I didn't know if anyone had some advice I hadn't heard of I've basically had a cold since Christmas. I had a cold then got another one then got the flu (I did have a flu shot) then got another cold. back to back to back to back. I'm so sick of being sick. And I just found out I'm pregnant so I was wondering if anyone knew of something that could help!

What can I do next?

1000 mg vitamin C and 50 mg Zinc for several days. Vitamin C will help symptoms and Zinc will boost immune system. The extra folic acid in prenatal vitamins blocks the absorption of zinc in your diet so extra zinc will help a lot. Every time you feel one coming on take again for a couple days.

Hi L.,

I know a great naturopath in Golden. She has been trained the same as a doctor (4 years of grad studies and completed an internship, etc.) and is very knowledgeable. What I like about using a Naturopath vs. an MD is that the Naturopath is looking at a wholistic pitcute while the MD tends to treat symptoms. Her contact info is:

All of the responses you have recieved thus far offer much good advise except for one thing. Herbs and other natural supplements are often not advised for those who are pregnant and/or nursing. Please be careful and consult a knowlegable practitioner who deals in nutritional health. Another good source of immune building as strange as it may sound is Chiropractic care. There is much medical research that shows an adjustment to the spine in the middle of the back and upper neck area will stimulate your immune system making your body stronger and easier for it to fight infection. This is a great solution when taking medications or herbal supplements are not a great choice.

I agree that some supplements can be harmful and some are placebos. Eating good food and making sure you aren't medicating your self at this time is important. I have found a company that deals in food grade herbs. These are fruits, veggies and herbs from around the world that are as safe for you and your baby just like carrots and broccoli(I ate it throughout my two best pregnancies)I love this company and would love to help you feed your body so that it can work the way it's supposed to. Your immune system could use some good food to help it out. contact me and we'll see if I can help you!

Hi L.,
When you leave your house open your windows and air it out. Even if you live in a cold climate. In the winter all of the germs just hibernate in our houses! And of course wash your hands, and your baby's hands the minute you walk in from being anywhere. Try to get as much sleep as you can, when your husband is home. Good Luck H. G

Hi L.,
I'm not sure if this info I'm passing onto you will address your continuing battle with colds, but overall wellness for baby-in-the-making and mama, go hand in hand.
If you go to this link: http://www.30daysofshaklee.com and click on "Health Issues", there's some really good recordings on care of baby from the inside. They are down near the bottom of the listed recordings.
If, you have any questions about this, feel free to email me. Also, my website which has additional info is: www.sowing4health.com

Additional info: Just got this explanation of some products from my upline:
Greetings Shaklee Family!

This has been one of one of the worst winters in recent years for cold and flu viruses. There's certainly something you can do about it for yourself and your family, and that is to take the Shaklee nutritional supplements that will boost and strengthen your immune system.

Protein- provides the foundation building blocks for everything your body builds from new skin cells, muscle cells, bone cells, and cells that strengthen your immune system.

Vitalizer- the daily vita strips that provide your body with 80 bio-optimized nutrients. Vitalizer and Protein provide a complete foundation for a healthy immune system.

Nutiferon- this is the immune system supplement. Your body needs all the amino acids that protein provides. Your body needs all the essential vitamins and minerals in adequate amounts for good health. BUT-- none of these nutrients, or food for that matter, provides what Nutriferon does for your body which is to provide natural Interferon Boosters that help make your immune system that much stronger. Shaklee Nutriferon formula is exclusive to Shaklee and no other company on the planet has the special immune system formula.

Shaklee DR- sometimes in spite of your best efforts, you still might feel the first indications of that bug coming on. That's the time to grab your bottle of Shaklee DR (Defend and Resist) and take 2 tablets 3 times a day for a week to 10 days-- like you would take an anti-biotic for example. This is a temporary use supplement that you use to help your body get over a cold or flu bug faster.

Vita C- not much needs to be said about taking extra Vitamin C, especially during the cold and flu season. Everyone knows about the benefits of taking extra Vitamin C.

Stress weakens your immune system which is why B Complex and Stress Relief Complex (the stress busters) are featured with extra sale discounts.

I got sick of being sick too, I worked at a very public place where we all shared phones and dealt with lots of customers, I was sick every 2 weeks for months.
I was taking cold meds so that I could keep going to work, it would turn into bronchitis and I even got pneumonia, I had strep a couple times. I was constantly on antibiotics and cold meds and it wasn’t getting any better.

I finally decided to just try something different. I learned a little about our PH, that our bodies are Alkaline and Colds and infection can only thrive in Acid. So I quit taking any meds (even Advil) so my immune system could have a chance to do the work instead of the meds. And I started drinking baking soda and water daily. I was making my own home made chicken soup with jalapenos (for congestion) , celery, tons of garlic, fresh parsley, carrots, onions, just tons of veggies, ate that and drank a natural antibiotic called (forgive the spelling) Pa-de-Arco Tea. My colds immediately slowed down to 2 times a year, to once a year, and I can say now that I haven’t had a cold since October of 2006. That’s over a year (knock on wood). I like the book PH miracle, and natural healing books by Edgar Casey.
That’s just what I did, and I happen to have not had a cold in over a year. I don't know if its coincidence or actual cause and effect.
Good luck finding what works for you.

Echinacea or goldenseal are very good supplements to take to help build your immune system, along with vitamin C and zinc. Garlic is also thought to help out. Lots of fruits and veggies are alos very important.

Hi L.,
It sounds like you're immune system needs some help. I've strengthened mine (and my family's) by using Isagenix and cleaning up our dirty eating habits. Isagenix is superfood that is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers as well as children and husbands. Cleaning up our dirty eating habits for us meant limiting our white flour to a few select items, removing white sugar from our house, and getting rid of all unhealthy fats from our food. When you do that, there's really only healthy options left and when you make those healthy choices you're building a healthy immune system, digestive tract, and feeding you and your new baby less empty calories and more nutrients. I do personally believe however, that there is no way our stomachs can hold enough food to actually give us the proper proportion of nutrients we need so I use Isagenix for it's pure nutrition (free of antibiotics, pesticides, hormones, herbicides, and pretty much anything that can hurt you) and it's awesome live enzyme delivery system. If you want to know more contact me through my profile.
Hope I could be of help,
A.
