C.,

Glad you called OB and got an appointment - while waiting - CALL the dermo and tell them it's unbearable! Ask them what to do? If they continue to make you wait for the appointment (no idea how far it is out) get a new dermo.

It *does* sound like something pregnant women get, but I haven't had. A milk bath may help (Body shop or other store similar has this, or find a recipe online).

Sounds silly, but don't scratch.

Are you drinking enough water?

Baby calls, hope this helps,
M.

My first response when I read your posting was PUPPS. I had it with my pregnancy for my little girl. It was my OB/GYN that diagnosed me, but going to the dermatologist may be a good idea. The good news if it is PUPPS, is that it may drive you crazy - but it is totally harmless to you and the baby. To relieve the itching, I did a lot of Aveeno baths, ice packs, and used Sarna cream (which was like a miracle). I was a lot further along when I developed the rash, so you should definitely ask your doctor about the Sarna. Good luck!

Check for pictures on the web for something called PUPS. See if this resembles your rash at all. I had this rash when I was pregnant. Don't know if that is what you have but mine also started on my belly and then traveled eveywhere on my body except my hands, feet and face. I also had to see a dermatologist and had to end up taking a steroid and using a topical steroid cream to stop the intense itching.

I had it with my first preganancy. It is called PUPS. Your body is basically having a allergic reaction to your pregnancy. This is no harm to you or your child and it will go away as soon as you give birth. Try to take oatmeal baths and rub lotion on your belly. The dermatologist I went to happened to write papers and do research specifically on this PUP rash. It is very annoying and itchy....but the good news is if you decide to have another child, you will not have the rash again. It is a one-time deal. Good luck!

Go to your primary care doctor. If nothing else they should be able to tell you what to try to get some relief. Just be sure to remind them you are 23 weeks pregnant. You may be waiting weeks for a dermitologist and if your dr. says you need to see a derm. right away then have them call and get you an appointment. Ali

It sounds like PUPPPS - it is a very fine, very itchy rash of pregnancy (though it is early for you to develop it - it usually doesn't start until 3rd trimester). Supposedly it happens frequently when you are expecting a boy - something about the male DNA irritating your skin. Anyway, if you do some research online, don't let it scare you (some ppl have it so bad and only delivery will relieve it) - I had it for about 3 weeks and then it went away with my first son. With my second son, I actually got it after he was born.

I found Aveeno Oatmeal baths helped - there are also a bunch of different suggestions that you'll find online - I think I may have tried taking fish oil? The rash is harmless to baby and mom, just annoying as it is very itchy! My ob recognized it right away and basically said it is harmless. Hang in there - hopefully it will go away sooner rather than later!

Sounds like yeast to me. Had that happen to me.
You can get some creams to put on from your pharmacy.
There are some that do not require prescriptions.
Others do. Good luck.

Hi C.,
First let me say, I'm not a Dr. but it sounds like heat rash. It's been hot in our area lately. In any case, the Aveeno bath stuff is good if your doctor approves. Good luck.

Bi C.,
I think an appointment with your OB to rule out PUPPS would be a good idea, and if that's not what it is, to see a dermatologist ASAP so that you can find out what it is and get some relief.
Good luck!

Hi C.

My daughter had a rash that started on her belly & than continued to spread all over last year when she was pregnant-her obgyn called it "PUPS" disease. She tried everything within reason, it continued to be very itchy.

Good Luck

Have you had chicken pox? It MIGHT be shingles. But it also could be eczema. You should see a dermatologist.

I had this when I was pregnant too. I think it started around 28 or 30 weeks. My OB-GYN did some tests to rule out anything serious but just said it's one of those weird pregnancy things that happens because of hormones. The itching it terrible, right? A friend of mine that was pregnant at the same time I was had the same thing. I found that the Palmers oil helped. I tried several creams and lotions but the oil was the best. I also liked Aveno lotion. They make one for itchy skin and it's soothing. Nothing made it go away though...except giving birth! I would have your OB-GYN and a dermo check you out but it's probably nothing to worry about.
