I've tried butt paste, that didnt do anything. I sat her in lukewarm water, let her air dry, then putting lotrimin on her and that didnt do much. I don't know what else to do, so I tried comforting her until I just layed her in her crib so she could put herself to sleep. Please Help!

It could very well be a yeast infection from the extra damp conditions created when she was going thru the bout of diarrhea. Get her in to see the doc. They will probably prescribe something like Nystatin. My daughter had a couple as an infant that covered her bottom.
My thoughts too were that it might be a yeast rash since those are super itchy. She'll need a prescription for Nystatin to get this healed up.
try a bath with baking soda. let her air dry like you have been doing. lotrimin is not really going to help. did you try the triple paste? I would let her air dry then put some liquid maalox around her but and where ever the rash is let it dry then put on the triple paste on top of it. In the meanwhile give her a 1/2 teaspoon of childrens benedryll before she goes to bed. feed her some yogurt like the yo baby or activia which has the live cultures and is probiotic to help heal her from the inside out. no baby powder either since it will trap the moisture and make her more itchy.
Get it checked out. It may be yeast and that is sooooo uncomfortable and needs medication to be treated. Try giving her some yogurt, and oatmeal baths for the time being, but if it's yeast moisture and warmth will only make it worse, so as messy as it try to leave her diaper free as much as possible.
Try pure organic coconut oil!
I would still use the butt paste, or ask your pedi for "Happy Hinney" and over that use a baby powder with cornstarch. J. L
California Baby was the only rash cream that worked for my son..try that..u can get it at Wholefoods
Cortisone cream, over the counter- I think it's 1%- we've used on our little ones. Check with dr first.
Poor thing. I always had great luck with Aquaphor. However if it's a yeast infection you will need a prescription. Also, I'd get some probiotics for her to help w/ the loose poop. Hang in there... Oh and a little motrin may help her feel a bit less irriated in the mean time.
You must try Triple Paste. It is medicated and it will help (it is a bit pricey, but lasts a long time and worth it!).
Also make sure she is drinking A LOT of fluids and try Pedialyte too. Bananas are a great "binding" fruit so give her those as well.
If it is a yeast, nystatin works great (prescription). If it's not, try paladin. It's over the counter, but it's usually near the pharmacy. They should be able to help you find it. Worked great on my son when he had diarrhea. I felt like I had tried everything, and the nurse said try paladin.
Their is this oatmeal paste I cannot think of its name but it is suppose to soothe the rashe. They use it with kids who get poison oak etc also.
I'm concerned about diarrhea for 4 days. I think I would get an appt with the pediatrician to find out what is causing it and the rash.
It sounds like a yeast infection. My oldest daughter got one at about that age. Check with her dr - there's prescription creme for kids that young.
might be a yeast infection- you can use a over the counter medicine. My daughter had thrash and diaper rash that would not go away using desitine (?? sp). after a week I asked her dr he recommended a yeast infection cream (i forgot the name but the box was pink w/applicators- didn't use those) I was told to apply the cream at every diaper change. Started clearing up by Monday (p/u the medicine on a Friday)
Cornstarch baby powder.
My son just went through this. The poor guy. His butt itched like crazy. I kept trying ointments and creams...... Finally, I called my mom and she told me to try some powder. The itch went away overnight and he hasn't had it since.
Sometimes all of the ointment and creams continue to keep the itch alive. The drying power of the powder seems to help.
It's worth a shot.

I agree with Dori W. Go to the doc and get a prescription for Nystatin. It's a powder that clears up diaper rash/redness caused by yeast extremely fast. And since it's a powder, your DD won't be covered in stinky diaper rash cream.
