Kids and the Chiropractor

After visiting several chiropractors on my insurance list and hating every single one I finally found one that I like and is acutally helping me rather than making me feel as if my time was wasted. Unfortunately that also means that he is not on my insurance and I am paying out of pocket for my care. My husband and I both go and we are enjoying it a lot so we decided to have our kids evaluated as well. Family evaluations are no cost since we are both on a contract so they get the initial consult at no cost. They are in sports and cheerleading so I figured this would be great for preventative care. But I have no clue what to expect from the viists. If you have taken your kids to the chiropractor I have a few questions: Why did you initally go see a chiropractor? And has it helped? Do you have a maintenance schedule for your kids? How do they like it (scared, excited)? Do they say it hurts at all? Do you pay out of pocket (and if you don't mind - how much do you pay?) or does your insurance cover it? Before I start this with my kids and pay more out of pocket.

What can I do next?

I started taking my son when he was a little over a year old he had very, very minor torticolis. He absolutely hated every minute of it, he just didn't like a stranger messing with him. He started going a few times a week & as he started having positive results , his treatments were more spaced out. He went for a few months , then he was released & go as needed but it worked wonders & he hasn't had any more problems.

My insurance only covers a few visits a year and does not cover my daughter. I think it is worth the cost of paying since we are rarely at the regular doctor and never need antibiotics or other meds.

My daughter has been going since birth for well visits and she is the healthiest kid I know (yes she gets sick, but it doesn't last long). I have been going since I was 17 (almost 42) and it helps keep me healthy and is a big help with my lower back problems.

Adjustments should not hurt. Keeping the spine aligned keeps all the brains signals going to where they are supposed to and then the body functions properly. Since your kids are in sports they will really benefit from getting adjustments.

I have taken my kids since birth and they love going! They say they are getting "fixed"! I think it helps them maintian a healthy immune system and with all of the falls and crashes that go along with growing up. We go once every 2-3 weeks unless someone gets sick or hurt. If we have a major expense we may put it off for a month ... We do go to an out of network doctor and pay $45/visit per person.

I started taking my children after I started care myself. My kids have been going for about 5 years now and love going! They go every 3 months or so now. They both participate in sports and it helps a lot. It has helped my kids through some nasty falls, sports, sore necks, ear infections, etc! We also go to an out of network doctor, so our insurance doesn't cover it either. I would recommend asking your chiro if they have a "cash" plan or a family plan.

My son has been twice. Both times is when he was roughhousing and jammed is shoulder/ neck. Dr. fixed him right up within minutes. DIdn't do a maintainance plan, just a 'come back if you have more problems'. He hasn't needed to go except those two times, about 6m apart.

went to an in-network dr. and paid the in-network copay.

I have taken my boys on an as needed basis. My chiropractor does not subscribe to the belief that you should come in routinely. He has helped me recover from surgeries and car accidents. We have a $30 copay that covers the adjustment as well as a one hour massage with United Healthcare.
He is awesome and is in Plano if you are interested.

I've been taking my kids since birth! It's important to keep especially a growing spine aligned, to keep the nervous system at a high functioning level. My kids love it and all other kids I know who go do also! Doesn't hurt I've never heard any kid say that. My Chiro does kids for free usually or just what insurance pays. Or a family plan for the month. They go about once a month now, more when sick.

My son is five and has been going since he was a few months old. He LOOOVES going and his new school is right next door to our chiros office (BONUS!)

Our insurance covers the first 15 appointments and that is more than enough for the year.

Our son would BEG to go get adjusted. He giggles when he gets adjusted and climbs up on the table like it's an amusement park ride. Going to the chiro ranks as high as going to Chuck E Cheese for him. He's an odd little monkey!

I have taken my son's for about 3 years now. They are active boys and they get out of alignment easy. I don't have a schedule for them I just have them done every once in a while or if something is wrong. If they are having issues with asthma or allergy I take them in. My youngest is a power tumbler so he throws himself out regularly. It's very good for them and boosts their immune system. I have gone to them since I was a kid and then as an adult off and on for different things. But now I go every few months unless my back acts up. My have herniated disc's in my lower back so for me it will be an ongoing thing. I don't want surgery I am too young and some drs think it's not bad enough. Mine charges me for the kids but one what their age is. Different drs do different things.
